I love how Leon looks like a badass compared to Resident Evil 2.

And Link is weilds the triforce of courage and is proclaimed "Hero of Time." Besides this is a personal choice list. I don't ride anyones ass about their choices so don't ride me about mine.
No man Im not riding your choices. I think they were good choices just asking a question about the numbering is all. If it were me I would have changed the numbering is all. But it's not me it's you. Good picks. It was other people who said Link shouldn't be there at all. It's all about personal choice. If thats how you feel cool. Im not going to disagree with you.

The Last Ninja

One of the only games I remember from Commodore 64. The main character kicks ass. The new release was supposed to come out in 2004. It's been cancelled and renewed like 3 times since then. It's too bad because it looked like a good game at the time. This was a screen shot from it.

1. Agent 47
47 is a genetically enhanced clone, the culmination of more than thirty years of research into human cloning and genetic augmentation, created by a cabal of criminal masterminds in an attempt to create the perfect soldier.

In the 1950s, five criminal masterminds, hiding from the authorities, found themselves quite coincidentally in the same unit of the French Foreign Legion. These five men, led by a brilliant but unethical and disgraced scientist named Dr. Ort-Meyer, formed a pact to use their resources to create a genetically engineered super soldier who would bring them unimaginable power. After their stint in the Foreign Legion was finished, four of the men returned to their home countries and founded vast criminal empires, from which they diverted funding to Dr. Ort-Meyer in order to continue his research. In exchange for the funds, Ort-Meyer also provided these criminals with donor organs harvested from clone bodies, with which they significantly extended their longevity. (By the events of Hitman: Codename 47, the "five fathers" were well into their 70s, but appear to be in their mid 40s or 50s.)

47's "Five Fathers," the men whose DNA went into his creation, were:

Dr. Otto Ort-Meyer: A discredited Eastern European scientist whose radical theories were significantly ahead of his time, Ort-Meyer believed that genetic recombination and human cloning could be used to produce a perfected version of humanity, possessing superior physical abilities and unburdened by moral scruples or the nagging voice of a conscience. His ultimate goal (unbeknownst to his partners), was to create an army of unbeatable and unquestioningly obedient supermen with which to conquer and repopulate the world.
Lee Hong: A Chinese crime lord, he eventually rose to become the head of the Red Dragon triad and the most powerful criminal in Hong Kong. 47 inherited Lee Hong's speed: Even in his advanced age, Lee Hong proved extremely spry and dexterous with a sword.
Pablo Belisario Ochoa: A Latin American drug dealer, Pablo formed his own drug cartel by violently eliminating his rivals, but his methods earned him great animosity and he was eventually forced to flee to a secret compound deep within the Colombian rainforest. 47 inherited Pablo's stamina and durability: Pablo was able to survive and continue fighting even after being shot a couple dozen times in the chest with an assault rifle (although this feat could partially be attributed to the large quantity of cocaine he had consumed moments earlier). Pablo was also very much inspired by Tony Montana in De Palma's "Scarface".
Franz Fuchs: A former member of the Hitler Youth, Franz always resented the collapse of Fascism. He developed a career as a professional terrorist-for-hire, organizing attacks such as the attempted chemical bombing of the G7 leadership. 47 inherited Fuchs' devious and creative intellect.
Arkadij "Boris" Jegorov: A staunch anti-Communist, Boris became a world-wide arms dealer who smuggled weaponry for his older brother; Russian mafia boss Sergei Zavorotko, and even trafficking in nuclear weapons. 47 inherited Boris' keen senses: Boris was able to detect 47's presence from several rooms away.
From a secret laboratory beneath his privately-owned asylum in Romania, Ort-Meyer spent thirty years combining and manipulating DNA taken from each of the five conspirators in an attempt to create life. Free from any moral or ethical boundaries, Ort-Meyer's research produced many failed attempts and aborted monstrosities, but ultimately several successful genetically augmented clones were created. 47 was one of several clones in Ort-Meyer's 4th series, possessing a 47th chromosome, which, combined with his exceptional criminal lineage, endowed him with levels of strength, speed, stamina, and intelligence significantly above the human norm.

Training
Born on September 5, 1964, and tagged with the identity 640509-040147 (the barcode ID tattooed on the back of his head), 47 was "raised" with the other "Series IV" clones by the asylum's staff. From the very beginning, Dr. Ort-Meyer identified 47 as his most promising creation. While maturing, 47 was quiet and showed little social behavior, his only display of affection being towards a runaway laboratory rabbit he adopted (much to Ort-Meyer's displeasure). 47 also had a fairly negative relationship with the asylum staff, due to the regular medical checkups and frequent painful injections. It is documented that 47 stabbed a doctor with several needles, prompting Ort-Meyer to double the guards assigned to him.

Along with the other clones, 47 was trained from youth to be a tool. Instructed in the use of firearms, military hardware, and the many tools of assassination. During his training, 47 was noted for his exceptional marksmanship, as well as for attacking the asylum staff with homemade slingshots.

After 30 years of relentless training under the tutelage of Dr. Ort-Meyer, 47 eventually found a gap in the asylum's security. Killing a security guard and disguising himself in the guard's uniform, 47 managed to escape from the asylum. Unbeknownst to him, 47's escape was deliberately orchestrated by Ort-Meyer himself in order to see how 47 would perform in the outside world.

2.Leon Kennedy
A man with a strong sense of justice and the duty to protect the weak, Leon, at the age of 21, was assigned to work for the Raccoon Police Department (R.P.D.) in their Select Police Force (S.P.F.) division after graduating from the police academy. He arrived at Raccoon City on September 29, 1998, a few days later than he was scheduled to, due to a breakup with his girlfriend at the time.

3. Mario
Mario is a plumber motivated by a sense of justice, though at times he has been depicted as a doctor. His distinctive appearance was defined somewhat by the limitations of early video game hardware. Though he began with the ability to jump high, in subsequent games, he received additional powers such as pyrokinesis and flight, and additional playable versions, including Baby Mario, Raccoon Mario and Metal Mario, through the use of power-ups. In adventure games, Mario has used varying techniques for defeating enemies and solving puzzles in his games, both by using his own abilities and the properties of items or abilities of allies he encountered.

The character has also appeared in mass media, and has spawned a line of licensed merchandise. He has also had a number of cameo appearances in other video games, and his likeness has been licensed to software publishers for educational titles. Fans have also created a number of unauthorized works depicting Mario.

4. Dante
Dante's past is fragmented, and broken down among the games in the DMC series. In the early age of humans, they worshipped evil and darkness. Humans became demonically possessed, and labored to create a demonic tower to link themselves to the unholy Demon World. This tower was called Temen-Ni-Gru. One devil, named Sparda, was against this. Sparda fought a valiant one-man war against the forces of the unholy realm, and the demons known as 'gatekeepers'. These gatekeepers were, in order, Cerberus, Agni & Rudra, Nevan and Beowulf. Beowulf also holds a violent grudge against Sparda, for his left eye was taken in the battle. Sparda also defeated Mundus' servants Phantom and Griffon, and also the demon king Argosax the Chaos. Upon defeating Mundus, the Emperor of Demons, he traveled to the depths of Temen-Ni-Gru and let his blood flow along with a human priestess and sealed himself and the Demon World away. The Force Edge is the very sword he used to save the human world. Before his sacrifice, he sires the twins, Dante and Vergil. Afterwards, Dante and Vergil split at one point (though they meet again in DMC3 as enemies). They were apparently close during childhood, as fragments of DMC3 reflect this. Eva is murdered at some point by demons, most likely in Dante's and Vergil's late childhood. This in turn contributes to Dante's decision to make devil hunting his life's work.

5. Master Chief
Spartan-117 (alternatively known by his rank, Master Chief or John-117; to the Covenant, as the Demon) is a fictional character featured in the video games Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2, and the novels Halo: The Fall of Reach, Halo: The Flood, and Halo: First Strike.

Although his official military designation is SPARTAN-117, he is most often referred to simply as the "Master Chief" or "Chief", short for his rank of Master Chief Petty Officer. The traditional rank of Master Chief is a purely administrative position, but the protagonist of Halo is more like an action hero.

The Master Chief is a Spartan II Super Soldier, a genetically and cybernetically augmented warrior designed to put down rebels and insurgents within the United Nations Space Command. When the powerful alien empire known as the Covenant attacked, the Master Chief and the other Spartan II's had a priority shift. Extensive surgical alteration coupled with a ruthless lifelong training regimen has resulted in Master Chief being significantly stronger than even the strongest natural human, and his strength and fighting ability are further augmented by the advanced MJOLNIR power armor he wears.

According to Bungie Studios, The Master Chief stands 7' tall and weighs approximately 1,000 pounds in full battle armor. He is approximately forty-one years old at the time of the events of Halo: Combat Evolved (2552). Between Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2, the Chief's armor is upgraded from MJOLNIR Mark V to Mark VI. Both iterations of the armor include a helmet with reflective visor so the face of the Chief is never seen: in spite he is seen removing his helmet once in each game, the camera view always conceals the Master Chief's face from the viewers. Master Chief is voiced by Steve Downes in both Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2.

5. Link
Link is the protagonist of Nintendo’s Legend of Zelda video game series. He was created by Shigeru Miyamoto, and first appeared in the 1986 game The Legend of Zelda. Introduced as a generic sword-fighting hero, the character was typical of fantasy-adventure games. However, later Legend of Zelda titles revealed significantly more details about him. The game’s success—over 6.5 million copies sold worldwide[1]—and that of its numerous sequels made Link one of Nintendo’s best-known characters. Link is named for the “link” the player shares with the hero of each game[2], and in every game, the player can name the character according to his or her wishes.

6. Cloud
Cloud Strife (クラウド・ストライフ, Kuraudo Sutoraifu?) is the main protagonist in Squaresoft's (now known as Square Enix) role playing game Final Fantasy VII. His appearance is marked by spiky blonde hair, vivid blue eyes with a glow (a mark of SOLDIER and a sign of having been exposed to mako), dark purple or blue clothing, and his Buster Sword (a zweihänder-style sword with a distinctive, oversized blade). The Buster Sword more closely resembles a Full Blade sword. He possesses a combination of Thanatos drive and avoidant personality disorder.

He has reappeared in many other Square-Enix games as well, including Final Fantasy Tactics, Ehrgeiz, Kingdom Hearts and its sequels Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories and Kingdom Hearts II, Itadaki Street Special, and as a secret racer in Chocobo Racing. He reappears in a CGI movie sequel, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, Last Order: Final Fantasy VII and other spin-offs in the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII. In addition, a 2D sprite of Cloud occasionally makes an appearance on the loading screen of the PlayStation version of Final Fantasy V. Cloud's Japanese voice actor is Takahiro Sakurai, and his English voice actor is Steve Burton.

7. Sam Fisher
Sam Fisher is a veteran of the CIA Directorate of Operations and of U.S. Navy SEAL Team 3. He is 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighs 170 pounds (77 kg), usually has a rough-shave, and has black hair and green eyes. He is an operative of Third Echelon, a clandestine division of the National Security Agency. Fisher is extremely agile and an expert in the art of stealth. Fisher was the first person to be recruited as a field operative, of the "Splinter Cell" program for Third Echelon. He works alone in the field -- in espionage parlance, he is a singleton. Fisher resides in a townhouse in Towson, Maryland when not on the job.

8. Big Boss/Naked Snake
Big Boss was originally a loyal and faithful soldier, but after Operation Snake Eater, in which he was ordered to kill his old mentor The Boss, who was actually working undercover for the United States government at that time, he realized for himself that even the finest of soldiers are ultimately nothing but the disposable tools in the hands of politicians. While founding and leading the new FOXHOUND unit for the US government, he secretly established Outer Heaven in order to create a nation where today's soldiers could be honored (and employed) as the traditional warriors of old, rather than becoming the mere pawns of The Patriots.

9.Samus Aran
Samus was the daughter of two colonists (sometimes known as Rodney and Virginia Aran) on the Galactic Federation colony world K-2L. When she was 3 years old, the species known only as the Space Pirates, led by Ridley, destroyed the colony, leaving Samus (with her pet, Ponchi)[citation needed] as the sole survivor. A pair of Chozo (Old Bird and Grey Voice) picked up the distress signal from the colony, and took Samus with them to their home on planet Zebes. They selflessly raised and loved her as their own, infusing her with their blood for her to gain their natural powers and resistance to the planet’s environments. In Metroid: Zero Mission, Samus has flashbacks to her childhood with the Chozo when she sees a mural depicting a Chozo warrior, and also as a sequence of pictures in a connectivity bonus between Metroid Fusion and Metroid: Zero Mission.

Eventually, she had left Zebes of her own accord with the Power Suit, seeking full military training in the Galactic Federation. However, her military career didn’t last after the death of her commanding officer, Adam Malkovich, and she soon left to become a bounty hunter(although not a greedy or vicous one). As she sought to make a name for herself, the Space Pirates attacked Zebes seeking more information about the Metroids they had recently taken from Federation custody, captured and reprogrammed the planetary control, Mother Brain, and killed the entire Chozo population from the planet.

Samus heard of this and was sent in by the Federation as a last resort to finish off the Pirates and stop their production of Metroids. Samus succeeded, but as she escaped the time bomb detonated by the Mother Brain in her final throes, she was shot down by a fleet of Pirates led by their rebuilt general, a robotic version of Ridley known as Mecha Ridley. In the struggle she lost her Power Suit and was forced to fight her way to her old home in Chozodia. There, Samus was tested by an ancient Chozo shrine, and given the type II suit upgrade with the recognizable shoulder pads. She then defeated Mecha Ridley and escaped the Pirates’ Mothership using one of their small fighters.

10. Sora
Sora (ソラ, Sora?) is the protagonist of the Kingdom Hearts series. He is an upbeat teenager who may seem simple minded and naïve at times. He possesses a strong sense of justice and an unwavering heart. At times, he is impulsive and quick to anger, but he is always sincere about what he says and does. He comes from Destiny Islands and is close friends with Riku and Kairi. Sora is derived from the Japanese word for sky (空, sora?), in comparison with sea (海, kai?, when conjugated) and land (陸, riku?)

Parasite Eve was one messed up crazy game. I loved it though.

It was almost like a creepier version of Silent Hill, only weirder and more graphic. God that game made me uncomfortable at night.

You know, Link is a great videogame character, one of the best, but he is in no way "bad ass" as you put it.

He's a little boy, in a skirt, who runs around with fairies and often times has borderline sexual encounters with strange men.

01) Master Chief
02) Gordon Freeman (A scientist who kills platoons of soldiers by himself, yeah, he's making my list.)
03) Darth Revan/Bastila Shan
04) Agent 47
05) Lara Croft
06) Sam "Serious" Stone
07) Riddick (lol, he counts *****)
08) Samus
09) JC Denton
10) Sam Fisher

Dude! He's the friggin' Chosen One of Hyrule! The Hero of Time! Sure, when he's a little kid he's not much of a bad ass but when he grows up he becomes the sword swinging, Moblin slaying, treasure stealing, brooding vagabond that’s he’s always been destined to be.

Gordon Freeman LOL
I never understood why people thought Gordon Freeman could kill Master Chief.

Without armor, Gordon is a wimpy scientist, and Master Chief is Captain America with metal bones.

With armor, Gordon has no helmet, and Master Chief has recharging shields.

Gordon drives a hovercraft and a go-kart. Master Chief drives a Warthog and an Army Tank.

There's more things I could bring up and compare, but that should really be enough.

It actually is funny, and that's why when I play Half-Life or Half-Life 2 it's kind of strange. Max Payne deserves an honorable mention though. I'm sure I'm forgetting more characters. :(

Certainly :(

Fall of Max Payne was sad :(

The ending song just sealed the game as a classic, tragic lovestory imo
