just curious to see what you guys thought...heres mine

5.Hugo Weaving in V for Vendetta

He did such an amazing job and his performance is very unappreciated. He wore a mask the enitre movie, and had one expression, yet, I could see him pissed when he was angry, happy, sad, ashamed, whatever the script called for, Hugo did.

4.Robert DeNiro in Taxi Driver:

I felt bad for the character. He saw the world in a demeneted view, but throughout the movie, I could to. The performance made me love Travis Bickle.

3.Christian Bale in American Psycho

First off, AMAZING actor. Each line he delivered was incredible. Every glare he made at someone, or look of disgust, I bought it. Bale really was the character. Even though its unfair to call out just one of his many fantastic performances as his best, imho...this was.

2.Robin Williams in One Hour Photo

Robin really can do anything. He's a comic genious and can pull off serious roles. He proved that in his role in OHP. I felt soooo sorry for his character, and at the same time, I knew what he was doing was a little wrong. Amazing, underrated performance.

1.Kevin Spacey in American Beauty

I know alot people hate this movie, or think its overrated. This ismy favorite movie, and half the reason is kevin Spacey's role. He's an honest, lonley man, whos in a marriage he HATES. He's so depressed, and he keeps going. He falls in love with his daughters friend and actually tries to impressher. Greatest end speech of all time as well in the end. It shows all the crap in his life and he talk about hows hes going and hes happy...beautiful movie. Brilliant performance.

this thread would be better if you gave us an actor and we told you what performance they were stellar in

Least the ones I picked, they were steller in just about everything they did.

Mmmmmmmm,

Off the top of my head ..........

Walken ... The Deer Hunter.
Ben Kingsley ... Sexy Beast.
Natalie Portman ... Leon
Connery ... The Untouchables.
Hopkins ... Silence of the lambs.

But there are thousands more I could probably think of .... very tough question.

Jim Caviezel as Jesus in The Passion of the Christ (The most demanding performance ever put on film inflicting one severe injury and illness after another physically, having to learn new languages, going through many hours of full body prosthetics regularly, and calling for a very palpable depiction of not only the worst physical pain ever endured, but also emotional).

Naomi Watts as Ann Darrow in King Kong (Perfectly expressing everything from immense terror, to slow-building understanding, to love and unbearable heartbreak, even with nothing to work with but a blank green screen, a fake ape hand, and a guy in a suit pretending to be a giant simian, carrying so much of the weight of the film that she turned what could've been a generic monster into the most moving relationship ever between two characters in a film).

Anthony Hopkins in the Hannibal Lecter trilogy (Playing the part somewhat differently depending on who he interacts with in each film. Being passionate but still unflinchingly calm at the same time, going from animalistic one second to layed back sophistication the next).

Mel Gibson as William Wallace in Braveheart (Showing a wide range of emotions from fiery and passionate, to gentle, to savage, to droken down inside, knowing when to play scenes with a certain level of subtlety while getting the emotion across where other actors would've been overly bombastic).

Monica Bellucci in Malena (Even with almost no dialogue, completely making me experience the longing, discomfort, and sorrow of her character almost entirely through her eyes and her mannerisms, with only one opportunity throughout the film to display an outburst of emotion toward the end, where she powerfully let out everything that I felt the character keeping inside).

Honorable mention to Ivana Baquero, for being that young yet still being able to so brilliantly pull me into the world of her character in Pan's Labyrinth and making me feel as awe inspired by it as Ofelia was.

Robert De Niro as Travis Bickle
Leonardo DiCaprio as Billy Costigan
Phillip Seymour Hoffman as Truman Capote
Liam Neeson as Oskar Schindler
Martin Landau as Bela Lugosi

Christopher Reeve as Superman
George C. Scott as Patton
Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch
Gary Cooper as Marshall Kane
Marlon Brando as Don Corleone
Jack Nicholson as RP McMurphy and Billy Buddusky (Last Detail)
Gene Hackman as Harry Caul

and

Robert Duvall as Col. Kilgore, one of the most memorable characters in movie history.

1) Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch in "To Kill a Mockingbird" (my fave movie)
2) James Caviezel as Jesus in "The Passion of the Christ"
3) Charlton Heston as Moses in "The Ten Commandments"/ and as Ben-Hur in "Ben-Hur"
4) Forest Whitaker as Idi Amin in "The Last King of Scotland"
5) Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal in "The Silence of the Lambs"
6) Patrick Stewart as Professor Xavier in "X-Men/X2"
7) Ian McKellen as Magneto in "X-Men/X2"
8) Christopher Reeve as Superman in "Superman" and "Superman II"
9) Al Pacino as Michael Corleone in "The Godfather" and "The Godfather Part II"
10) Ivana Baquero as Ofelia in "Pan's Labyrinth"
