Really hard to narrow it down to five. But I did it. Also with honorable mentions.
5. "My God!" -
Batman: Mask of the Phantasm
This scene, when Bruce has no other choice in life but to become Batman, the moment where he finally does it is spine chilling and deeply saddening.
4. "What are you waiting for? The Signal!" -
Batman Returns.
The Bat Signal flashing on in Bruce Wayne's study, showing us that he does nothing with his life except wait to serve his city is a powerful image. In a scene with no dialogue, it shows just how driven and selfless Bruce Wayne is: that he would gladly put his life on pause for the city, that his personal enjoyment doesn't matter.
3. "He gave us a Signal!" -
BATMAN.
The final image of Batman watching over the city with the Bat Signal on in the background, with Elfman's tremendous music just says it all.
2. "And you'll never have to." -
Batman Begins.
Notice the theme with the Bat Signal? This scene beautifully goes into the points that Burton only touched upon and expounds on them. My favorite scene in the film.
1. "I'm Batman!" -
BATMAN.
This scene did it. For the general populace that still hadn't been convinced that Batman was serious stuff (first by Denny O'Neal and Neal Adams, then by Frank Miller), this scene did it. It finally told the audience in a clear, definitive voice that Adam West was not the way you look at Batman. That Batman was now a dark, sinister creature of the night who hurt thugs and had them spread the word for him. That he was serious about saving Gotham.
Honorable mention:
"Some days, you just can't get rid of a bomb!" -
Batman.
Despite the campy approach to it, when you look at the actual idea behind the scene, it's that Bruce was willing to risk his life to get rid of that bomb, to complete avoid the bomb hurting ANYONE but himself.
"The scum's getting jumpy because you stood up to Falcone." -
Batman Begins.
Particularly the scene of Batman perched on the rooftops on his second night
out is iconic, but the ensuing scene with Gordon is perfection.
"Selina.... we're the same." -
Batman Returns.
Bruce pleading with Selina to let him save her was incredibly tragic. The fact that he tried and couldn't save her is powerful, powerful stuff. Keaton and Pfeiffer's acting was just spot-on, and your heart aches for the two who want to be together, but can never be.
"It Should have been you!" -
Batman Forever.
I love this scene. Dick's getting his ass kicked and then Bruce shows up, instantly making the gang members **** their pants and run, and Bruce is completely calm in the face of Dick's anger, owning him with a simple statement. "If Bruce Wayne could have given his life for your parents, he would have."
There's others, but I'm too lazy to type them out.
