'Total Recall' ready for revival

Are they officially going with a total recall as the title?

I remember that game. A movie adaptation of that could be pretty cool. Ironically, that game's plot has similar elements of two stories-turned-Arnold movies, Total Recall and The Running Man.

That is why I mentioned it.

I agree on how mundane most modern films view the future: It looks like today....only with LCD screens and touch-based Hologram computers (Think Iron Man and Minority Report). BORING>

there's a lot more than that going on in Minority Report, and Iron Man isn't set in the future.

Minority Report's tech still blows my mind.

Total Recall Now Casting Female Leads

Source: Deadline
March 22, 2011

As Len Wiseman's Total Recall gears up for production, casting is underway for the film's two female leads and, thanks to a report at Deadline, we now have an idea of who's been reading for what role.

The film, based on the 1990 Paul Verhoeven adaptation of the short Philip K. Dick story, "We Can Remember It For You Wholesale," features two key female parts, Lori (Sharon Stone in the original) and Melina (Rachel Ticotin).

Currently vying for the part of Lori are Kate Bosworth and Diane Kruger with Eva Mendes, Paula Patton, Jessica Biel and Eva Green in contention for the Melina part. Deadline's article notes that, though Mendes has been reading for Melina, she could foreseeably win the Lori role instead.

The original starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as Douglas Quaid, a man who, after buying implanted memories of a vacation to Mars, begins to remember experiences tied to an elaborate conspiracy.

The remake is currently eyeing an August 3, 2012 release.

This movie is a total fraud. Melina and Lori do not exist in the original story.

Cranston in Talks to Play Total Recall Villain

Source: Variety , Heat Vision

ComingSoon.net has confirmed that Bryan Cranston ("Breaking Bad") is in talks to play the villain in Columbia Pictures' Total Recall reboot. The news was first reported by Variety.

He would be joining Colin Farrell in the Len Wiseman-directed film, scheduled to hit theaters on August 3, 2012.

Philip K. Dick's short story "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale" served as the source for the 1990 film, which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger. The updated screenplay is being written by Kurt Wimmer, Mark Bomback and James Vanderbilt. Neal Moritz is producing through his Original Films.

Heat Vision has more on the storyline:

"The new story involves nation states Euromerica and New Shanghai, with Douglas Quaid (Farrell) a factory worker in the latter who begins to believe he is a spy, although he doesn't know for which side.

Cranston would play Vilos Cohaagen, the leader of Euromerica who, under the cover of protecting his people, is secretly readying an invasion of New Shanghai."

Cranston will be appearing in a lot of upcoming movies, including Larry Crowne, Contagion and John Carter of Mars.

Yeah, this just shot up my interest. Cranston is an immensely talented actor.

Besides the unintelligible Russian, I'm very excited for Cranston in this.

Cranston joining this is certainly a good news. Although I'm not to happy with the director that they chose for this movie but we'll see if this turns out to be good or not.

Cranston is the ONLY thing that has me interested in this film right now...

Gabe, why did you post that when we're already talking about it on this very page?

Kurt Wimmer's a hack who can't write a coherent script to save his life. Equlibrium's one thing, but have you guys seen Ultraviolet? That has one of the worst last-minute plot twists I've EVER seen!

Basically, the main villain, who was portrayed as a MASSIVE neat-freak up till the plot twist, was really a hemophage (i.e. pseudo vampire) just like the main character. WTF???
It comes completely out of left field during the final showdown and makes NO god damn sense AT ALL. If Wimmer can come up with something that stupid, then I'm VERY fearful for how fast he'll make the great Phillip K. Dick spin in his grave.

Kate Beckinsale Offered 'Total Recall' Role
EXCLUSIVE: Kate Beckinsale has been offered one of the female lead roles alongside Colin Farrell in the Sony Pictures remake Total Recall. I'm told she's been offered to play Lori, who was portrayed in the 1990 Paul Verhoeven-directed actioner by Sharon Stone. In fact, that role really launched Stone's star after she transformed from the happy spouse of Douglas Quaid (Arnold Schwarzenegger) into someone completely different.
Both that role and the role of Melina (played in the original by Rachel Ticotin) has drawn high interest from actresses. I've heard that Eva Mendes and Rosario Dawson are the serious contenders for the latter role. Beckinsale wasn't among the names most often mentioned among actresses who read for Lori. But she certainly has a track record with the film's director, Len Wiseman. They're married, and before that, worked together on the Underworld films. Beckinsale is also attached to star in The Trials of Kate McCullough, to be directed by Karen Moncrieff. She is currently shooting Underworld 4: New Dawn, so we'll have to wait a beat to see if she accepts. She's repped by WME.

Kate Beckinsale on Mars? Oh yes please.
