Paramount and DreamWorks are forging ahead with "Transformers 3," dating the movie for release on July 1, 2011.It's the first official word of the three-quel. Paramount insiders have said that the dating of the pic isn't an official announcement that the project is going forward; rather that the studio wanted to plan a stake in the date.
DreamWorks and Par weren't immediately available to confirm whether Michael Bay and stars Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox are set to return for the third installment in the franchise, which has fast claimed the July 4th holiday as its own.
"Transformers" opened July 3, 2007; "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" bows on June 24, 2009.
So far, "Transformers 3" has no direct competition in its July 1, 2011 date.
Paramount also has moved up the release of Marvel Entertainment's "Thor" from June 16, 2011 to May 20, 2011.

Paramount is getting too many eggs in its basket. Either summer 2011 will prove insanely profitable for Paramount and its partners Dreamworks and Marvel, or the amount of releases will cancel each other out in terms of profits. There are already four Paramount-distributed comic-book/nerd films out -- Thor (May 20), TF-3 (July 1) and CA (July 22).

I think Paramount will move TF-3 if they can't get production rolling on schedule, like they almost did when the WGA strike nearly derailed production on TF-2.

Ehh I thought Bay said he was going to take a break from Transformers after RotF. I was expecting a 2012 date for TF3. Also didn't Spielberg break away from Paramount meaning no more Paramount/Dreamworks flicks?

Yeah, I was expect 2012 too. Maybe Bay was just having a hard time finding a project to do in between?

He did, but there are still some Paramount/Dreamworks co-produced flicks over at Paramount, including the option for TF sequels. The mindset for Paramount when Dreamworks announced their split was probably "No way in hell is Disney or Universal getting their paws on a franchise like this!"

Even with the Dreamworks/Paramount split, Paramount has a separate distribution deal with Dreamworks Animation up until 2012, I believe. Since their partnership with DA and Marvel has brought in loads of cash for Paramount, I doubt Para will let either of them slip away to rivals like Universal, WB, Sony or Fox.

Looking like 2012 now.

I said I was taking off a year from Transformers. Paramount made a mistake in dating Transformers 3 - they asked me on the phone - I said yes to July 4 - but for 2012 - whoops! Not 2011!!! That would mean I would have to start prep in September. No way. My brain needs a break from fighting robots.

Unless Spielberg stepped in to direct, I don't see how they could press forward without Bay.

It could be a placeholder date for now in case Bay decides to do it for 2011. If not, they can always move it to 2012 and plop CA in the July 1st slot.

Bay is too damn savvy to think it was a "mistake" having Transformers 3 listed for 2011 instead of 2012.

He and Paramount/DreamWorks are playing a game of "Chicken!" to see who will flinch first.

Only low budget trilogies go two years between each film. The big franchises need the full three years between at least one of those films so that the franchise doesn't burn out too quickly.

HAHA I like how he said his brain needs a break from fighting robots. No, your brain needs a break from explosions and destruction.

Don't tell Don Murphy that Michael Bay wrote this. Murphy might post on his forums that Michael Bay is a whiney cry baby.

I still don't understand how these two can work together on a movie.
Murphy hates Bay and bay hates Murphy. Yet Bay is the director and Murphy is the producer. So what..Murphy just says "here's the money and make the movie "
