...where back then it was very much a different circumstance. In terms of how connected we all were and in terms of how cynical our pundits felt towards cinema.

There is a great deal of films that, had they come out this summer...
And I'm not just talking about stuff like temple but the idea of the first spidey as is coming out in 2013 as opposed to 2002. It's all just tainted and all these voices don't help matters. Kinda sucks for artistic voices imo.

There is a kid out there that has just as magical and influential an experience with MOS as some old timer did when they first sas STM as a kid. But to hell if that old timer isn't going to influence this youngsters innocent experience/universe with his 'crap'.

If only everyone could experience everything innocently. A kid see's a magical trailer, they go and have their childhood(however flawed the film really is). Instead it's this reality, in which they are bombarded with 'us' filling the discourse with talk of how stupid all this stuff really is. A shame really. And then all are talk influences hollywood to not even make any more, thus robbing some kid of some experience in some way. I'm just not a fan of such things tbh. But it is what it is.

At least I got to watch cool runnings, before these critics and 'internets' today would have buried it.
thank goodness.

I do think that some criticism can be warranted, i agree that i would like to see the bots get more development for example, with Spider-Man i think that there's simply no way to get away from criticism when you reboot such a well liked franchise this soon, as someone that grew up with the Trilogy, and knowing others who did too, it was a little heartbreaking. Seems like many evens toped caring for the franchise, which i think is reflected in the box office of both Amazing Spider-Man movies.

Since we talk about "magical" films and criticism, i remember having a wonderful experience watching Pirates of the Caribbean 2, i was some 11 years old and remember loving that film a lot, even though the cliffhanger felt a bit weird to me, even back then, it still left me excited for more, most kids my age seemed to react the same way. Enter the internet and it's pretty much hated, even for the faults of the 3rd movie.

I don't mind criticism, it's good to state an opinion of a movie and how certain elements don't work so well, but some of the straight up hate and dismissal of a certain movie, even when there is craft put into it, seems a bit too harsh.

Because this

Teenage-Mutant-Ninja-Turtle-Street-Poster-Shredder-439x650.jpg

Just looks dumb, one thing is using those weird concepts, another is trying to make them ""edgy" and dark.

Except that's not quite what Shredder looks like in the movie. That's a drawing of a silhouette, near as I can tell. The detail in his costume matters

What do you mean "trying to make them edgy and dark"? They put blades upon blades on a character known for having blades, who was originally conceived based on a cheese grater. It's clearly meant to be both kind of cheesy and incredibly vicious-looking.

So according to Wikipedia the budget is only $165 million. That's less than Amazing Spiderman 2 and yet it looks just as good FX wise. I give Bay credit, he knows how to get the bang for his buck.

It's less than alot of movies, including the prior two, and cap2 and the prior two batman(tdkr cost 250 which I think is more than asm2). I don't think bay will ever make a film that costs more than 200mill.

That being said, there are a few reasons why this one might be cheaper than the prior ones. Right off the bat, bay get's a cut of profits and toys so that might not reflect in the PB, then there is the whole co-production thing...and with china of all places(they keep their dollar low, or so I've heard). Hard to say really.

Bay is good at budgets though. I'm pretty curious how low he demanded they keep turtles.

I really doubt that is the final number. I would not be surprised at all if this was around $200m. The money is gonna be on the screen with major ILM effects for at least an hour of the almost 3 hour film.

Bay is a pro at going within or below budget, but this flick has way too many extreme effects and epic set pieces going on for a 165m budget.

If that is the real number then that is literally amazing. Even with a 200m it's impressive given the number of effect shots and detail in these films.

It might be.

It's alot cheaper to shoot where they did than it was in down town chicago and such. What's really key is the time it takes and all those salaries and day rates and permits and what not. Alot can supposedly be saved the faster you get through it.
The cars are all but free at this point(and they are given cars to destroy). And there is alot of in film ads...

Bay is known for getting the most out of his budgets, its another thing he often isnt given credit for.

I just got back. This movie is ****ing awesome. Definitely better then the last 2 and on par with the first one. You guys should be happy to know that the juvenile, vulgar humour is gone. It, actually, has some genuinely funny moments. The action is spectacular, of course, and the main bots all have distinct personalities. It reminds me of the original in that respect. Lockdown is an awesome, evil, badass villain too.

Also,
Drift is a triple changer
. :woot:

^Awesome stuff Jake, thanks. Going to see this over weekend myself, possibly tomorrow night.

^Nice, some questions if you dont mind?

How big are Drift's and Galvatron's roles?

I am planning on seeing it Thursday. I'm due for a big action special effects extravaganza

[BLACKOUT]Galvatron doesn't have a big role at all. Lockdown is the main villain. Drift, Hound and Crosshairs are like Jazz, Ironhide and Ratchet in the first movie. They all have some really good moments. Very distinctive personalities, too. [/BLACKOUT]

You just said everything I wanted to hear :up:

How is the pacing of the film? A common complaint in the reviews is that this one was too long.

Also is the score as solid as the others?

It held my interest the entire time, so I didn't even notice the length.

I didn't really notice the score. I was too busy sinking in all the awesomeness. :woot:

Awesome, thanks.

Can't wait to see this.

Yeah, they won't blow that wad if they are going where I think they are.

I liked the human characters. None of the were annoying and the bad guys are vile bastards. Grammer is really good in this.

One last question,

Think it was confirmed already that Grimlock doesn't speak. But do we get decent screen time with him in robot form?

The Dinobots don't get a lot of screen time in their robot forms. There a couple of good shots of them, though. Grimlock has 1 line. :yay:

I don't want to get your hopes up. It's not an impressive, badass Optimus-type line, but it's better than nothing. He is giving an order, which is pretty cool, I guess.
