Age of Extinction Transformers 5 Official Thread

They said the same about Transformers 4, a new Director would probably have a problem with the 2016 date, Bay is very fast and has experience at shooting in a way that makes post-production easier. Not sure they will hite a comedy film Director, i just hope they give more weight next time, the Dinobots could have been a good oportunity for a Spielbergian kind of moment to create some bonds, would hope for a Director that can do these kinds of scenes well.

I think if a new director comes on board the movie will be delayed by at least a year. At the same time, I think Bay will be back.

^TF4 has just crossed a billion and is yet to make more money, a re-boot is not happening at this stage no matter what.

I honestly think Bay should stick on for the 5th and 6th movie. Just for the sake of finishing/completing it. Then after that, get a new director/producer and do a re-boot. Just my thinking.

He can stay as Producer, but for TF 5 they should get somebody else, if he wants, he can return for the finale in TF 6, but it would be cool to see somebody else get a try.

Don't expect a reboot anytime soon though.

Agreed, it his universe now, he should finish it IMO. Asking a new director to come on at this point and have to continue what Bay has set up is a bit unfair if you ask me.

If Bay makes more movies he should negotiate a better deal than the 26 million dollar budget Pain and Gain which he got to make in exchange for TF2 and TF3.

Really he should get a 100 million dollar passion project for each TF film.

Why? Pain and Gain didn't need a 100m budget and that was a passion project for him. The dude earns enough money to make what he wants. He's all over the place with producing as well. It's actually refreshing to see him making smaller films like Pain And Gain.

OK, then he should make a few movies like Pain and Gain. The point is that he had to make 2 movies for the man to make one for himself.

I disagree that he can't give it to anyone else, he has still left the film series maliable enough for a different Director to continue the story but make a completely new take on it.

I also agree with him being all over the place with the production, he actualy makes good looking films for less money than they usualy would be done, The Avengers for example didn't look like it needed as much as it did sometimes.

I disagree, too many characters have been killed off and too many storylines done and dusted it is a bit unfair to ask a new director to come in and run with an already established universe IMO, especially if it was an up and coming director. Bay should do the next two movies and then they should re-boot it.

What storylines? Autobots vs Decepticon on Earth has been done 3 times already, that war technicaly ended in Dark of the Moon, sure, there were various elements that were used but never properly explored, like the matrix of leadership, the various characters in almost name only, etc. But to be honest, that's been done and done, i wish i got to see stuff like Starscream actualy trying to constantly become the leader of the Decepticon, or Shockwave as a Josef Mengele type of scientist, but overall, many other doors are still open to be explored.

It's just like with X-Men, you have the main conflict between the team and Magneto, but there are still other stories you can pursue. The Fast and the Furious Franchise for example had 4 films considered bad consecutively, then it was able to give a more worthy 5th and 6th instalments.

Up until now, i think these films have had interesting ideas that weren't very well executed, just continue from what you started, but try exploring your themes better. Is Michael Bay realy the only guy who can Direct these films right now? They've been hyping space exploration, yet the only climaxes he seems to be able to do are those set in Urban areas, with the heavily promoted Dinobots barely getting any screentime. If anything, what the franchise needs is a new Director, somebody with new ideas, but with some decent knowledge on how to Direct action and more interest on characters.

I don't mind rebooting one day, but i don't think the plot is completely unsalvageable, you have all the right set-up, what you need is just better writing.

^The problem is most of the characters you mentioned are dead, Starscream and Shockwave could and should have had much better storylines and been kept around, but what happened, happened. This is Bays world and he has started this new trilogy, I think he should finish it.

Any new director would be a slave to what came before.

Not necessarily...just do what the TF comics have done and bring in the multiverse: Autobots and Decepticons from different alternate versions of the Movies' reality, showing up in this one as the result of the Creators' shenanigans. They can cap TF6 with their obligatory big battle, use the Ancient Space MacGuffin Of The Week to seal the rifts between realities before the whole damn universe is undone but in doing so stranding several alternate-reality TFs in the 'main' reality - including TFs who have long since died in the previous films. Boom, back to square one for the next guy.

^I think in this particular TF franchise it just wouldnt fit to do all of that stuff. I would love to see it, and love to see Nemesis Prime and Jhiaxus, etc, but going from the world they have set up to that would just be too much of a jump for me.

Plus, in 2 out of the 4 movies so far a Prime turned evil has been the bad guy, dont really want to see that for a while now.

They're dead and their storylines are done, but that doesn't mean you can't do new stuff, Autobots vs Decepticon has been done 3 times, move on now into the next major step. I disagree that Michael Bay's the only one who can make this, he actualy seemed to have lost some passion by the 4th film, and as i said, he's more fitting for an urban setting, when what the franchise needs is to start exploring space more.

Hire someone like the Directors of the last Planet of the Apes films, who can tell a story focusing on non-human characters, because that's the focus this new trilogy needs. Bay doesn't realy seem to have a planned end-game, so i don't think he's more capable for this than any other blockbuster film Director, if all he can offer is more of the same, and doesn't realy make use of new elements like what happened in Extinction, then he should just Produce instead of Directing this.

I don't think it's unfair for another Director to be passed on the franchise from him, it just depends on how creative that person is, and how much freedom the studio gives him.

^Well thats 2 different directors you are talking about, and Reeves is tied up in the next Apes film. I certainly wouldnt mind Rupert Wyatt getting the job, but again I would prefer someone like that for the inevitable re-boot.

I didn't know any of them before they did Apes, i'm sure there are some good Directors available for a project like this.

Reeves was known, he did Cloverfield and Let Me In, 2 very good movies that were critically acclaimed. Wyatt was known here in England.

But they weren't exactly household names like Bay, or popular among fandom like Blomkamp, i don't know most of the Directors around involved with some of the films that don't make it to the top 10 highest grossing, but there always exists good Directors around with will to prove themselves.

^I am not disputing that, I just think it would be a bit unfair to ask them to step into a franchise like this. My preference is that Bay does the next 2 and then a new director comes in for a re-boot, but we will have to wait and see I guess.

I think in least one other person should be given a try, Bay shouldn't have done the 4th film, compared to the others, he looked very uninspired, if the plan fails then sure, let Bay end the new Trilogy by the 6th film, but i think another person should get a try at this.

After they finish the new trilogy, i doubt we'll see a reboot, probably a Transformers/ G.I.Joe crossover.

A re-boot is going to happen at some point, probably when this next trilogy ends. I personally thought AoE was the best one since the 1st, so Bay still has some passion for this franchise, and again, if Bay wouldnt have done the 4th film, THAT would have been the time for a new director to step in, but he did do it, so I personally want him to complete this next trilogy.
