Comics Transformers comics

I try to limit my involvement with so many forums, I stricktly keep it to 3, I just don't have the time in my life.

I was like that too....but my doc's have taken me out of work for the last 6 months so I have lots of time.

Also out this week (it’s feast or famine with the folk at Titan) is issue #10 of Transformers (UK), which features the second part of ‘Twilight’s Last Gleaming’ (story by me, art by Jeremy Tiongson). I won’t drone on overlong about our tumultuous reality warping storyline (as I’ve done so at length already, elsewhere on this blog), but suffice it to say that the action this issue out-Bays Michael Bay. The combined military forces of pretty much the rest of the (currently) free world take on Megatron’s Decepticon would-be world-conquerors… and the result isn’t pretty. And it’s not any rosier a picture for the Autobots, who are in process of making one last (almost certainly futile) effort to derail the Decepticons’ plans. Plus, more comic strip, a first look at Transformers Animated and a free missile blaster (admit it, that’s the real clincher!). For a peek at the cover, click on the link below:

Nice to see some familiar faces in there that were not in the movie.

Yeah, they have come up as red x's now, they were working at the time of being post so I'm not sure what happened. There is a link on the first page if you still want to view them.

Out this week, in store 23rd April in the US (just in time for Botcon)/24th in the UK, is the long-awaited (by me at least) Transformers Spotlight: Grimlock. It had to happen, I suppose. Ever since his supporting role in Spotlight: Shockwave, it’s only ever been a matter of time before the Dinobot commander (an established favourite of mine) got his star turn. And what a turn it is! Not only is it something of a sequel to Spotlight: Shockwave, it’s also something of a prequel (not saying yet to what, but maybe I’ll get to spill the beans at Botcon), and it even ties into the ongoing Escalation/Devastation storyline, featuring, as it does, a certain Scorponok! Oh, and rest assured that despite this after- and fore- shadowing, it’s pretty much a standalone story in its own right too. Reawakened by government alien-spotters Skywatch, Grimlock is not in the best of moods, especially as he soon realises his actions may have doomed his fellow Dinobots… even if they survived their molten end in Spotlight: Shockwave. Enter Scorponok, with an offer that Grimlock may just not be able to refuse! Story is by me, art by Marcelo Matere. For details of all IDW’s Transformers titles, check out their website here.

Also out this week, but only in the UK, on Thursday 24th, is issue #11 of Titan’s Transformers comic/magazine, featuring (in amongst more comic strip, features and competitions) the third part of the apocalyptic Twilight’s Last Gleaming. If you remember, TLG takes an alternate look at post live-action movie events, exploring a near-future in the which Decepticons are the victors and Autobots are an endangered species. Starscream continues his machinations this episode, throwing a spanner in the Autobots’ carefully laid plans to further his own diabolical agenda. Forced into desperate action the moon-based Autobots head for Earth and their respective dates with destiny. And Bumblebee takes on Megatron (no prizes for guessing how that one turns out) and Mikaela takes on Frenzy (not as one-sided as you might think) and Ironhide and Ratchet come up against… well, that’d be telling! Art this issue comes from Paul Ridgon, and it rocks!

Sorry peeps, I've been slacking off a bit on the TF comic news :o

^What you would expect really, but BB is brave for even thinking of taking him on. Ratchett has in the past and got owned big-time, so BB getting owned is no surprise.

Here we go with a somewhat cautious and circumspect (ie. as spoiler free as possible) post-script analysis of Transformers Spotlight: Sideswipe, the last of the ‘Revelation’ quartet/story arc (which plays out across Spotlights Cyclonus, Hardhead, Doubledealer and Sideswipe). So what’s going on with the Dead Universe saga? A lot, is the short answer! Story threads that have been building and developing almost since the IDW-verse was brought screaming into this world come to a head (and a conclusion) herein. Optimus Prime faces Nemesis Prime! Arcee (finally) catches up with Jhiaxus! Galvatron seeks (actively) his destiny! Jetfire faces Bludgeon (okay, that is a capital letters SPOILER!)! Ultra Magnus calls the shots in a last, desperate attempt to stave off the imminent Expansion! A trio of Autobots actually set foot in the Dead Universe… and live to tell the tale! How? Let’s just say it plays into yet another evolving story thread! And in amongst all this — Sideswipe, trying hard not to get squeezed out of his own Spotlight! Yes, he finally gets to Earth! Yes, we learn the true relationship between him and Sunstreaker… and why he’s been so darned keen to find him! Yes, he gets to hit lots of things, in the course of which we find out a little about what makes him tick. Who lives? Who dies? Who’s already dead by this stage of the story? All will be, er, revealed. Spotlight Sideswipe hits stores in September. Script by me, art by EJ Su. Excuse me, I think I need to lie down now…

Sideswipe seems to kick arse in his spotlight, looking forward to it

Just bought 'Eye Of The Storm' the animation looks extremely old, but it was the only one in the comics shop that i hadnt read before, i hope its good.

Eye Of The Storm is MUCH better than i anticipated, a really good read despite some thigns not being explained and the animation being REALLY old.

I have also just ordered Megatron: Origin, Infiltration, and Stormbringer, cant wait!

Just finished Megatron:Origins and was........slightly dissapointed, it was VERY confusing, some bits just came out of no were and half the time you couldnt tell which one was Megatron, so i read it again and enjoyed it more 2nd time. I could more easily make Megatron out in the early parts of the story.

But, i still found the fight with Sentinel Prime dissapointing, Megatron beat him pretty easily IMO, and it was a shame we could see the birth of Optimus Prime and his first encounter with Megatron. Also, i think Megatron turning evil was a bit too quick and easy, i would have like a bit more focus on that part of the story.

Out this week, part of a veritable torrent of new releases (talk about feast or famine!), is Transformers Spotlight: Cyclonus, part 1 of the 4-part Revelations arc. Those of you who’ve been following the brooding, bubbling under subplot concerning Nova/Nemesis Prime and the Dead Universe are about to be hit by the raging hurricane that is Revelation. But, as well as being part 1 of 4, it’s also a Spotlight, and the character focus falls, first and foremost, on Cyclonus. But who is IDW/TF-verse Cyclonus? Given the recent IDW reinvention of Galvatron (in Spotlight Galvatron) it can’t be the animated movie version (as there’s no Unicron). This Cyclonus is, nevertheless, associated to Galvatron, inasmuch as both are/were part of the crew of the (long missing) first Ark. But who is Cyclonus and why’s he back on Cybertron (now a ruined, largely uninhabited husk)? And why exactly is he taking out his considerable frustrations on Hound’s unit (comprising Sideswipe, himself the subject of a latter Spotlight in this quartet, Warpath, Road Rocket and Skram)? And how does Ultra Magnus get drawn into the action? And what’s that stirring inside a cave on Corata-Vaz? Something BIG, something terribly familiar (especially if you’ve been following the various IDW/TF arcs of late). The Expansion (whatever THAT is) is upon us, and the storm is well and truly raging! Spotlight Cyclonus hits this Wednesday (18th) in the US and Thursday (19th) in the UK. It’s written by me with art by EJ Su. Click on the thumbnail below for a look-see at EJ’s cover, part of one huge scene specially created for this landmark four-part arc. For information on all IDW’s new releases, check out their website here.

Well just ordered the first volume of IDW comic. I really liked both of their Beast Wars. Looking forward to getting it soon.

Anyone know any UK based web-sites that sell TF TPB's? I'm having a really hard time trying to get Escalation, Spotlight Vol 1 and War Within.

^They are hit and miss, i cant get hold of the likes of Escalation or Spotlight Vol.1 without paying about £20 which i refuse to do. War Within is like £35!
