So, is 8.6 a not so bad thing, or not as good as expected?

thanks Cth. I saw 52 negatrons there.

8.6 is really really good...

However, with less than 1000 votes so far, it may or may not be representative of the final score once there are 30,000-40,000 votes like most bigger films.

true that. that's why we are coming back to this rating one week and one year after the movie release.

why is it so important to see how other people have rated the film, surely one's own review and opinions is going to be the most paramount?

Well when I saw SM3 I kept reading bad and good reviews about it and it turns out when I saw it I wished I had never wasted my money to go see it at the IMAX, so reviews do help and give you an idea of what to expect

Granted, a film like Transformers is something I was gonna see regardless, but more often than not, I like to see how a film is reviewed, because ticket prices have become far too high. Especially now that the cutoff time for matinees is 4PM instead of 6PM. It's gotten to the point where I need some gauge for knowing whether or not a movie I'm interested in seeing is worth my time.

Imagine living in a place where matinees don't exist. And ticket prices are through the roof. (Curious, are they $11.00 [$12.50 on Fandango] everywhere else?)

Then imagine going on a date to see Ultraviolet on opening night... giving it the benefit of the doubt because you liked the director's previous movie. Oy vey!

I just bought tickets for 10 dudes in my office to go on the 3rd. Final cost = $65.00

Matinee prices here are $6.50 with regular shows @ $8 or 8.50.

but wouldn't you prefer to make up your own mind without having a tainted view on it based on some review...

if that was the case, i would have never watched ff2 which i really enjoyed.

see what i mean?

The fact that you watched sm 3 and formed your own opinion on it is due to having mixed reviews. What if they had all been negative, you would have not watched the film and you could have potentially really liked it.

I have found that the best (well written) reviews whether postive or negative *prepare* me for a movie. If say, Ebert gives a negative review, but still says the movie had X or Y going for it, I'll still go see it.... but I'll be prepared... and I'd probably enjoy it for what it is.

Had I done that with movies like Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, Phantom Menace... etc, instead of blindly going on opening night I may have enjoyed them more.

The IMDB score is one of the factors movie tracking sites like fantasymogul.com use to forecast potential Box Office.

Hopefull this movie is huge the movies this year have been dispointments so far. 300 was the best so far but that movie is overrhyped to. Hopefully transformers can deliver.

After reading the movie Novel...this is going to be one amazing film.

It WILL deliver.

I have 3 kids - I can't afford to go out to many movies, cuz I have to account for the full date package including babysitting :(

Well I wasn´t excited about SM3 and didn´t have high expectations for it since I´m not really a fan of the first two movies and not a fan of Rami´s directing style, also if all the reviews had been bad I probably wouldn´t have gone and probably would have just waited to rent it or wait for a decent quality version of the film to hit the net :ninja: but as it stands right now I´m not really excited about Transformers since I have my doubts about it but I´m really hoping when I see it that I´ll really enjoy the film

An 8.6 does bode well for the film. It might actually excede fans expectations.

If only it were out now, though.

Going off of that itll probably be around 7.3-7.7 when its all said and done.

Truth be told, as an old (pre-Spidey) Raimi fan, I had been expecting a totally different SM3 (a lot darker--- something Raimi is totally capable of had he chosen or been allowed to do). The reviews prepared me tho.... so I walked away not hating the movie and actually appreciating a lot of it (if a bit underwhelmed).
