It only underperformed because last June was cramped as hell, release-wise. Spider-Verse didn't help matters.

Transformers isn't as lucrative as it was once.

The G.I. Joe will be basically used as the next gimmick, similar to Dinobots and Beast Wars, and the results for those two weren't exactly great.

Paramount isn't a great studio to handle live action movies for Transformers, G.I.Joe, Star Trek and Ninja Turtles.

This is just me, but they'd be missing an opportunity here not to have whomever is doing the voice of Starscream also be the voice of Cobra Commander as a nod to Chris Latta. In fact, they could bring back Charlie Adler who did Screamer's voice in the first Bay trilogy and also voiced CC in the GI Joe: Renegades cartoon.

Sucks because I really wanted Caple to return to direct the crossover film but if he is indeed helming the I Am Legend sequel then it’s Bonaventura and Paramounts lost.
