Treasure Island Reboot Planned
Sherlock Holmes, what have you wrought?
Source: Variety

We blame Jack Sparrow and Sherlock Holmes: a new version of Treasure Island with a “hipper” Long John Silver to appeal to The Kids Today is currently in the works at Ecosse Films.
Spotting the chance to ride on the twin success of Sherlock and the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise, the company is taking Robert Louis Stevenson’s swashbuckling literary classic, bursting with pirates and buried gold and making it cooler and sexier.
It appears the Silver and narrator Jim Hawkins will be more of a double act this time around, with Ecosse no doubt hoping to snag two big stars to take the roles.
It’s not really shocking – the tale has been adapted many times into all sorts of incarnations, crossing various genres, but it remains to be seen whether it can mutate again

No way they can top the Charleton Heston/Christian Bale Treasure Island. It had Oliver Reed as Billy Bones!

Can Sherlock Holmes really be grouped together with this? Didnt the new one have more in common with the original novels than any incarnation Hollywood has made?

what tha.......... are you serious :awesome:

about the remake
not sure about a "hipper" long john silver

LJS to me will always be tim curry from the muppet version :hehe:

here's my beef: do studios ever think of the longevity of a movie, instead of the 'now'. Whatever is hip now will be dated in a few years.

Didn't Treasure Planet already try and fail at this?

And because Treasure Planet was a good movie as well.

As for the reboot, I'll give it a shot. Last Treasure Island movie I remember is the Muppet one.

I still like the Disney version, Walt's first foray into live action.

Doesn't Disney own the rights to this. Sorry for posting what already was posted and all.

The Perfect Silver in my view would be pardon the Irony on one of them but here is my perfect casting choice.

1 Jim Hawkins------ Logan Lerman.
2 Long John Silver--- Alfred Molina.
3 Billy Bones--------- Bill Nighy.
4 Ben Gunn---------- Andy Serkis.
5 Captain Flint------- Brian Blessed.
6 Captain Smollett----Gary Oldman.
7 Dr Livesly---------- David Wendham.
8 Squire Trelwaney--- Ian Holm.
9 Ms Hawkins-------- Catherine Zeta Jones.

Eh, I wouldn't be opposed to this. A little tweaking won't hurt these old classics, and faithful versions have already hit the screen.

what a bad idea. First Sherlock Holmes (which is enjoyable in a guilty pleasure sort of way), next the Three Musketeers and now this.

Classic literary characters don't need to be "hip." I fear that Universal's redos of Frankenstein and Dracula are going to star Robert Pattinson and Bradley Cooper at this rate.

I'd say the best version of the book to date is the Walt Disney version from the '50s. I'm not saying it can't be easily surpassed, but I don't think this is going to be it.

P.S. If you want the closest adaptation to the Sherlock stories, watch the Jeremy Brett series. It was practically a literal adaptation. Very good.

Oh, I'm not opposed to it. I love pirates. It's Hollywood's lazy attitude of making remakes in general. It seems they have ran out of ideas.

Well each generation needs a New adaptation on some films. take Robin Hood, Dracula is another Muskateers and Treasure Island make since to have new adaptations is can dust off Robin Hood.

They should get Guy Ritchie to do the Treasure Island remake for Sherlock Holmes was good.

So do I. Doesn't everybody?

Arrr
