Legacy Is Only The Beginning...

Honor Hunter said:
It appears that the Suits in Burbank are very happy, albeit somewhat nervous of the price tag of "Tron Legacy" with the latest screenings...

It appear that some are feeling what "The Matrix" was to the 1990's, this could be to the coming decade. When I spoke with one of my Bothans last night that's the impression they got. Although the budget for the film is quite high, it's not at the level of "Avatar." But from the footage seen, the executives are looking at planning out a trilogy of films (or Tetralogy if you count the original). Not that they hadn't hoped it would be something they could make sequels to. But there is already talk of another script and planning has quietly gotten underway. It's preliminary, embryonic stuff of course, but Disney is feeling that confident in what next Christmas could hold for Walt Disney Pictures.

VARIETY EXCLUSIVE: 'Lost' exec producers Horowitz, Kitsis sell pilot to ABC

“Lost” exec producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis have sold their hourlong drama script “Once Upon a Time” to ABC.

Besides exec producing and writing “Lost,” Horowitz and Kitsis wrote the upcoming pic “Tron: Legacy” as well as the “Tron” sequel. They’re also penning “Ouija,” the Universal pic based on the Hasbro property.

EXCLUSIVE: 'Tron' producer inks with Disney
Jeffrey Silver to focus on key tentpoles under rare pact

Jeffrey Silver Producer Jeffrey Silver has signed an overall production deal with Walt Disney Pictures. Under the agreement, Silver will focus on producing the key tentpole productions. It is only the second producer pact made since Sean Bailey took the job of production head in January. It also is one of the rare deals being signed at any studio in an age where such partnerships are being cut or simply not being renewed. Silver is better known as a line producer, and among the more than 30 films he's produced are such titles as "300" and "Terminator Salvation." He is now wrapping "Tron Legacy," Disney's sci-fi tentpole directed by Joseph Kosinski that comes out in December. Silver ran Outlaw Prods. with Bobby Newmyer, producing such films as the "Santa Clause" series and "Training Day." When Newmyer died suddenly in 2005, Silver created his own shingle, Biscayne Pictures. "This is something different for me," Silver said. "I've been a gun for hire for many years. I've always taken both a creative and physical approach to a range of pics because I think of myself as a hybrid. Not a lot of people combine line and creative; I try to do both."Disney is bringing Silver on board to work on their tentpole pics, which include a potential "Tron" sequel and "Oblivion," another Kosinski project. The projects he is looking to bring in on a creative front will have a sci-fi or fantasy bent.

Tron Legacy Sequel Begins Booting

I'm gonna take a wait and see approach.I'm very excited about the movie but I want to see it first before I know if I want a sequel.

Disney invested a lot of money into Tron.

but i dont think Tron has and will blow the general public out of their minds.

i dont expect a sequel. the tv show yes.

But I want a sequel. :(
we got a sequel to a movie that never had any chance for a sequel. yet it happened.

the problem is that they made the biggest mistake in 2008 . they said '' lets leave this for the second sequel''. you need to make the best moie possible the first time.

but this is Disney.

Right now, it's hard to say. I'm thinking that they'll get a new director or new writers on board.

at this rate, it could pull a Tangled and just keep on trucking.

I hope theres a sequel, Im really interested in the
Dillinger Jr story arch

Tron Legacy Director Contemplates Sequel Possibilities

http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1654761/20101221/story.jhtml

After "Tron Legacy" was crowned box-office king with a $43.6 million haul on its opening weekend, naturally the "Tron" talk shifts toward the sequel question. There's already a script in the works, so when MTV News had the chance to chat with one of the power players in the discussion — director Joseph Kosinski — we asked if he's thought about a sequel.

"Yeah, and I think we've created a world that has a lot of possibilities in it," he said. "It was important to me that we created those connections back to the original film. If audiences are interested in this movie and decide they want to go back, and we can find the right story and a way to push the envelope again, I would definitely consider going back."

In addition to bringing back stars Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde, one character that seemed as though he could have a part in the continuation of the story is the briefly appearing Edward Dillinger (played by Cillian Murphy), a rising star at ENCOM, the ominous tech company at the center of "Tron" mythos.

"I'm a big fan of his," Kosinski said when asked how Murphy joined the project. "I'd been talking to him about a way to get involved in the movie from the beginning, and this opportunity came up, so I asked him to be a part of it, and he was excited to do it," Kosinski explained. "So I'm thrilled to have him in there."

Wilde echoed Kosinski's sentiments regarding Murphy's brief performance.

"Cillian Murphy — we were so lucky to have in this film," Wilde said. "His part in 'Tron Legacy' is so mysterious and cool. His role really fits into the mythology of 'Tron,' the corrupt environment of ENCOM. It just shows you that this fight is far from over."

Wilde has also said that she'd be game for another "Tron" movie, particularly exploring how her character, Quorra, would adapt to the human world.

"I'm so thrilled to play with Quorra in the human world. It would be sort of like 'Splash,' " she said, referring to the '80s comedy starring Daryl Hannah as a mermaid unleashed in Manhattan. "I want to see her whispering to laptops and hugging toasters. ... There's a whole other chapter ahead."

Do you want to see a sequel to "Tron Legacy"? Do you want to see more of Cillian Murphy's character? Tell us in the comments!

Cool, I hope it does get a sequel. I want to see Sam face off with Dillinger Jr.

I'd love to see a sequel for this, in Legacy well the story was the weak part so I don't mind if they could change the writers and maybe director since Kosinski will be busy with either "The Black Hole" remake or "Oblivion" but it all depends on how this movie performs, but I'm crossing my fingers that it will pull enough.

I would love a sequel and they left it open for more.So I hope it does well enough to warrant a sequel.

I keep reading that Tron Legacy has had disappointing returns.

I hope there is a sequel though

Definitely would like to see a sequel. I loved Tron: Legacy.

Edward Dillinger Jr. having a larger role in it would be pretty awesome. :D

I don't think a sequel will happen unless dvd sales are amazing. Right now, the domestic and international box office is terrible.

i'd love a sequel!

so many aspects to explore in a third film - Sam continuing his father's legacy at Encom, Alan & Tron, Quorra asapting to the real world and her relationship with Sam, Dillinger Jr, rebuilding of the Grid, etc.

From AICN:
The Grapevine says, Disney is about to Green Light a TRON LEGACY sequel...
Hey folks, Harry here...

And this was the happy word I received today on the Grapevine of Industry Insiders. TRON LEGACY, a film that many people loved, and a lot of people wanted more from, and that a very vocal minority incessantly ***** about... is getting close, incredibly close to having its SEQUEL announced!

As TRON LEGACY is set to cross $300 million worldwide, the film has proved, beyond a doubt that there is an audience that buys this science fiction fantasy. And as DAFT PUNK's blisteringly awesome TRON LEGACY score continues to power the geek work force of the nation to plow through mindnumbing task after task... Disney is beginning to realize, TRON could be a franchise.

As kids around the country pulled out wall crawling light trail leaving Tron LIGHT CYCLES from under their Christmas trees, Disney has been counting the receipts - and I'm told... it's about to hit the tipping point.

Now the real question is... Where does TRON go from here? There is a plan, but it is being closely guarded. There's a TV show in the works to keep the brand popping till the next Theatrical run, but it looks like us TRON geeks won't be having to sit around for 28 years hanging onto this last one, like we did the first one.

I just want glowing TRON shoes in Adult sizes. Yeah, I'm crazy that way. I have had the old Adidas TRON shoes long before TRON LEGACY was announced as happening, and my Hallmark TRON ornament desperately wants a glowy RECOGNIZER ornament next year!

So... if you've been stalling revisiting the game grid again, after watching THE GREEN HORNET this weekend, take another trip.

END OF LINE

I'll take a sequel, but I'm tired of this trilogy and half movies ( PotC: Dead Man's Chest, Matrix: Reloaded) crap.

28 Years Versus 28 Months... Game on, again...

I'm sure you all saw that post over at Ain't It Cool News yesterday...

Now, I have no confirmation of this. In fact, I've been waiting to hear back from several bothans, and I know as of last week the Bothans in Glendale were still waiting to hear if their proposals would be moving forward out of the blue sky phase.

But according Harry and his sources, the Mouse is about to green light a third Tron film. A sequel to Legacy would be the second of a proposed new trilogy that sets the original in a place of its own. Now I know many people didn't expect another Tron film, several have considered this one a bomb. It's not a bomb, but it certainly isn't the "Star Wars" type of blockbuster that Disney was hoping for. That said, it has just crossed the $300 million figure and will likely top out between $350 and $400 million global. Not bad, but for it to have been the hit Burbank Suits were wanting, it would have had to come close to half a billion. Still, the merchandise is selling well, the ElecTRONica event at DCA is a HUGE hit that has been extended to April (at least) and there are still those cable, pay-per-view and DVD/Blu-Ray sales to consider.

When it all comes to a close the film will be profitable, but the question is how popular? And if that will be enough to green light another film. One thing I can tell you is that if another film comes together, John Lasseter and the Brain Trust will have much more say in the story. Rich Ross has been actively involving John in the process far more than Dick Cook ever did. He's been picking apart what the folks at the Lamp feel about much of the upcoming slate. So if we do get to go on the grid, next time you're going to see a more solid script before they start filming. From what I've heard, the animated series is still going ahead. Nothing has been stopped, no plugs have been pulled. So all you haters can hold off on your funeral for Kevin Flynn and his kin.

There may yet be another chance to ride those light cycles...
