Troy "Director's Cut"

This movie was boring and not one actor sucked me into Ancient Rome. And if Helen of Troy was the most beautiful lady in the land...dear God there must have been a bunch of uglies running around. Brian Cox, great actor, was horrible in this role, and Eric Bana was stale as a 3 month old cookie. Not the greatest of epic war movies. Not one single character was just powerful enough to save this flick for me.

Its not got my intrist cause if its gonna be directors cut it shoudl have commentary. I look for that most in dvd extended sets as the special feature.
I know its silly but if it has no commentary i will keep the original dvd release.

Well considering it isn't supposed to be about the Roman empire, I don't see the problem...

I enjoyed the film, but the Iliad and surrounding stories are my favourite literature of all time, so it naturally left a lot to be desired. There were moments of greatness though, and I hope that the extended time adds some more of the epic back into it. One of the biggest flaws was how short the time period of the movie was- what, a few weeks? Fighting only a few battles? This was the greatest war of all time, and that was a shame.

Also, the score. Can't believe they swapped out the original. So good.

I'm half-way through the Iliad and it is so good... The reason being is that its an entire culture, traditions, a world long forgotten encased in this one tale... There traditions, their stories, its all their... It truly is epic...

Is this out? I might wanna check out that 30 minutes of deleted scenes. Its probably cheaper by now anyway.

Yeah its out... I'm going pick it up tommorrow, its at Best Buy for 15...

Bwahaha :(
I still say the Hector vs. Achilles fight is one of the best american fight scenes ever.
The only flaw is that is really obvious when they cut frames to make the fight faster, but Eric and Brad didn't need the help, they were doing so good :(

Would anyone care to explain to me why they added Danny Elfman's "Planet of the Apes" score into the Hector vs. Achilles fight in the Director's Cut?

When I first watched Troy (the theatrical version), I could not keep awake. Now the director's cut is one of my favourite movies of the last ten years.

thank God! I thought I was the only one to fall asleep watching Troy!

For the star studded cast this movie was pretty lack luster IMO. Not even close to the Gladiator level. Way too formulaic. It is what it is. A pretty simple story. They should've went the mythical route to at least distinguish itself somewhat. Decent movie but the theatrical cut was long enough for me.

I wasn't a huge fan of the film really, but I loved the Hector/Achillis battle

Me too. The movie did falter at the end, and imo it could've been great but settled for merely above average. I don't see how a DC edition would elevate this movie too much, however.

I wish Hollywood would make a movie based on The Iliad someday. Troy, despite taken alot from The Iliad, has little resemblance to Homer's masterpiece. Hollywood has to realize that putting Olympic gods into a movie will not turn away moviegoers, just as superheroes dressed in spandex.
