Hell yeah, man! Awesome news. Twisted Metal: Black was sick! Can't wait to see how this turns out. These games are demented.

Agreed, definite buy for me. Along with Crash Bandicoot, Twisted Metal is the very first game I played on PS1. I've been waiting for a good PS3 version of TM, Black was a great game, and if the PS3 hardware can take the music selection, mood, and style of Black and up it then I'm sold. Also I wouldn't mind if they tossed in a bit of Twisted Metal 2 in as well. I used to mess my friends up with Axel.

Edit - Nothing major, just noticed this was bumped, reread this and remembered something. The first two games I rented for the PS1 when I very first got one was Twisted Metal 1 and Battle Arena Toushinden, not Crash Bandicoot, that's all :).

    Super mega bump.

Earlier today, David Jaffe posted an photograph of an email, detailing his upcoming, unannounced video game. It had certain areas completely blurred out, but it was an interesting read nevertheless. In fact, if you look close enough you're able to decipher the hidden text fairly accurately, enough so that Jaffe actually updated the image to have the writing blocked out even more. We're the internet, however, so we have the original image saved and posted, as well as a few reasons that we're pretty sure it's in reference to Twisted Metal PS3.

What we think is there is below, with the bold words our guesses...

    CHARACTER AND CHARACTER ANIMATION ISSUES

High concept: We need the game to have more personality and feel like an action... our human characters are a big way we are going to get that vibe. I would like to see the following... the milestone and feel it would go a long way to wowing the crowds.

#1 - ... animation of capturing him, running over him and dragging him behind your car...
#2 - ...gives him personality- right now it's so dry- needs to feel action.
a- When he is knocked out of a car and onto the ground he crawls frantically, looking... approaching cars, trying to get away, slipping as he tries to get up.

Now let's think: David Jaffe's company, Eat Sleep Play, has already sort of confirmed they're working on Twisted Metal for the PS3. These words really seem to be talking about a car game, and what better way to really enhance the Twisted Metal formula than to make it an open world game with an on-foot element? He puts an emphasis on characterization, makes specific mention to "human characters," which would imply that there are non-human characters. I'd be willing to bet we're going to see a Twisted Metal at E3 this year, and this looks to back that up a bit.

There are a few more images on his blog that are ripe for deciphering, anyone find anything we missed?

Twisted Metal is too good a franchise for Sony to just sit on.

Indeed, there was absolutely no sense in Sony letting Twisted Metal stay on the shelf console wise then they did. Hopefully details will emerge at E3

Twisted Metal Black was great but a PS3 Twisted Metal game would own it.

This would be a console-selling title. Definitely hope to see some news on it soon.

    Online play would be killer....*woot*

    This.

I can only imagine how addicting the online play would be.

Twisted Metal Black is the title that got me to buy a PS2. Im sure the same would be true for a PS3 sequel for many.

Twisted Metal World Tour was one of the first games I had for my PS1 back in the day and I still have brill memories of it. This news is wicked, been needing a new Twisted Metal game for years!

Black is still my favorite TM game. I skipped the abominations that were 3 and 4 luckily, lol. I loved 2, but Black just took on a much darker atmosphere. I really just liked the feeling of the game. I bought TM head-on extremely twisted edition for PS2 a bit back, but it just doesn't hook me like Black did (still a great buy tho, tons of stuff and a solid game for $20).

Personally, I just want them to either go with 2 or Black's formula and try not to tweak it much, just up the graphics. Too often anymore games try to reinvent themselves in sequels when the game was great in the first place.
