Marvel is taking drastic liberties with characters in 616 now. Characters are being tossed around, and new ones are coming out of the woodwork. There also seems to be a focus in bringing up older characters to our memory. Meanwhile Ultimate Marvel is becoming more and more like what 616 used to be.
Civil War seems to be Marvel's answer to all the activity at DC. But there are much more inconsistencies in the marvel stories than what's happening at DC and these changes seem to be blatant. Let's take Spider-Man for example.
Spider-Man went through The Other/Ezekiel saga and got improved powers and it seems that Peter Parker's choice to be Spider-man and the accident that caused his powers are suddenly now more of a mystical destiny thing. Not so much an accident like what has been shown for the last 40 years. He is shown as sucking up to Tony stark and acting like a Lackey even though he is like 26 and never wanted to even work with a team before. After trying to join the Fantastic Four, he decided it was better to be solo. So the things he has been doing are contrary to everything he's been doing. But then look...he even has removed his mask to the world. And is a public figure.

Is it just me or are things in Civil War mimicing things that happened in House of M?

Mutants being the main society is very different. But the core ideas are kind of merging. Aside from that, Ultimate Marvel is getting stronger and stronger. Marvel almost seems to favor that universe more than 616.

I think that Marvel is going to need to mimic DC one final time. Because of what has been happening in recent years. And an Infinite crisis of sorts may occur. Either 616 will just be destroyed and Marvel will have us just follow Ultimate....OR There will be another secret wars but something BIG. Something like Universes colliding and time stopping and all of the different dimensions merging..

616
Ultimate
Negative?
etc...etc..

Peter is not going to be married anymore. (Which would piss me off, but that's probablly what would happen) He's going to be dating MJ again. But Gwen might also be alive again as well. And he's going to be like 17 or 18. So senior year of highschool.

Jean will be alive again and the x-men will be together instead of so sporadic. With Charles leading them from behind his wheel chair.

Thor and Hawkeye will be members of the Avengers. But Nick Fury will be black.

Everything will be merged. It will be an Ultimate Fusion. Because it will be more ultimate than 616. You're probably not going to have to have read much of either to understand the storylines.

But ultimate chaos, because what we know now will be lost. And Marvel is causing it by making 616 so..."WTF". I don't even know anyone that reads 616 anymore. Everyone reads ultimate or DC that I know.

See? Marvel is drawing this idea closer. 616 is almost like reading a "What If" tale. What if Spider-man got a suit from iron man? What if Spidey removed his mask to the world? What if Eddie Brock died and Mac Gargan became Venom? What if Gwen Stacy was a **** and gave Norman a creepy O-Face?

What if Joe Queseda hated Marvel and Mary Jane?

The restart and the infinite crisis rip off is coming.

all they need to do is reorganize the history, and making a Marvel history time line showing what is cannon and what is not.

because what you forget is that even after the crisis things didn't go so smooth and there were lots of thinks that didn't pan out and needed to be fixed.

but i would like to see a year one for all the mavel heroes and teams. but just a recap of their origins and no changes.

No what they need to do is fire Queseda (out of a cannon) and get somebody who actually care about these characters. If they ever merge the 616 and Ultimate universes I'll be burning/selling every marvel comic I have.

QFT count me in on that

ChineseFooD: Dude, I've had that fear since the Ultimate line appeared... It all seems going in that direction... the Ultimate replacing the 616 as a default continuity... If that ever happens (I HOPE NOT...)All I need is to be tossed into a pit of snakes, and my worst nightmare will be a reality...

It could always be fifty times worse than it is now for Spider-Man and a lot of other regular universe characters.

Personally I think the biggest problem that the powers that be have at Marvel is that they want to desperately spark interest in their comics, characters, etc, that they seem to be trying too hard. And in that sense it's causing a lot of confusion and craziness that fans are completely mixed on, in most cases. What I feel needs to be done about a lot of concern is to step back, take a few breaths, and keep it simple, stupid.

And, no, I highly doubt that Marvel will EVER replace the regular universe with the Ultimate Universe. First of all, no matter what people seem to think of Joe Quesada around here the guy isn't dumb enough to throw away almost 50 years of history. He'll misinterpret the history and twitch it to fit his ideas for stories, but the guy isn't going to throw it away for the Ultimate Universe. Plus the fact fans would crap themselves and it'd probably be the demise of Marvel comics and the entire industry.
