Ultimate Speedball

Actually, we've already said that in this thread. Thats the point of the Ultimate Line. It's why i'm reading Fantastic Four in Ultimate format.

This of course means that i'm stuck with the LAMEST incarnation of Doom, and the thing is, like Darthsphere (lookie... i rememberd someone i'm debating with's name ) said, The ultimate line is essentially a summer blockbuster approach to story telling; it is enjoyable, but its no where near as deep as some of the stories you can find in 616.

616 Daredevil is the perfect example of a story telling master class, Ultimate Spider-Man is not.

Though you misspelled it, common mistake though.

Ultimates isn't an example of story telling master class? I don't see how you can compare it to a blockbuster summer flick and then try and say "Oh but btw 616 is more capable of depth...and has more depth" ...bull****.

btw, take note Darthwhatever, my name isn't MattFU...lol

Ultimates is awesome. It truly is. It's also an example of throwing as many pop culture references as possible into a left wing view of the world, with no balance in its views.

The thing is, 616 IS capable of more depth IMO, and that is generally because of the bigger wealth of history it can draw upon. Have you read 616 Daredevil? It is, by all accounts, AWESOME. Not in the same way as Ultimates, but in a better way (again, IMO).

Big Uber Jocks beating on monsters = Summer block buster feel (And, this isn't a criticism of it.. I think it excels at what it does)

One mans decline into darkness = deep emotional rollercoaster of a story

It has a lot of other themes than that...

btw

For the "Ultimate is just a "rehash" of the 616" argument, I'd be willing to bet that the 616 is a rehash of earlier comics and movies and other story telling devices that the writer liked a lot. They just follow the template of the storyline -- putting in their own superheroes. Big whoop. The fact of the matter is, Ultimate walks a fine line between completely betraying the source material and being too much alike. Yet, it seems to stay at a consistently centered point between those two pitfalls...

I know. I was making a grand sweeping statement. It also features spousal abuse(Wasp & Giant Man), possible mental issues(Thor), dealing with life ending diseases(Iron Man), incestuous relationships (Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch) and being stuck in an world that is alien to you(Captain America) to name a few.

In all cases however, these things are taken, amplified and indulged to the point of being pastiches of the original concept. Which is a typical Summer Blockbuster way of telling stories.

I think you've missed the part where Ultimates is one of my favourate titles:confused: I mean, I do love it. It's a LOT better than its current 616 counterpart, HOWEVER 616 Avengers written by Kurt Busiek with pencils by George Perez is a masterclass in how to tell superhero theatrics.

My main problem with the Ultimate line is that it feels a need to apologise for all of its more out there plot lines that it takes from the 616 universe. Galactus is a perfect example, and the way they re-imagined it with the Gah Lak Tus story line in the Ultimate Universe was horrible. :( :down

These stories are being told in the comics industry. Ok, I get a need for realism, but when i'm reading a story about a man in a suit of armour that flies, or someone who was frozen in ice since world war 2, I can suspend disbeleif. In someways, the realism highlights the stupidity of the central points.

Also, just to add because i'm feeling ranty, I don't like that Ultimate Spider-Man always loses his mask. Every. Frickin. Battle. I have a genuine belief that Bendis (at one of the creative meetings the big wigs at MU have) asked that he be unmasked in Civil War because he doesn't know how to write him any other way, and was getting annoyed with the constant wearing a mask in New Avengers:mad:

Sorry for the ranting, but it's like 4 am here. God it's too early for this **** :(

Back on topic, so what is Speedball's origin and how is he connected to Spiderman?

Also, we are the younger guard. Young blood means longer life...

1+1...my friend...

I consider myself to be part of the younger guard and I HATE the Ultimate Universe.
