I don't have a problem with Spidey being on a team, as long as said team is composed of heroes who (like Spidey) are young heroes who can't join the Avengers or the FF. Spidey doesn't belong on the Avengers or FF. He belongs on a team like the New Warriors. The main problem I have with this new USM team is not that Spidey is on a team, but that Spidey and his team are working for SHIELD. IMO, Spidey and his team working for SHIELD is the stupidest OOC portrayal of Spidey that I have seen in a cartoon. A much better premise of this show would have been to have Spidey and his team working for Silver Sable as her freelance special Wild Pack unit.

I'm not crazy about Spider-man being part of a team. Granted, having him cooperate with Avengers or working with Shield, or even just forming a temporary alliance with some local heroes could result in some interesting story lines. But I hate the "justice league for kids" set up (don't turn it into Young Justice). I prefer a Spider-man who is a solo hero, who occasionally and temporarily teams up with other characters.

Saw a new commercial spotlighting the whole team, few shots of everybody in action by themeselves in and out of costume.

I'm still baffled as to why Spidey is breaking the fourth wall? That's never been his thing. Narration yea, but actually breaking the fourth wall? No, that's Deadpool, not Spidey.

Just watched the preview for the first time, and here's my thoughts:

The good: It does seem to have a great deal of energy to it, and the animation looks pretty good.

The mixed bag: The humour might be something I like, but it'll be very close to the line for me. If every episode is as saturated with jokes and 4 wall breakings as the preview, then I doubt I'll like it.

The bad: The design of Peter Parker outside of the costume. I dunno, his hair just looks off to me. Also, the lack of the red parts of the sleeves. It's not the biggest problem I have with it, but it's more of an annoyance that will detract from my enjoyment of it.

Overall: I'll have to watch a couple episodes before I pass judgement on this, but I don't know how I'm gonna see it :/

There was that one time in TSSM where he broke the fourth wall.
"Aunt May and Uncle Ben didn't raise no quitters. Any quitters. You know what I mean."
:funny: Although fourth wall breaking isn't Spidey's thing, I'll be okay with it, as long as it's funny. There are times when I hate when shows break the fourth wall. For example, I love Animaniacs, but there are times when they do it too much and it's not funny at all. Also, when they point out that something is a joke, it makes it not funny.

"though I have no involvement with the upcoming Ultimate Spider-Man, you can't deny that a lot of great people have worked on it. There's no reason to think it won't be as good or better than SpecSpidey. To a certain generation, SpecSpidey will always be THEIR Spider-Man cartoon. But to a new batch o' viewers, I'm sure their Spidey of choice will be the Ultimate"

Greg Weisman.

Humble guy

Too humble. The 90s Spider-Man is technically my Spider-Man but Spec. is still miles better than that, no reason not to see it how it is. Doesn't mean I wasn't excited for this show, I was...until they actually showed the thing. It looks god-awful. I'm so disappointed...

On the same boat. The 90's show got me into Spidey, but Spectacular will always be by #1 choice.

I honestly don't mind that they are going into a more humor-based Spidey (nevermind that Spidey ALREADY is humor-based), but I would look forward to it so much more IF IT WAS ACTUALLY FUNNY. Sadly, the show seems like it has an overdose of fourth-wall humor more appropiate for She-Hulk or Deadpool, and the actual jokes seem childish.

Yeah I grew up with the 90s show and it's what also what introduced me to Spidey's world, but I'm not gonna let nostalgia cloud my judgement.

And yeah I don't think the people who were spoiled by past Spidey adaptations are gonna like that he's a teen here.(that's one of the things they'd often critcize SSM for) And I guess this could also apply to the upcoming movie as well.

I think this has the potential to be better than the 90's series, overall. The first season of the 90's series is great. Aside from the obvious problems surrounding the Hobgoblin two-parter, I think the first season is well-plotted, well-written, and the strongest in terms of character. After that, though, the series takes a rapid nosedive. I've watched the entire series before, and I tried to do it again over the summer. I've tried repeatedly to sit through the second season again, but I can't do it. The shoddy animation, bizarre story choices considering how heavy the censorship was, and increasingly outlandish plots turn me away from the remaining four seasons. I really hope they release the first season on DVD someday.

Will it be better than TSSM? I highly doubt it. TSSM is chock full of witty dialogue, adrenaline-inducing fight scenes, believable character development (something I feel the 90's series lacks over the course of the series), and thorough storylines that were obviously planned out in advance. I'm going to swallow my bitterness about its cancellation and hope USM has enough redeeming qualities to calm me down at least somewhat.

This is just a thought. Maybe Disney/Marvel should have hired Wisemen and his crew to work on the new Spider-Man series. Of course it's going to be different from TSSM, but at least people will feel better that we have a new series being produced by the same person responsible for TSSM.

Most of that crew moved on to other projects months before Ultimate Spider-Man was announced. Vic Cook was working on Scooby Doo. Weisman was developing Young Justice at WB by the time the show was announced as well.

I like him for that

I pretty much agree

If it was funny is another thing I agree with

Oh, that's right. When TSSM was on hiatus, pretty much the whole crew had to find other jobs. They couldn't just wait to find out what's going to happen with TSSM.

Totally looks like it's worth my time! The spider jumping off his chest really sold me.

**** you, Disney :(

I know it's gone forever, but this show does make me wonder why the Spectacular Spider-man never included characters from other franchises.

Sony owned the show and they didn't have the rights to use any other characters. They probably could have used Ghost Rider but that would have been about it.

So Venom is going to be in the first five episodes already? Interesting.
