Lol I told dini through his twitter that this series is not as good as it should be, i told him that it lacks drama, and the breaking the 4th wall is just way too much. And i was very polite about it. I basically summed up our negative feeling about the show.

He did not reply, but he blocked me lol

Dini is a very talented writer but I guess just like Peter Parker he made a deal with Mephisto (i.e. Joe Quesada) when he decided to write for the Ultimate Spider-man cartoon!

Bendis made great USM comics, boring Avengers, hardly read anything else of his work

Bendis had only one really good run and it was on the Daredevil
there is not even a single USM comic that is regarded as "great" by true spider-man fans
no offense, but I think sometimes you are easily impressed and entertained

HAHAHAAH
If I'm easily impressed, you should see the amount of stuff I consider junk, including Bendis's Avengers, the mediocre Watchmen, and the awful cartoon of the Ninja Turtles (the old one). I'm not easily impressed, I give a different look on what's good and what's not good

I can enjoy anything Spider-Man, even the stuff I admit is bad, and start hating it, or the stuff I know don't age well, but enjoy it for being Spider-Man
As for Ultimate Spider-Man comics, it's an alternate comic universe, an alternate take, and the writing is well handled for the most part, the updates to Peter and May are awesome, same goes for Ock's tentacles. There are of course the down moments like Magneto-lite-Ock WTF? O_o

I hate when anyone uses the phrase "only a true fan". It comes off as ignorant and arrogant. When people use that phrase its usually by people who don't know what they are talking about.

it is because of fans like you that we get crap like this Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon
Marvel knows you will enjoy "anything Spider-Man" even if you "start hating it".

I agree about arrogant and ignorant

I don't praise bad stuff, and support improvement, if I criticize something I go all out about it.
So it's not because of fans like me, it's because of -in this case- management that doesn't update their mediocre abilities in managing and delivering good stories

You don't like Ock's tentacles to shift shape their heads? Or May not being the 80 years old frail hag on the verge of dying every 10 issues?

It's because of ''fans'' like you, we end up in the emergency room with headaches from posts like that.

I'm guessing you're young, so take this advice; if you keep posting like this, you won't last long here or you'll end up on the hate train...and mister, that's not a nice train to be on.

Seriously. I actually prefer the Ultimate books to the regular Spider-man books because that is my favorite period of his life. Plus I think Bendis is a great writer. I'm not sure why he gets so much flack. His skill with storytelling is really good. I think people just don't like him when he's responsible for a major change. He can get away with that stuff in Daredevil but with stuff like Spider-man and Avengers fans start going ape****.

That and with the hate Bendis, Millar, Johns and the like get, I really think there's just a vocal minority that don't like these great writers. They are well known for a reason and that is because they sell. They're not exactly the Rob Liefelds of the writing world. They know how to construct good stories and write fluid, realistic dialogue (by realistic I mean the panels aren't taken up by a crapload of word balloons filled with exposition that could just as easily be shown).

I agree Savage, but wouldn't it have been nice if Marvel took Bendis' work and adapted it more seriously....I don't mind the show, but it could be so much better.

I'm just glad Spider-Man's film rights are with Sony. I tremble at the thought of what Marvel would do to him if this is what they do in animation. Screw the MCU and let Sony and Webb do him justice in cinema..

Spider-man has had plenty of serious adaptions. Some fun won't kill the character. As of now I find more enjoyment in this show than Avengers. But it's much easier to make some smile with a joke than with an action scene anyway so that's not fair, I guess.

True, but coming on the heels of the vastly popular SSM this slapstick/30 Rock approach doesn't help. And when you have guys like Bendis and Dini as writers, the perception by some is that their talents are being wasted with this off the wall concoction. Glad you like it though.:yay:

Guess it's a good thing I love 30 Rock then. And Scrubs and Family Guy. Guess the kind of comedy on this show falls right into my domain.

I agree that Dini is being wasted, though. Anybody can do this stuff. This is not the kind of job you hire Dini for.

Um. Spectacular Spider-Man wasn't fun?

All of this, everything in it, was much, much funnier than anything USM has produced so far:

That is both fun and funny. Just two different styles of it with these shows. I guess it helps that I haven't watched all of Spectacular Spider-man. Never woke up early enough to watch it. The episodes I caught were at random when nothing else was on. Just waiting on Netflix now like I did with Wolverine And The X-men.

He really blocked you?!

thanks for the advice bro.
I just expressed my views so dont worry about me ending up on the hate train
besides, I' d rather get on that train when a crappy show like Ultimate Spider-Man comes around than praise mediocrity
by the way, I bet I am older than you and probably most of the people who post here!

I am still scratching my head trying to figure out how what you just said relates to what I said before.

By the way, I love Aunt May to be "80 years old frail hag on the verge of dying every 10 issues" as long as they give me great moments like this:

Besides, if you have any doubts regarding the effectiveness and significance of an Aunt May in the spider-man books, then you haven’t read any Amazing Spider-Man comic by JMS.

I also have a couple of questions to pose to all these Ultimate Universe fans: if Ultimate spider-man is so damn hot why did it have to be re-launched after only 133 issues? Why doesn’t it sell even half the Amazing Spider-man these days? huh?
And apart from Venom and his back story which was handled better by Bendis (and was handled even better by the Spectacular Spider-man) what aspect of the spider-man mythos has been done better by the Ultimate spider-man?

I disagree that the USM comics Venom was handled better in Ult. Marvel (best spin was Spider-Man TAS 90s IMO)...

Anyway, since you're asking, I did like Ultimate Ock and his origins more than contemporary (I don't like him having Magnetic powers, but it would be almost 10 years later before THAT was revealed), I loved Osborn's having close ties to Spider-Man AND Ock's origins, I actually liked Kraven being a mutate (IMO, remember...) and (I...M...O) Ultimate Aunt May >>> 616 Aunt May.

She's suppose to be Aunt May, not Grandma May.

Case in point:

"Oh, dear. You look so pale. You really oughta take a sweater. I worry about you. Are you eating right? Nonsense. I baked cookies! Now you sit your tookish right on down and have a bite to eat. Oh, God! MY HEART!!!"

The Spectacular Spider-Man actually WAS on Netflix, but it was pulled. The digital rights are in some kind of licensing pit of dispair right now, so I would suggest not waiting for them to resurface on Netflix and watch the series through other means.

Just to clarify, I don't think the Ultimate books are better then the 616. I agreed with Savage about Bendis being a great writer and taking more crap then necessary at times. But I do like the Ultimate May characterization and the Ultimate Venom origin better.
