Even some people in Marvel itself seem to think Thor's powers come from his hammer. In the latest avengers assemble episode Hawkeye (i think) says Thor without his hammer is like Iron man without his Armour

Avengers Assemble being the same show that describes Tony as being a 'born leader' not Cap.

Hulk and Iron Man are, in the GA's perception, like that Chuck Norris money joke;

"If Hulk stopped one Leviathan and Thor stopped one Leviathan, Hulk stopped more Leviathans."

and

"If Captain America made a good call, and Iron Man made a good call, Iron Man made a better call."

*pfft spit*

Why though? Lol

You know, aside from having to yet see him do things like "God Blasts" or summoning Lightning without the usage of his hammer...there's one other thing that I REALLY hope that that MCU establishes before Chris's time as Thor is done.

That is Thor's ability to open up portals and travel throughout the nine realms with his hammer as opposed to always relying on Heimdell for that.

This may happen if Thor get's the Odin Force in Ragnarok. It would come in handy during the Infinity Wars 1 & 2 as well.

Yeah Thor isn't going to suddenly be able to open up portals that would appear to be a plot hole, so it could/would only happen if we visibly see Thor get an upgrade in powers

What I'm most curious about is how they even GIVE Thor the Odin force. In the comic, he gets a portion because his arm is broken and Odin helps heal him with it then dies killing Surtur.
Thor not having any of this yet, may still have some type of Trial to go through on Asgard to gain those powers, MAYBE we do see some of that in AoU but after he's gone back to Asgard. I can't see them just not have Thor in the last half of the film at all

:shr: Odin does not have this power in the Marvel movie world..
Odin required Heimdell to transport him to the Frost Giants Realm in the first Thor movie..so I don't look for this to happen...

Odin was nearing his Odin Sleep in the first film, he was clearly weakened the whole movie.

yeah but we have NO idea where he's at. All we KNOW is that Loki's taken his place

So Thor can now channel lightning through his body without Mljonir?

In the comics he didn't NEED Mjolnir for that. It was shown a few times that he could throw lightning bolts. where did you hear he did this in the film? it's a first to me.
As mentioned above, he also had an energy bolt from his God force BEFORE Mjolnir and even the Odin Force.

Well it looks like he can in that second trailer. The lightning is going through his whole body and he doesn't seem to have Mljonir when that happens.

I'm not as familiar with Thor from the comics, but if he could always channel lightning from is body without using his hammer then why does he even need to use the weapon in the first place?

He uses Mjolnir to direct and channel different powers/abilities. Its basically always been like that.

i agree. Why would odin risk what power he did have to transport himself to thors location when he knew a battle might occur, if he did we would have too question his intellgence as a king with thousands of yrs of battle experience.

The hammer is a powerful tool that can enhance his powers. If you had a weapon that can do that you would be crazy not to use it, but it doesnt mean he cant project and control the weather without it bc he can.

Well, he can in the comics. I don't blame the GA for thinking otherwise based on the films. Hopefully AoU and Thor: Ragnarok show him off better.

Yeah if I knew nothing about the comics whatsoever, I'd assume Thor is tough and pretty strong, and that his actual powers-the lightning, tornadoes, and flying- I'd assume came from the hammer

hopefully they rectify that so the GA knows what we all already do

Yeah Mjolnir in the comics is more or less a tool to help focus his powers.
One story has the Warriors three recalling Thor as a kid having a nightmare and the thunder and lightning was just all over. They had to hit him to wake him up out of the nightmare. lol

Look up Thor Blood Oath. It's about Thor having to go through a challenge to save the Warriors Three WITHOUT USING MJOLNIR.

Now if only we can get Kevin Feige or the next director of Thor to read it, then maybe they would actually should Thor channeling his powers without Mjolnir. :shr:

I want to see that too. But that may be a tall order.
