Like the Clone Saga thread, No bashing the unmasking in this thread.
Besides me, who else likes the fact that this is being done?

I have absolutely no problem with this, it's something new being done with the character other than a cliche costume change.

I actually knew about this months ago, I assumed other people did too. I didn't know people were going to be this ridiculous about it.

But my only question is this: How does this benefit Peter Parker the man behind the mask? How does this enhance the popularity of Spider-Man the misunderstood superhero? How can this be a GOOD thing? Please, someone explain this to me. I hope my questions aren't viewed as being negative, or bashing.

I'm willing to see what stories come out of it. Can't turn out worse stories than when they let Todd Mcfarland script him. I'm for it.

i really am looking forward to seeing where this story is headed.

Since when have any events in Peter Parkers life benefited him? He's always been hard done by - more often that not through his own actions.

In terms of enhancing his popularity, (in the Marvel universe) people have a face and name to go with the superhero identity. People who's life he has saved now have a person to thank. In the real world - from my own observations, people are talking about Spider-man 'coming out' and some have decided to read the new issues and buy back issues to catch up. A certain amount of bandwagoning, but i'm sure that's exactly what JQ wants.

As for how this can be a good thing... well, that depends on the writing. And also the fact that there is now a whole new avenue of storylines involving his public identity which previously just were not possible. But i'm sure we all know (and if some don't then you will in a second) that the second Civil War is finished, Spidey's identity will become secret again.

Make no mistake, this is a carefully marketed ploy to get the internet and other media abuzz and guess what, it's working. But as soon as Spidey's public identity stops causing waves it'll go back under wraps. Panic over. Disaster averted. Go about your business.

Move along.

Move along!

I support the un-masking.

Started reading Civil War because of it. Excited for issue 3.
Where will they pick up the press conference? ASM? Or Civil War?

pretty sure you'll see the next moments in ASM

Dan Slott told me he gets to cover JJJ's reaction in She-Hulk, so check there, too

i support it as long as its temporary

I should point out this isn't the first time this story has been done. Something many over reactors are ignoring.

I wasn't strongly opposed to the heros unmasking TO THE GOV'T. Makes sense, and its probably how things would be in real life. But why are all the heros unmasking at press conferences? Couldn't Pete just have told SHIELD or someone instead of the whole world? It will be very interesting to see what comes of this....especially considering the cover to Civil War #5

Also this is just a precursor to drive away MJ or have her killed.

Can't they let peter be happily married?!

He did it because Tony asked him to, because he wants Spider-Man to PUBLICLY show his support for registration to encourage other heroes to register as well.

As long as its temporary, I'm okay with it. I don't agree with the reasons he did it for, it seems he just totally ignored the fact doing this could lead to his familes death, but it'll be interesting to see what they do to the character.

true but his family live in the same tower as the sentry.

Its actually the best time to do this when they are so well protected.

So, its true, Civil War is going to be one of the most relevant events in the history of comics...

I like the idea of registration, I think it's an interesting story, and a practical evolution of how superheroes would really function in a society. I'll be much more upset if it gets taken back at the end of this

I'm always open to seeing new things done with a character. Who here hasnt wondered what would happen if Peter's ID were exposed? He has worried and fretted over this very possibility since Amazing Fantasy #15, and since I dont remember it ever actually happening (in what issues has this been done before, gildea?) I'm curious to finally see what would happen. After a while, a person will stop caring if Norman Osborn or Venom or whoever will expose Peter's ID, because we know it will never happen.

Oh and as long as Loki does his thing and makes all of this go away after its all said and done, all the better.

I honestly think that they will let the unmaskings be. I doubt they will retract it because the cause of the retraction would have to be stupid. What keeps nagging at me is the memory of house of m...there was a something that slapped the marvel universe back in the face.

I have no problem with this myself. They're actually doing something new with the character. I mean, if we expect to get any good stories, we can't demand them to be the same stuff over and over again.

I've never wanted Spidey's I.D. to be revealed. When I heard the rumor of it happening during Civil War I was majorly against it (though I'm not a complainer, so I never said it here). I saw the end of Amazing Spiderman 532 and wondered if they'd go through with it... then as I read Civil War 2, I found myself enjoying the lead up and found myself really happy about the reveal (JJJ's reaction helped :)). Now I find myself extatic that it happened and I really want it to stick. The stories that can come from this are just huge, and I can't wait to read them. I don't think I've been so excited over spidey since I stopped reading him regularly after they retconned the clone saga. So yeah, I'm totally for this and am excited to see where this goes.

And I have a feeling judging by issue 2's ending, and the cover to Civil War 5, the villains are going to do just as everyone feared and they're going to go after Parker. My guess is that this will end with either MJ's death, or their separation for her own safety.

And by the way, I'm not a normal She-Hulker, but I am totally getting the reaction to JJJ!
