Universal Monsters

I'd love to see another House of... film where they all fight each other. That's my new dream movie ever since Justice League became an uninteresting reality.

House of...Monsters
"A mummy seeks relief with moisturizer, trying to regain the vitality of his youth to impress a special lady."

Okay. But again, what is that building toward? I just don't see any goal/end-game for this shared universe.

That said, I think it'll be a moot point. I think The Mummy is going to underperform (if not outright bomb), effectively killing the Universal Monsters shared universe.

I would guess they are going to introduce each monster, in his/her solo film and slowly build the endgame towards them taking sides and fighting it out in a final film.

Yeah I kinda agree here.

MonsterVerse builds towards Godzilla vs Kong
MCU built towards Avengers
DCEU built toward JL

This (what are we calling this universe? Kong and Godzilla already have MonsterVerse coined) builds towards what? What is the event? Hyde vs Dracula vs The Mummy vs The Bride of Frankenstein vs The Invisible Man vs The Creature from Black Lagoon? Are they gonna go the lame route and have some of the monsters be good and some of them be bad and have them fight?*

I think they kinda missed some gold opportunities/made some bad decisions with making this shared universe.
1. Van Helsing shouldve been the Nick Fury/connective tissue not Dr. Jekyll like I hear they're doing
2. They should've made this more horror-esque. I dont mean straight up R rated horror films, but not generic looking films like Dracula Untold and The Mummy. We already have 2 superhero shared universes, about to have 3 with X-Men if you count that and we have a kaiju universe. A darker, sub $100 mill budget, more sinister action series featuring all these classic monsters would be a lot cooler than what it looks like we're getting now
3. They should've made these movies period pieces. I just think these classic monsters work in a period setting rather than modern times
4. Should've gotten real talent to kick this off. Alex Kurtzman has directed 1 movie that flopped at the box office, didn't make a huge critical impact, and was forgettable. Why is he directing the movie that is supposed to start this universe
5. As Matt said, what are they building toward? What will be the plot of this crossover that inevitably will happen? It just seems like a shared universe just to have it. You're wasting money on all these major stars and to me it just seems like theyre flopping in the wind.

Now I think The Mummy 2017 looks decent but I dont imagine it being that successful to keep on with this franchise. I could be wrong, but I dont see a long bright future for this universe

*EDIT: I forgot Wolfman. So itll be Wolfman vs Hyde vs Dracula vs The Mummy vs The Bride of Frankenstein vs The Invisible Man vs The Creature from Black Lagoon
Am I missing anyone?

I'm really hooing this shared universe works. I want to see all these monsters share the screen.

But like many have said, who will they fight? That intrigues the hell out of me.

Universal definitely weren't looking at that movie whatsoever when they decided the infamous Kurtzman should take a crack at this. Him and Orci probably have enough clout in Hollywood by now.

They will form two opposing groups ?

Dr. Jekyll's group and Dracula's group, I wonder where Mummy will fit into all this ?

My take on it is that the original team up films weren't very good. I watched House of Frankenstein last night and it's so schlocky. They don't have a super high bar to hit. Granted, the solo monster films from the 30's and 40's still hold up and are masterpieces, but the team ups were never stellar.

Well, if the popular (if not outright obvious) rumor that Tom Cruise will end up being the Mummy of this shared universe is true, I wonder how they spin it with him being a protagonist or antagonist. I see good reasons for both.

Clout as writers and producers =/= clout as directors. So bad move on their part

He'll lead the "good" group of monsters

Christ that sounds lame

I agree. The further up the tentpole stage, clout as writers and producers tend to be > clout as directors.

If they were smart, they would just have all this lead up to a remake of The Monster Squad. Haha. I wish.

LOL.

My sister said the same thing the other night during the trailer when we were at the movies.

Universal Sets 'Bride of Frankenstein' for 2019 http://thr.cm/r6xbVl

Universal has set a date for Bride of Frankenstein, and debuted the first photo of the stars it has assembled for a its shared universe, the newly titled Dark Universe.

Bride of Frankenstein, from director Bill Condon, will open Feb. 14, 2019.

I wonder if Javier Bardem is playing the Doctor or the Monster? I'd imagine he's the monster, no?

Edit: I see he's playing the Monster. Cool choice. I wonder who his bride will be?

That video was amazing. I ****ing love all those monsters. I'm glad they're coming back. I really am.

Same. Watching that video was like being blasted back to my childhood. I just want these new iterations to be as good as can be. *fingers crossed*

I'm such a sucker for them that Universal would really, really, really have to **** the bed to get me to not be hyped.

The pic indicates that Sofia will remain The Mummy. Could open up the possibility of Tom Cruise as

either Van Helsing or a descendant of Dracula.

Setting him up as a Van Helsing would be best. They'll give him some powers in The Mummy so he can stand toe to toe with the monsters. Dumb, I know, but as long as we get to keep Boutella as the Mummy I'm happy.
