Universal Monsters

Can't watch the video I'm at work. Do they say what the universe is building toward? What the end game is?

I'm such a sucker for them that Universal would really, really, really have to **** the bed to get me to not be hyped.

Indeed. While The Mummy may possibly be underwhelming, so long as all of the films going forward are great, all will be forgiven.

And I also agree about Cruise being Van Helsing. Imo, that'd be a better fit than having him be a descendent of Dracula. Though the latter option wouldn't be all bad if they decided to go down that route.

So they tease the Creature from the Black Lagoon but we haven't heard a thing about when it will be re-made.

The video is just a sizzle reel of their monster movies from the past. Nothing about the future of the franchise or film universe. Just clips from the classics.

We haven't heard anything about Dracula yet either, or the Wolfman, but we can be sure they're coming.

I am curious, given the video, if we'll get Monsterverse Phantom of the Opera.

Welp I hope it all works out. They have serious acting talent behind it.
But I just don't have much faith nor do I see the point of connecting all these creatures. I understand remaking them but bring them all together is

I've been saying it for awhile, but that is what I want the most out of this whole thing.

A straight-faced, dramatic, non-musical, modern day take of The Phantom of the Opera has the potential to be amazing. Part romance, part mystery/thriller with elements of horror, it would be a film that doesn't need to be a blockbuster action film, nor would it command a huge budget.

Whether this comes to fruition as a part of this new Universal Monster universe or as it own standalone film, this needs to happen sooner or later.

I wonder if, perhaps, we don't get a team up movie. The films all exist in the same universe, but they don't do the Avengers thing and come together in the end. It's just clear they all exist with Prodigium being the umbilical cord. They don't have to team up.

Then why have them all connected. Whats the point of having them in the same universe then?

Marketing? Shared universes are all the rage these days. I'm just as interested as anyone about how and why they'll team up. What's the big bad or reason for them to come together? Dracula seems an obvious choice, but there's been no word on him.

I will say that I'm glad they pushed the next film in the universe out till 2019. They're not rushing things. That's good. I'd hate to see them slap a bunch of monster movies together hastily and have this blow up in their face.

The Bride of Frankenstein before Frankenstein? Or are they not making a Frankenstein movie at all?

This seems stupid.

They're probably combining them. I'm ok with that. The stories do kind of go hand in hand. I'd say that Frankenstein's Monster is alive and well before Bride even begins and it'll be the story of Frankenstein demanding a mate or some such. Who knows. Either way, they can combine Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein comfortably. Hell, the original movies hover around 70 minutes a piece I think. You could almost edit them together into one film.

It makes sense. You know how played out telling Batman's or Spider-man's origins are? Take that up a thousand notches with the Frankenstein story.

That video got me hyped. Also hyped up for a classic movie collection. Make it happen!!!

Personally, after they get the solos out of the way, I would prefer combos, ala Dracula vs Frankenstein, than a full ensemble team up.

PS: Nerd nit picking, Monsterverse is WB's Godzilla and King Kong playground.

Already exists. They put out a "greatest hits" collection on blu ray a few years ago with all the core classics and recently they've been putting out collections on blu ray. They've done all the Frankenstein films, Wolfman films and Mummy films thus far. I think Dracula got a DVD collection release along those same lines, but I haven't seen a blu ray release of it yet. Next pay day I'm gonna pick up the Mummy collection. Best Buy has it on sale and it has a coupon for $8 a ticket to see the new Mummy movie. Not a bad deal if you ask me.

Still calling that the Kaijuverse just as I will call this the Monsterverse.

Tbh the longer it goes without any word on Dracula the happier I will be. It shows that they are taking care this time around.

My thoughts are two fold:

Much like Crowe, they don't think Bardem needs a standalone in the immediate to establish the character. As long as the character is written well, they're probably not wrong.

My second thought is that they want a nice balance in the line up with the Bride and Amunet representing the women. In terms of making that a reality, a Bride of Frankenstein film is probably more important to make than a Frankenstein one.

Alternatively, and this is my imagination running wild at this stage, perhaps the monster and his bride will be on opposing sides by the time it all comes together. It's a story that gives them plenty of avenues to explore and use to weave a greater story out of It.

Anyway....I like how the cast is shaping up though Johnny needs to prove himself now.

I wonder if we'll see more of Mary Shelley's book in this adaptation of Frankenstein or if it'll skew heavily towards James Whales films?

Javier Bardem is Frankenstein's monster. So that character will be making an appearance soon.

Nice heels Cruise Boutella.

Theyll probably do their own new thing the same way theyve done something different with the Mummy rather than sticking to the original film. Im hoping Frankenstein's monster will be more like the monster in Penny Dreadful.

From the looks of the sizzle reel we'll be getting Phantom of the Opera dan The Brides of Dracula in sizable rolls. Also spotted Creature, Wolf Man, Dracula, Frankenstein, Bride, and Invisible Man. Could be interesting!
