I'm not sure the Mummy can still be considered secondary, considering the success of the past few films, if they follow the action adventure elements of the past films but with a slightly more serious tone and a better plot than the last two, it could easily atract more money than Dracula.

I'd rather they not go another action-adventure route with the Mummy.

I agree about adding more horror elements, but the original Mummy film was very influenced by Dracula, even taking some plot points, then the other 4 films that resolved around Karis went into a more adventurous road with some comedy here and there, a type of film that was popular and would later inspire Indiana Jones, which would in turn inspire the Stephen Sommers Mummy films, so the series realy fits in that mold.

There are other properties that work better in Horror than Mummy, i would like to see it being more serious than the films they made in the past, but i don't think getting out of the adventure genre is a mistake.

You mean Dracula, right?

I'd rather see something closer to the slow-burning original than action adventure, but that's me.

Yeah, my bad. I think other properties are better fitting for that slow-burning pace, the Mummy can open other doors.

So would this idea be combining Adam from I, Frankenstein and Dracula from Dracula Untold?

Cuz I kind of like that idea.

I, Frankenstain's not from Universal, fortunately, if that thing had a crossover it would have been with the Underworld film series.

I, Frankenstein crossed with Underworld. If there was ever a movie hell, that would be it. Yikes!

It's such a shame to see Bill Nighty draged into films like Underworld and I, Frankenstein, he definitely deserves better than that.

I thought I, Frankensteinwas Universal. My mistake.
I thought it was alright, though I'm more excited for Dracula Untold. Would Universal be using that version of Dracula in their meet up though?

Was anything mentioned about the UMCU at Comic-Con?

Dracula, Wolfman, Frankenstein's monster and Mummy to team up against evil? Aren't they the true definitions of evil horror? What could possible be worse than them? And more dangerous???
Something so powerful that require all of these mighty beings to get together, would it be Satan? Or an high tech alien attack? Or something from greek mythology?
Anyway, I like the concept with solo films with individual tones/plots, then a team up.

I had this big post explaining how i would like to see some quality Universal Horror films trying to run for the big prizes instead of just the box office but it unfortunately got deleted before i posted it :(

I also talked about films like Wolfman and Mummy needing to look at the source materials for Dracula, Frankenstein and phantom of the opera, and try making as good a script. Also wouldn't mind seeing a Van Helsing: London Assignment type of film serving as a sequel to a Mr Jeckyl and Mr.Hyde film.

Maybe a teenage witch or Jughead?

this Mummy movie set in modern times sounds like a piece of ****.

The thing that has always separated the Universal monsters from the rest of the pack was the sympathy card. With the exception of Dracula. Whether it was Lugosi/Chaney Jr.?/Carradine, the Count was always evil incarnate. The other Universal monsters were always played for pathos and therefore identifiable for the audience. Frankenstein's monster (abandonment issues, misunderstood by those pitchfork wielding humans), the Wolf Man (good guy cursed by fate), the Mummy (looking for his lost love after sacrificing everything for her), the Creature (beauty and the beast and humanity encroaching on HIS space) are all "humanized" and not just evil for the sake of it like Freddy and Michael and Jason (ok maybe he gets a little break) and Pinhead, etc. Even the Invisible Man (well meaning scientist driven crazy by his work) and the Phantom of the Opera (beauty and the best again) work into Universal's paradigm/

I hope they don't lose that aspect in these new films. Even Dracula. He's easily done as a sympathetic character (the forlorn vampire in Bram Stoker's Dracula and the hen-pecked husband in Van Helsing). I don't claim its easy to pull off, but it is possible! Lol

I've always loved Monster Rally filns, and the Universal Monsters are the greatest array of creatures ever put on the screen. So I'm hoping for the best without losing the essence of the characters.

The plot could be that they hear that Steven Sommers is about to make more Van Helsing/Mummy movies and they form a pressure group to lobby against them being made.

Dammit.

Am I the only person who liked Van Helsing? :csad:

I enjoyed it for what it was, i actualy liked Stephen Sommers, i think he was much better than the likes of Liebesman and Jon Chu, with the exception of G.I.Joe it seemed like there was passion for what he was doing, i liked the look and style in Van Helsing, just wish the script had been better.

I enjoyed parts of Van Helsing but they really f****ed up their potential of an amazing movie.

They certainly did. Seriously, how do you **** up the Universal monsters?
