Universal Monsters

Tom Cruise being involved in the reboot makes my interest in the Universal Monsters cinematic universe go from a 1 to a 10. Dead serious. Cruise simply being attached brings a gravitas to this whole deal. They're not going to make a movie of Dracula Untold's caliber now. We can expect at least a decent film now which can officially launch this thing up. It also makes other high caliber actors more likely to join than before the announcement.

Maybe Cruise is still interested, just not for the Mummy due to time restraints. Cruise and Jolie though do show that they are taking this pretty seriously.

Tom Cruise being attached to the Mummy is really, really good news. His personal life is kind crackers to me, but I love Tom Cruise on screen, and he also legitimizes what Universal is trying to do. Hopefully this all goes through and we get some rad Monster movies.

I like Tom Cruise in the movies, but he doesn't need to be the Mummy. He needs to be the protagonist, as it would allow Cruise to do what he does best in his movies: fight, run and ride a motorcycle. He can only do one of those if he plays The Mummy.

Cruise doesn't need another franchise. He's Ethan Hunt. That's his superhero franchise, although it does not hurt to see his name attached to the film.

I'd like to see them not whitewash the mummy.

Man, getting Cruise is kinda awesome. Any details of what the exact plan is for a modern Monsters series? Surely they're going to just use the name Universal Monsters as the brand?

Universal Monsters - The Mummy
Universal Monsters - Bride of Frankenstein
Universal Monsters - Wolf Man

Etc.

Oh I highly, highly doubt he'll play the Mummy. The report I read said they're still looking for someone to play the Mummy and are even considering a female Mummy this time around.

I think that he'll probably play the protagonist who's fighting against/opposing The Mummy.

I would imagine so. That title has strong brand recognition. It has 80 years worth behind it.

Lol. Now I'm picturing the mummy and cruise chasing each other on ducati's

80 million dollar opening for sure

The original Universal horror series of the 30s were good because they emphasised the supernatural aspects of the monsters.

I want them to get back to the basics - scary monsters and brave and clever but not superhuman protagonists.

Actually, I would like to see them make a film (or miniseries) of Elizabeth Kostova's The Historian.

If they recast Dracula, I'd like to throw Brad Dourif's name into the mix.

Great character actor, and with his long hair and thick moustache he bears a strong resemblance to Dracula's description in the book.

We all know who they need to cast as Dracula.

I want the Vampire of Alcatraz and Tommy Wiseau is the only man who can play it.

I'd be down for that.
