Mads Mikkelsen + bushy moustache = Dracula.

Just cast Dwayne Johnson as a former special forces operative who makes a pact with Satan to become a vampire so he can get revenge on the terrorists who wiped out his platoon. Call it Rockula.

Box office gold.

He'd go to hell and back for his men.

This summer

He'll do just that.

Elizabeth Debicki would make a good Bride of Frankenstein.

Jack Griffin aka The Invisible Man

So are we going to get any actual horror films out of this or is it just going to be contemporary action schlock?

Thread has been taken over by the same questions being asked. You are not being witty or original in questioning what genre is at play here or what universe is ripping off another.

The tone of the film has been questioned since the first trailer, by myself included. The last trailer released buoyed me however as it definitely had some classic horror elements there.

No-one truly knows what they've done here so it's best just to sit back and watch what happens. I really want this universe to work, but if they have made a hollow film I'll be the first to slate them.

And its going to continue to happen until these questions are answered so I would make peace with it now.

Universal is making blockbuster films out of these Monsters. They'll be blockbusters with a horror flavor, but they won't be pure horror. While horror might be profitable on VOD and if done right, these monsters aren't going to make the money Universal wants with the budgets they require if they don't make blockbusters out of them. It's sad, but true. I'm just thankful the Monsters are getting some time in the spotlight.
