Vegas shooting

The brother said he was in shock and last spoke to his brother a few weeks ago.

How soon everyone forgets -

On July 22, 2011.....Anders Behring Breivik killed 77 people in NORWAY https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anders_Behring_Breivik

This is true, but the US still far outstrips any other country in terms of gun violence.

Now, will these kinds of people stil find ways to attack others? Yes, they will, but using that as an argument to not implement better gun control is rather silly. And it’s the only issue we act this way towards. You don’t hear “people will always speed, why have speed limits? People will always drink and drive, why have laws against it?”

Because we know that putting restrictions in place will at least make it harder for these types of things to happen, and that in and of itself saves lives.

I dunno why everyone is acting surprised as if this isn’t something our country hasn’t already accepted as a normal thing and not worth doing anything about. I mean, the Sandy Hook shooting had how many murdered children? And yet still nothing was done to prevent this from happening again.

Spoiler alert: this is going to happen again.

Of course it will happen again. We Americans just love our guns. :(

58 dead

500+ in the hospital :(

The question that should be asked is -

Are more guns making everyone secure ?

err, statistics have already answered that question.

Apparently the rumor mill is that he was affiliated with Antifa as is his girlfriend, but it's speculation. I really hope not because you know who will have a field day.

I've seen a few people claim he was a leftist with zero proof.

When I ask for a source, the person never replies.

I doubt he was antifa, from what I read he worked for a major defense contractor at some point (forgot which one, I think Lockheed)

It really doesn't matter what his political leanings are (were). Using someone being center, right or left as a political statement when something like this happens is the worst, lowest form of opportunism (and I've seen someone from just about every political persuasion do it). The ONLY time, I would say it is justified is if the group that you belong to has a stated political agenda that coincides with abhorrent acts. There are people on the left who are frelling CRAZY (believe me) and I'm sure the same can be said for those on the right. If there are 1 million people who profess to follow a particular ideology of any sort, I can promise you that at least a few of them are people you want to stay as far away from as possible.

The very first thing that crossed my mind (beside the feeling of repulsion) when I heard about this was "What kind of person wakes up in the morning and says to themselves 'Hey, I've got a good idea.......'"

Definitely need stricter gun control laws.

At least on automatic weapons surely something has to change. Not sure why those would ever be needed by civilians. One person can cause so much carnage otherwise. Also noone should be allowed more than one gun and maybe ammo should be limited to 1 clip.

Tragedy determines public policy. After 9-11, there were drastic changes to foreign and domestic policy. That's just the way it is.

And let's not play the "both sides" game. One side uses the shooter's Muslim identity to unfairly persecute millions of Muslims and the other to point out "see, white, right wingers can be terrorist too but we don't unfairly persecute millions of Christians and right wingers or ban them. Let's treat Muslims the way we want to be treated."

I think this is a fair and much needed point.

Hmm let's see.
Gunman is dead. Check.
The world pays lip service to the victims. Check.
Americans fight online about gun control. Check.
The president tweets something. Check.
Nothing changes. Check.
Lather, rinse, repeat.

Yup. Just another sad blip in the news cycle.

Just wondering, does Norway have other similar cases before and after this incident?

No. None. And people keep mentioning this incident during arguments over gun control. It's ridiculous.

You know, we blame congress, but this is really our fault. The whole reason nothing is going to happen or change is because after Sandy Hook, we begged for change, and then when it came time to vote, we reelected all of these *******s back into their seats. This is on us.

Definitely shouldn't sell automatic weapons. There needs to be stricter wait times for firearms and more detailed screening processes. I personally have owned guns in the past and hunted a bit. I can still see the value of concealed carry and home protection.
