For as long as I can remember I have always liked the vigilante type character and since Venom is a vigilante I would've loved to have seen him get a movie. For nearly two years now I've had this idea for what I think would be the perfect Venom movie but I can't decide on what it should be rated. Since movies like Death Wish and Cobra are the movies that inspired my idea I was shooting for the R rating. But since he is a Spiderman character giving his movie an R rating would hurt the film because that would mean that most of the younger audiences out there wouldn't get to see it.

Alright spidergirl sorry for not mentioning the question earlier, I was wondering if Venom got a movie should it be rated PG-13 or R? I have to be honest a lot of me leans toward the R rating.

I can actually see Carnage in a PG-13 movie. PG-13's limits are pretty wide, I mean look at POTC2, that had some bad jokes and throat slashing. Maybe it's because I'm a girl, but as long as they imply something is happen, with a splash of blood here and there I think it would work. So to answer the thread starters question, PG-13.

well if that stupid Carnage was in it then yes it would be rated-R

I'm not a fan of Carnage so no I wouldn't put Carnage anywhere near this project. I can understand why people would want a PG-13 rating but theres a number of reasons why I shoot for the R rating. For one thing just look at Venom,(whether it was PG-13 or R)children would be terrified if they saw that on the big screen in other words I don't want to put up with irresponsible parents. Also anyone who has read Lethal Protector and Funeral Pyre know that those two comics focus on vigilantiism. Spiderman is considered a vigilante as well but unlike Venom he doesn't kill his enemies. I wasn't going to go too over the top on the violence but I would have scenes where Venom punches holes through his victims, crushes their heads with his hands, and I would even have him use his webbing to grab and slam bad guys face first into walls or telephone poles. My overall plot idea for the film would be about how Venoms killing sprees end up making Spiderman the number one suspect when police notice webbing at the scene of each crime. The reason why Venom wouldn't be a suspect right away is because the authorities won't know about his existance right off the bat. I wouldn't go too far into Eddie Brocks origin but people would see enough of it to get an idea.

Hmm...the implications of a solo Venom flick.....not bad.

With how much special effects have improved over the years now would be the perfect time to do a live action Venom flick however with all the bad decisions Hollywood makes I wouldn't want them touching this project nowadays. Plus all the people I wanted to see involved in making this movie are either dead or too old. And another thing I wouldn't use the Venom from Ultimate Spiderman.

If it's a Spin-Off from the movies, then the general populace would already know who Venom was. Because at the end of '3' he causes such a big ruckus.

Actually this isn't a spin off from any of the movies. In fact I've had this idea for a couple years now. My film idea would borrow plot elements from Lethal Protector, and just a few from Funeral Pyre. The first couple parts of the movie would have the Death Wish affect where the police don't know that Venom is the vigilante.

I heard the same question a few times already, Spider-Man 3 will be Rated PG-13 for intense action/violence and some frightening sequences. If they made a Venom movie it would probally be the same rating.

This idea would only work if it was like straight to DVD, becuase in the theatre it would throw alot of movie goers off I think.

I'm not saying that this movie doesn't run the risk of going straight to DVD but keep in mind movies like Baby Geniuses and Sharkboy and LavaGirl got released in theatres.

If Venom got a movie nowadays yes it most likely would've gotten a PG-13 rating. However if it was done in the same style of movies like Punisher, (1989)Death Wish, and Cobra it would've gotten an R rating.

I hope you don't think I am trying to ruin your idea, I was just stating whatever popped in my head :p

Oh no you're cool I was just telling(my idea)it like it is. I know for a fact that my vision will never hit the big screen so I figured the best I could do was share my idea with many other comic fans like yourself.

It wouldn't be Rated anything, since a Venom movie wouldn't steal from Lethal Protector or Death Wish.
Besides, Carnage should be seen in at least a sequel to a Venom movie, when Eddie is busted out by the symbiote and Kletus gets part of it, becoming carnage.
Bad movie idea.
Failure.

I just said that Carnage wouldn't be in the first project I never said anything about not bringing him in for the sequels. This movie would borrow plot elements from Lethal Protector because the viewers would see the movie through Venoms eyes. And in case you weren't already aware Lethal Protector is a Venom comic so it wouldn't be considered stealing if I'm trying to make a Venom movie like a Venom comic. I mentioned Death Wish because both Lethal Protector and Death Wish both depict vigilantiism.

Ok, now we're talkin'.
I wasn't aware that Lethal protector was a Venom series.
I saw it in the comic shop once or twice, but never really gave it a second look. Go figure.
Now it makes more sense.
This is starting to sound like a pretty good movie.
However, they gotta fix the graphics with Venom, first.
He never had Spidey markings on his suit.

Believe me if I was running the show Venom definately would not have had Spidey markings on his suit. Sorry to repeat myself but I wouldn't use the Eddie Brock/Venom from Ultimate Spiderman because I would want to do a Venom movie that people could take seriously. Another thing Industrial Light and Magic(I.L.M.)would've done the special effects.

the idea kinda sounds corny.
I say just let him have his moment in spidey 3 then maybe as the main baddy in the future

At least we're on the same page, here. I never really cared for Ultimate Spiderman. And Eddie looked like a bisexual druggie. None of the characters look like they're supposed to, and most of 'em have completely different origins.
The Symbiote costume was definately not made by Eddie and peters fathers.

Yeah I never saw what the point was with Ultimate Spiderman, and as for the symbiote costume being made by Eddie and Peters fathers thats just stupid. The original story of the black spidey costume was fine just the way it was. Lets say that if by some act of God I could do my movie today I would want to play it safe and make it an animated movie that went directly to DVD.

That would probably not be a bad idea.
Just to test how people would react to Venom in his own film, y'know?
