:sym: Ok, Venom is a symbiote that basically overtakes his host's body, right? So why does he even need a tongue?

Theories???

(and yes, I'm biting my own tongue trying to resist all the possibilities here ;) )

I think it goes with the whole "distorted and nightmarish version of Spider-man" motif that the entire look has going for it; notice the eyes, they (windows to the soul) are torn, jagged, and harsher looking, the addition of a mouth symbolizes that this is more than a costume with Brock, it's his entire identity thus eliminating the need for it to appear as a garment, and finally the jagged teeth and tongue add a completed nightmare and hideous monster motif to Spider-man's old "face." Sorry, I'm back in university and my thinking has shifted to a more studious nature. :shock

I've always seem the symbiote as a reflection of its host's nature. Like Shockdingo said, Brock turned the alien into a twisted version of Spidey. It was somewhat explained in Venom: Dark Origin.

Why does Doctor Octopus need sunglasses?

I liked the tongue when i was playing Marvel vs capcom in the arcade. Made him look all evil and scary

When he first appeared he kinda looked like he had normal teeth and a normal tongue. I forget who added the sharp teeth, crazy tongue and green slime.

Honestly, I don't mind the tongue. It's a matter of proportions: When the appendage is depicted visually as a foot in length (give or take a few inches), with perhaps a strand or two of green saliva hanging from it, it looks fine.

It's when certain artists decide to make it UMPTEEN YARDS LONG WITH RIVERS OF DAYGLO GREEN SLAVER CASCADING OFF that it starts getting ridiculous.
