Which villains haven't appeared latley or have not done anything of note recently, despite the fact they have the potenial to be interesting villains?

I think Purple Man is a good example, he was revamped as a very scary villain in the early 2000s but has not done anything of note recently. The last time I saw him he was merely cannon fodder in the Hood's gang of super villains, kinda sad considering the sinister appearances he made in the early 2000s.

I think Purple Man is showing back up recently, or has shown up, but if so it's in a title I don't read.

For me, I'd like to see Exodus. He had some small things in X-Men Legacy a few years ago but nothing big. Prior to that he was head of the Brotherhood in X-Men written by Austin and portrayed badly. I want to see him as the powerful and dangerous dude he was when he was first created in the 90's.

Since the Hood made a union out of them, lots of villains who were pretty solid on their own seem to suck collectively. Masque and Count Neferia seem to be pretty useless, and the Wrecking Crew could always use another moment to shine.

Count Nefaria, definitely. He's a mob boss with enough physical power to mop the floor with the Avengers, including heavy hitters like Thor and Wonder Man. Why is he playing third fiddle behind a guy with a bed sheet and a sumo in a suit?

Purple Man is set to return in HEROES FOR HIRE, BTW.

I'm about ready for Ares to get over that sissy case of ~death~ he's been whining about.

Everyone in the Hood's gang got turned lame as ****.

When's the last time Doctor Doom really seriously and unambiguously ****ed up someone's day? Like this future foundation **** where he's taking orders from a 6 year old or whatever, ridic.

Ares totally needs to come back, bury his daddy drama for a while, and try his best to f*** up Hercules and Thor again. Skurge too, for that matter. Or Tyr. Team those f***ers up again.

Kang killed Washington, DC. I mean unleashed a swarm of killer Sentinels on it, then dropped what appeared to be a nuke on it. What has he done lately? Gone to the Avengers, many of whom profess to not know who he even is (at least Steve Rogers still recognizes him as the threat he is), and asked for them to convince Ultron to throw a fight... I think. My head hurts when I try to recall the ending.

Speaking about that...I always thought the Marvel Universe did not treat that Kang Dynasty story right. It is never mentioned, had little if any crossover implications, and nothing happened about it. True, the market was different, but if Stamford sparked no end of things, one would have thought Kang blowing up D.C. would have been a line wide shift. Instead? Nada. Kang literally destroyed the U.S. capital and nobody noticed.

Meh, happens all the time. How often is it mentioned that Asgard hovered over Manhattan for a while around that same time?

But that's inconsistent considering what IS mentioned all the time and what DOES become a big deal. I would think Nitro blowing up a school, as terrible as it is, it not as bad as Kang BLOWING UP ALL OF D.C. It shows a lack of history in editorial and that's always a shame, especially given how old editorial is. A guy in his 40's is a young'un up there. Nobody ever considers 40 young unless you're WELL OVER 40. :p

I'm 29. Kids and teenagers seem me as an old man. 35 year old's consider me young. Retirees see me as an infant. It's how it goes.

Dude, that's no contest. Schools are filled with children. Washington was filled with politicians. Of course people cared more about the school. :oldrazz:

But Kang blowing up D.C. should have sparked a SHRA debate, at least.

The media like politicians. And they like themselves. That's why they pay themselves a lot for part time jobs. ;)

Politicians and Black people. Lets get it straight.

Yeah, you're right. I forgot about the inner city area of DC (just like all the white folks want to :awesome:).

Well, the big difference is that Kang isn't some mutie/empowered *****e bag who blew up some kids. And He certainly wasn't goaded into waxing Washington DC by some overzealous armature superhero on a reality show. He was a time traveling despot, attacking not just Washington but the whole freakin' world. He killed half of Paris too you know. No, Kang Dynasty would have nothing to do with making super heroes have register. Even attempting to draw the line somehow from A guy from the future invading the past with an army of millions, to making D-Man register his powers with the local unemployment office as a result of it is effin' ridiculous.

Seriously, I'm disappointed in you Dread. :o

Nitro wasn't pushed into blowing up a school by amateur heroes either. Millar just forgot that the New Warriors had been around for years. :o

Nitro is a filthy mutie though Corp.:cmad:

Point taken, but Irrelevant to my point.

What the Kang Dynasty lead to was the Avengers, (After they saved the freakin' world and defeated Kang) was them being seen as Global heroes. With the Mansion being officially added to the United Nations as it's own autonomous state.

And it was all ruined by Bendis thanks to one drunken rant by Stark. :o

But, see, the UNDOING of what happened after Kang Dynasty is now canon. It's forever. It gets mentioned back and forth all the time.

The last time someone mentioned Kang Dynasty? In that DEADPOOL/GLA SUMMER SPECIAL where Squirrel Girl was debunking Penance's reasons to be emo. The entire world forgot when Kang blew up half the world. The entire world, however, has not gotten over Stamford, or Civil War, or Secret Invasion, or Siege, etc. Can you see how that's annoying?

Nitro is also NOT a mutant. That was only the mistaken way he appeared in "WOLVERINE AND THE X-MEN". He was a ham-radio lunatic who was genetically mutated by a fringe Kree group, the Lunatic Legion, to fight Mar-Vell. :o

Well, Stark Brought it up when he was doing the senate hearings when the bill was going through the house before Stamford.

Along with the 43 other times they saved the world.

But you know. What chu gonna do? Writers be b***hes and s**t. :o

It is a shame that Kang's fallen so much since the Busiek era, or the Avengers I guess. Marvel didn't start going back to that crossover formula until 2004-2005 line wide. The Avengers got boosted in popularity since, ironically given how Bendis has contempt for a lot of the conventions.

But, we've gone a bit off track. Villains who haven't appeared in a while or done nothing of note, besides Kang, Dr. Doom, or Count Nefaria...

Well, what about Sunstreak? She started out an Iron Man villain and was recruited to the Initiative under his administration, but rose during the Osborn era as an ex-villain (after she was placed on probation for her prior crimes under Stark). She was on one of Osborn's 50 state teams and I think personally aided in pummeling Thor in SIEGE alongside Osborn and most of the U-Foes. Was she captured? Escaped? Could be an interesting thing to do in YOUTH IN REVOLT, since she trained alongside some of the Initiative recruits (especially Butterball). Despite being a "young" character, she actually debuted in 1996. Maybe she can team up with the newer Firebrand from 1991 and make little campfires together. :p

While there are many mad scientists who can create monsters and their own gang of metahumans, few have the over-the-top awesome costume as Dr. Demonicus. He was originally part of Marvel's GODZILLA comics but went on to become a pain for the West Coast Avengers. I could imagine Greg Pak and Fred Van Lente having crazy-fun with this guy in a comic somewhere. Instead, he's been part of Hood's gang in NEW AVENGERS material, which is absurd because the guy is in no way a combatant. He's a crazy, terminally ill and deformed, mad scientist in a costume with a ray-gun.

Kang is a former A-list villain gone C-list and Bendis is completely responsible for that.

I think alot of villains have gone down a scale over the last decade sadly

I sort of laugh at how Legion has turned into Ben 10 though
