WandaVision WandaVision General Discussion Thread

Probably. But I'll be surprised if Monica doesn't get her powers in WandaVision. I have enjoyed her character so far, but I would prefer to see her powered when Captain Marvel 2 starts up, but not yet a super hero.
I would prefer to see her get her powers here too, mainly just because I'm anxious to see it, lol. But it also wouldn't surprise me if they wanted to save something like that for the movies.

Not all sitcoms are funny. but with something like Wandavision i would have thought Marvel would have gone for some of the best people to write jokes for it. and i think you could be self-aware and also clever with the jokes. i agree with one of the posts above that i laughed at the lights going out "oh thank god" joke. but the rest were not really funny. its like it was mostly written by someone who has never written a sitcom before and is just trying to mirror one.

I wouldn't be surprised either, but if we start Captain Marvel 2 with both Carol and Kamala Khan having powers when the film starts and Monica doesn't, I think it would be weird. I think it's likely she gets her powers in Wandavision, but she's not going to be a full hero until CM2.

I enjoyed the first two episodes more than this one. I think the trailers gave away this episode's final twist.

I'll try to avoid promos and trailers now.

I can't agree with most of this. I can think of so many jokes that I laughed at.

Definitely not sold on the sitcom aspect at this point (the jokes/set ups/punchlines are just not as funny as the actual sitcoms they're paying homage), but when the creepy 'wtf is going on here' vibe kicks in every now and then, THAT'S good television right there. The mystery aspect is exactly the kind of stuff that keeps me hooked into a series.
Overall I like the idea and what they're doing, just wished the sitcom stuff was funnier to compensate.
I mainly watch for the mystery of it, I don't know if the sitcom bits are suppose to be legit funny or they are poking funny at how that old stuff was done.Either way I haven't laughed once, now MCU movies I tend to laugh so I know they know how to make jokes and situations funny.

This show is interesting. I think it’s a well produced show that has solid acting. And the mystery box aspect of it keeps me interested.

But after three episodes do I actually think it is a good show? Sadly I have to say no. It’s twenty minutes of spoof of a tv show of a particular decade, with two minutes of drama or suspense thrown in.

I’m not saying they need to have a big action sequence like the movie or give us straight answers right away. But I do hope the next couple of episodes go beyond more than just the “genre sitcom of the week” they have relied on. I hope we get some answers as to why they are hopping from decade to decade beyond just it being a creative way to tell this story.

Somehow, I have no idea how, I accidentally turned on the audio assist on the episode for the very end. So there was a narrator reading stage direction during the last scene of the show for me. And I 100% thought it was actually part of the show. Like, some character who was watching or manipulating things was voicing over what was happening on the screen.

Then when it kept happening during the credits, I realized that I was an idiot. But it seemed like a very interesting move, and a deepening of the mystery at the time. I kind of wish it was the case.

Have you guys noticed that whenever anyone questions Wanda, she blinks and then things go sideways? Mr Hart questions her at the dinner table, she blinks and he starts to choke; Vision in this last episode asks her if she realizes the weird things going on, Wanda blinks and rewinds him.

So don't have Mrs Vision blink at you if you know what's good for you lol

I haven't noticed. It must be a case of blink and you'll miss it.

I wouldn’t say there are killer jokes but it has a consistent charm which I like.

I like this show. I think too many people are expecting a big budget villain of the day type show, with action set pieces. This isn’t Sam and Buckley’s show, we expect that from those characters. Marvel knows what they are doing to keep ppl interested. I respect that they always try to think outside of the box. We are actually getting to know Wanda outside of the Avengers films. We are seeing her transformation into the Scarlet Witch and we being introduced to new characters for coming movies (they haven’t been revealed yet) that is the fun and suspense of it all. They are saving all of the good stuff I believe in the coming episodes so once the story is complete I believe we are all going to be shocked and want to binge all 9 episodes just to see how everything connects. The problem with some of Netflix shows is that they are start off big and eventually loose momentum and get boring. WandaVision is building up to that momentum so when the hits the fan us fans will be super excited for the rest of phase 4. The sitcom aspect of the show is possibly shows Wanda used to watch as a child or it could be that the whole series is just a play on sitcoms but with a dark twist. I think everyone just needs to be patient and give this show a chance. We are expecting so much too soon. Granted it’s been a year since Endgame so we are hungry for MCU content but I believe in Marvel and if they want to have another 10 years in this business then they have to come up with interesting storytelling and not dry out or repeat the same story beats unlike Fox did with the X-Men. Just imagine if we got Thanos in a sequel because Marvel wanted to rush him and we probably wouldn’t have gotten a whole 10 year story arc, introduced new characters. They are really setting the stage for the multiverse and probably how other characters will come in.

There's been a handful of great gags, including Mrs. Hart returning the Sokovian greeting, Phil Jones lamenting the flattening of his grandmother's piano and Wanda using props to hide her third trimester figure. But its probably unfair to expect WandaVision to meet the comedic heights of all time greats like I Love Lucy and The Dick Van Dyke show. Subtract the creepy undertone and the three episodes we've seen would all fit nicely among the sitcoms of their respective eras.

I laughed about that Papa-ya joke. Though, I probably wouldn‘t have laughed, if my father had told me. It‘s like you won’t expect such a dad-joke from Vision

There are some funny jokes in there. I did roll my eyes a few times, but with the whole unnatural feeling, and the charm that the show exudes they absolutely get away with it.

I also found the ad really interesting this time around:
"You read my mind", "float away", and "Goddess". How very X-Men. Of course also Hydra, "a world all your own", and "you don't want to go anywhere".

I would like to give the marketing some credits for promoting this show. 85 % of the trailers showed material of the episodes 1-3. We just have some scenes of Halloween left and some really minor glimps.

Hmm, I think Wanda is definitely not playing with a full deck at this point but I'm not sure she's that far gone. Other things seem to be happening to her and someone is also manipulating her.

Vision does seem to have some autonomy separate from Wanda, even though she can clearly change things that she doesn't like and got extremely scary with Geraldine when she threatened her happy reality.

See, that's thing. Wanda was clearly upset, but I would say that scene can be read at least one other way: Wanda wasn't angry that "Geraldine" disrupted her happy reality, she could just as well have been angry because "Geraldine" clearly seems to know something and is out of place, and *Wanda* wants to know what the hell is going on. Note how in the previous episodes, there were several moments where Wanda herself was clearly disturbed by things she didn't know and couldn't figure out, and *wanted* to know more. . . until something disrupted and reset things.

Thanks, I hadn't seen that.
Intriguing pic, but it doesn't look like it has anything to do with Monica having powers to me. They're probably looking at Wanda or the alt-reality there or something.

Hahn is the MVP of most things she's in, imo.
I hope to see plenty of Hahn in the MCU. She's great.
