WandaVision WandaVision General Discussion Thread

Just finished the third episode. This is actually shaping up to be one of my favorite MCU productions. And yeah, it just blows away that annoying Marvel formula argument. Some people would say it's not really bold, but I wholeheartedly disagree. It's not a show for everybody everybody and I'm sure Schaeffer, Shakman and Feige new that from the start. By the way, give Shakman a MCU film already!

The trailers have none nothing for me. NOTHING.

Is the show even worth watching?
The episodes are quite short. I guess it would be worth watching once the finale aired.

I'm hoping someone makes a 2 hour edit of the whole thing because I don't want to rewatch the first three episodes in full.

For Marvel fans, I'd say to check it out now. For everyone else, I'd recommend waiting until every episode has dropped and binge watching them all at once which would probably be equivalent to watching a 3-3.5 hour movie.

Wow.... are the first 3 episodes that bad?

it’s the best thing I‘ve seen on TV in months (ok Mando was great too)

I hope it’s a huge success and Marvel continues taking risks and doing experiments with different genres

Maybe you're going in expecting a full-on action series like other MCU productions? And maybe you aren't familiar with all the classic sitcoms?

Feige already said right from the start it was going to pay homage to all these classic sitcoms, so perhaps your expectations and preconceived ideas need adjusting. Otherwise it's like watching an episode of Friends and wondering why there's no action.

I remember they were still trying to finish the last couple of episodes at least like a month ago. My guess is we haven't seen a lot from the last "act" of the series. They've became quite good at keeping a lot of stuff secret lately. Up until the release date, the Endgame marketing campaign was top notch. Just enough to keep you excited without giving anything away. I think they learned a lot from that experience.

I love them, but it depedens on what you're expecting. They're more like sitcoms mixed with Twin Peaks than, say, Mandalorian or Daredevil. Don't expect much action at all, but it's a fantastic meta homage with a mystery surrounding it.

I'd say sitcoms mixed with the Twilight Zone.

I wouldn't say its "bad"

However, I find myself tuning out after the first few minutes with the "sitcom portion". I don't mind references or paying homage to Feige's love for sitcom shows but I don't need to see that in every 1/3 of a 30 minute episode. I think binge watching is a better way to watch for some impatient people like me I guess and just want the story to ramp up. The first three episodes could easily be the first 15 to 20 minutes of a mcu film.

Though I have to saythe last minute of the third ep looked like a scene from a movie, so I wish the entire series was just shot like that, instead of looking like a sitcom from yesteryear.

I could agree with that too. It's just that the fake idyllic town with something evil underneath feels lynchian to me. The dinner scene is particular is very Lynch. But I'd say both would make for a fair description of the show. lol

Some of the complaints (not specifically anyone here, necessarily) I see just boggle my mind. Like, there's still people asking why there's no action, when it was made abundantly clear for the past year what kind of show this was going to be. And then there's the people who I've seen complain that the MCU is too formulaic and not original, who are now complaining that WandaVision is doing something different from their expectations :wall:

Anyway, I continue to adore this show, even if this most recent episode was a little lacking in the sitcom formula.

WandaVision is already my favorite live action Marvel property (including FOX movies, Sony movies and ABC and Netflix tv shows) with only the first 3 episodes to go by. As long as the ending doesn't disappoint, I think it'll remain my favorite. Elizabeth Olsen's acting is Emmy worthy.

Yeah I wish fan friendly shows were up for emmys but they’re so old fashioned. I agree though she deserves accolades. Such a bright future ahead for marvel telly

She even have some chances in my opinion. Hollywood loves movies about Hollywood, specially old nostalgic Hollywood.
Why shoudnt be the Emmys any different?

It makes even more grateful that Legion was able to last 3 seasons. I couldn't even imagine how those people would've reacted to something so out there and original.

What if this series is set during Wanda's time when she is snapped? So she's imagining all of this because she's dead, along with everyone else.

And when she's brought back to fight Thanos in Avengers Endgame that's part of what she meant when she says "You took everything from me". Maybe that also refers to him indirectly even taking away her perfect world she lived in for a while and not just Vision.

Here is the thing...

Legion was interesting, engaging and very entertaining with incredible performances right out the gate.

Go and rewatch the first three episodes of both and honestly tell me that as far as we have seen currently that both those shiws are on the same level.

I feel that Feige and Co. certainly wanted to do their own Legion here. I can't say they have even gotten their feet wet on that front.

Three episodes into Legion I was not bored. Confused a bit sure. Asking all kinds of questions, yes. But not bored.

I will watch a rerun of the Honeymooners and be entertained still til this day. But WV is giving me My Mother The Car/My Favorite Martian so far and... I wasn't entertained by those shows when I was a kid, much less once I became an adult. If I wanted to watch an hour and a half of old sitcoms... I'd just do that.

Commentary, satire, parody? Do that. Go nuts. But they haven't. It is a literal translation so far taking up the bulk of the episode run time.

I'm sorry but in no way was Vision being dumb cuz his robot guts got gummed up or Wanda shooing away a stork funny or entertaining. It just isn't.

This needed to be more like A VERY BRADY MOVIE and instead it is a an actual episode of The Brady Bunch... And the Brady Bunch was lazy, low effort network TV bull****.

^ It's the pacing of the story. Given that we know some of the larger elements, it's not even clear if the comedy is hinting at something much darker, so even something that's supposed to be funny, at times feels off or concerning. This whole show though does feel more Greek tragedy than comedy though.

IMHO each episode has flown by and sort of left me frustrated at the end. This show isn't like sitcoms of old, because there aren't stand alone episodes to it and there's no real B storyline either. It ALL feeds into a bigger story even the commercials hint at something. If you could binge this I think it would be a little more engaging, make more sense, and be a little less frustrating. Seems like just when they get to something good it ends right now though.

Disney doesn't seem to have the new and original content the way other services do though so I'm sure they're pacing the release to make you keep coming back rather than burn through all the content that's out there, especially since most of the content on their service is high quality that people have already seen (in some cases several times over). It'll also cut down on people pausing their subscription or opting in and out, because you'll want the content right then. Once you can binge it though I'm sure it'll make it less frustrating.

It's a good theory but everything I've read (including the EW article which Marvel contributed to) says it's set after the events of Endgame.

Honey, I'm Chrome: Marvel prepares to take over TV with 'WandaVision'

I just wonder how much rewatchability this show will have by the end. once everything has been revealed. once there are answers. once things fall apart or turn dark... will it be worth rewatching these sitcom bits?

There's no plan for a second season of this right?

I mean by the time this unfolds that's it. Just a really long mini-series version of a one shot.
