Does anyone really like him?

Is it that folks don't like him or that the films haven't done well enough of a job to get people to like him?

I quite enjoyed him in Civil War, but felt they kinda wasted Cheadle's talents in Iron Man 2 and 3. Essentially he's Stark's sidekick so maybe that is the rub of it.

Cheadle hasn't said much so I do wonder of his future in the MCU.

He's a sidekick. I think he's been used very well so far except for IM3...part of the problem with a character like War Machine or Falcon is that you start to wonder why no one else is using their technology. I try not to let that bother me.

Given where CACW left him, paralyzed, is he even in IW?

I figure it'd be a mistake not to include him, if only just to mention how he's coping with his injuring. It'd certainly add something more for the character.

I don't dislike him, it don't know why anyone would, but would I care if he went away? Not really to be honest. If anything his death could start a great arc with Iron Man as a villain.

I like him, but it would've been better if he passed away during Civil War.

Exactly how I feel. In fact that's what I assumed happened when he hit the ground, I thought 'Wow, they had the balls to do that!' I like the character and the way Cheadle plays him but the fact that he survived pulled me out of the movie a bit, dramatically speaking. It's the only problem I have with Civil War, otherwise I love it. I suppose as a consolation we at least got the 'Tony Stank' scene at the end.

It might have def changed the tone of the film. Stark would have gone for pure vengeance.

They really have to give him more to work with.

Is he anything like the comic book character? I kinda feel they must be downplaying him I suppose so they just focus on Iron Man and DOwney's likeability.

I like him and hope to see more of him. I'd like to see him interact even more with other Avengers without Tony, but I also love to see them fight together.

Rhodey whether we like him or not he is or he will be in Infinity War and most likely after that probably cameo in Captain Marvel

Clearly Rhodey dying would have worked better for some of you, but for me, I didn't care about him until they let him live.

Until this point, I have expected side characters like him to die for whatever plot moment the writers need. That's how these sort of characters have been treated in superhero films traditionally. But Rhodey surviving showed me that the writers don't consider any character expendable. That really added to the weight of previous character deaths like Coulson and totally changed how I viewed Rhodey on a rewatch of Iron Man 2. So for me, it was a great choice to have him survive.

It's weird seeing how many people wanted another cheap death in these movies again

I like him enough but I don't crave his presence or anything when I see these movies. I'd be okay if he never showed up again.

Would love to see him appear in Cap Marvel. That would be an appropriate place for him to show up.

Rhodey is a great character who deserves to be given more prominence on the team. In the comics, he has been an Avenger for decades, so there is little justification for treating him like some sort of second-rate hero in the MCU. I am glad that Marvel didn't fall into the "can't have more than one Black character at a time" or "kill the Black guy" tropes (see Agents of SHIELD for how those work). Considering how many fans on this forum were rooting for either Rhodey or Sam to be killed off in AOU or CW, I'm quite happy that Feige and co. haven't been that regressive.

I just hope he gets something to do besides possibly be the "control room guy" (see T. Howard as Rhodey in the 1st film) for the length of the movie.

I knew that wasn't happening once they showed it in the trailer.

Yeah, wouldn't make sense to spoil something that big in a trailer lol.

Rhodey wears a high-tech prosthesis. There is absolutely no reason why he can't be as active and effective as Tony is in a very similar suit. Having a disabled superhero would be very novel and perhaps inspiring to people living with disabilities, as well as realistic.

This is an interesting point. IRL exoskeletons sorta like the Iron Man suit are being built specifically for people with disabilities. https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/00/97/9f/00979f12f5b7eaa4890a2430de0e5afd.png

When I described the War Machine suit as a "high-tech prosthesis," I was directly quoting Tony Stark's description from Iron Man 2. In Rhodey's case, that description is even more apt. The War Machine suit can facilitate walking and running for him, while he pilots it and uses the weapons systems in battle. An opponent wouldn't even know he's disabled and that wouldn't matter when he kicks their ass.

I'm sure he will have a much smaller role in IW and its sequel but I hope he has more to do. Show him dealing with his injury and whether it's negatively affected his role on the team. Or if they are looking for a replacement.

And a cameo in Captain Marvel would be phenomenal

They seriously gotta give Don Cheadle more to do. He's an insanely talented actor.

I don't get why they haven't conveyed this to the films. They have him basically be a friend of Tony's who just happens to have the WM suit.
