Warhawk Cover!!!

Update 1.1 tommorrow.

FINALLY! -- and Yes...I realize this was a loooong time coming :-P

We are going to be globally deploying the v1.1 during an extended maintenance window Friday, November 2nd between 5am and 9am Pacific.

To recap, here are the items addressed by the patch:
Server-side
* Stat database stability improvements
* Improved server stability
* Max Clan limit changed from 32 to 64
* Viral Rank-up bug fixed and correct for players that were accidentally ranked up.
* “Time-in-Vehicle” Stats fixed so certain awards can now be granted properly.

Client-side (this is the one that you will actually download to your PS3)
* Stat connection, fetch/post fixes
* Significantly improved client connection stability
* Quad “????” Ping display bug fixed.
* Added support for Player-Ranked Servers.
* Game synchronization fixes due to fluctuating network conditions (packet-drop).
* Crash fixes for end of game and split screen.

A couple of things that I want to point out. Some of you were able to download the v1.1 patch before it was "officially" ready. Since this occurred without the server-side updates to compliment it, not all of the fixes would have functioned. Specifically the viral-rank-up fix and the time-in-vehicle stat fix. Once we bring the system back online Friday, 9am Pacific, these fixes will be functional.

Also, once we deploy the patch, when you boot Warhawk, you will be prompted by the XMB to download the v1.1 patch. This is a fast download so it's not a time killer. Once the XMB has pulled the patch down, Warhawk will boot back up and be happy! You will also notice a "v1.1" in the lower right corner of the screen.

So...we'll be monitoring the roll-out tomorrow and this weekend so please check the forums for any updates We'll also be updating the announcements text today as well.

I would also like to extend a heart-felt "Welcome Back!" to our talented QA, SCERT and PDIT teams in San Diego. I've said it before and I'll say it again, they are the ones "behind the curtain" making a lot of this happen and its great to have them back!

Operation: Omega Dawn

We’ve just finished development of our v1.2 patch and our first Booster Pack, Operation: Omega Dawn!…which is very different than “Red Dawn” or “Dawn of the Dead”



I’d like to give our blog readers a bit of info on our first downloadable content – and I’ll try to keep in away from sounding to much like a sales-pitch filled with shallow marketing-speak. The team and I really wanted the Omega Dawn Booster pack to add a new gameplay experience and to enhance the replay value of the core Warhawk game. Not be some nickel-and-dime upgrade that takes advantage of our player community!!! (That’s my own personal opinion on DLC so I’ll get off my soapbox now)

So without further ado…

The Omega Dawn Booster pack adds 3 key things:

* A night-time battlefield with 6 layouts called the “Omega Factory”. It’s huge btw.
* New 7-player aircraft called the KT-424 Combat Dropship.
* And 5 updated bonus layouts for battlefields from the original game so that you can play using the new Dropship.

First let me ramble on about the new battlefield: Many of you all wanted a night time level so that’s what we did. The battlefield takes place at night well… actually at early dawn. We wanted to make this level a bit more challenging and visually improved than our previous levels. It has more involved building layouts with more vertical structures, platforms and detailed spaces for ground troops.

Here’s the map of the entire battlefield.



This more advanced layout compliments the dropship really well as there are some places in the level that are only accessible by air. This is especially cool for transporting vehicles! We also added some macro scale color changes to the bases to help players communicate locations within the symmetrically balanced battlefield.

You’ll see all of this more in these screen shots so I’ll stop talking about the new battlefield now



The Combat Dropship is pretty damn sweet I gotta say. During the entire Omega Dawn dev-cycle I was trying to have us deliver on the crazy notion of a “Multiplayer BOSS”. Something that a team could all work together to control and that would require other players to work as a team to defeat the opposing team’s “BOSS”. We’ve had several just wicked memorable moments playing with our testers that felt like classic BOSS battles … but in a fast-paced multiplayer game!

What else?

Oh yeah…we also integrated the Combat Dropship in the 5 biggest layouts from the original game. It really changes the way those levels play which is good ‘cause it gives them a fresh feel … like an Irish spring!

Ahh…there are 2 things you will all ask immediately I’m sure: “when does it come out?” and “how much does it cost?”



We are in our final global test phase right now (internally it’s called format testing). Once we pass and go “gold” (which is a pretty odd term given a purely digital distribution but whatever) then I can announce a specific date. But we are still on track for our “December” release.

And as far as pricing goes – the Omega Dawn Booster Pack will sell for $7.99 on the PlayStation Store. Why don’t we just charge $8.00? I mean seriously? Does that one penny really fool anyone?

I’ll probably need to make some follow-up posts once you all have had a chance to comment. So smash this site with questions and I’ll do my best to post a FAQ about the upcoming Booster Pack!

WTF! I haven't played a little while and the last time I played, I was at Air Marshall. I turn it on and I'm back to Airman!!!!???!?!?!??! I know it had something to do with the new update, but all my stats are the same, only mt rank has changed. Grrrrrr. On the plus side, I get to play all the newbs to get my rank up.
 
Same thing happened to me. I was air marshall, but then I got demoted to airman, and the patch didn't fix it. Sucks. :(

Hey Everyone!

Many of you may have seen it announced on other websites but...

Our Omega Dawn Booster pack will be available for purchase on the PlayStation Store December 20th World-Wide!!

Also, our free v1.2 game patch will be made available world-wide for all of you on December 19th at 10:00 GMT...that's 2am Pacific. We will also be having a scheduled maintenace window form 10:00 to 16:00 GMT. Basically for us to roll-out the new patch. Please also note that while you will not be able to play Warhawk durring this time, you *will* be able to pull down the patch in preperation for the world-wide game environment to come back online at 16:00 GMT (8am Pacific)

I have also been collecting questions that all of you have asked both here and on the SCEA blog. I will be posting a FAQ early next week.

Will answer 1 question right now though...what are we currently working on?

We are busy in development of our v1.3 game update. Yes its FREE of course (just in case some of you ask). And YES, it includes some new game stuff...not just fixes. Here's a hint...its not new free layouts like we are releasing with v1.2. It has to do with troops. What could it be? :-)

To clarify...the Omega Dawn Booster-Pack is $7.99

And we *are* adding some new customization...but that's not what I was talking about.

But we are doing something really cool with the customizations for v1.3...here's a hint.

Custom paint jobs for our Warhawks? Custon insignias? I guess we will have to wait. Still cool news though. :woot:
 
Is it just me, or did Warhawk's rank advancement get a lot harder since the mass-demotions months back? I remember it only took me a few weeks to get to Captain, but after they demoted me to Airman it's taken me weeks just to get up to Wingman. Either I'm just not playing enough, or the requirements for promotion have gotten a lot stricter.

Also, has anyone else experienced a much harder time actually getting one's team to score in Capture the Flag? It seems like 2 out of every 3 matches I play ends in a tie, and the third ends with only one actual capture being scored.
 
I just tried Warhawk for the first time in weeks this weekend and I got bumped down to Airman 1st class. WTF? This was a big turnoff
 
Yup. A few weeks / a month or two ago there were mass demotions in Warhawk's servers. Some people got their original ranks back, but many poor blokes, like me, had to climb their way all the way up from Airman.
