Fantasy Warner Bros to reboot Willy Wonka

Hmm. You know what? This movie wasn't on my radar, and it kind of sort of still isn't- but there's a level of magic and wonder here that gives me vibes of trailers from the first few Harry Potter films. Odd comparison, I know, but this trailer does raise my level of interest and feels appropriate for the holiday season.

Not a bad trailer .

Timothy is certainly channeling a young Gene Wilder , and I prefer the look of this film to the Burton film, which, to be fair, I wasn't crazy about anyway.

Don't know if the film will be good, but it certainly looks pretty.

It looks fine. Nothing groundbreaking and seems by the book. Looks like he will have mommy issues in this one instead of daddy issues like in Burton’s movie.

Visually it looks great. Just not feeling Chalamet. He feels miscast. Especially if this is a prequel to the Wilder film and not the book. At the very least, it'll catch a matinee.
I mean Austin Butler is right there. :o

The movie itself seems to have a sense of nonsensically whimsy that I like, but Chalamet really feels like he’s trying too hard to be Wilder. He just doesn’t have that twinkle in his eyes.

Looks like a cute family movie.

And glad they are changing the racist undertones of the Oompa Loompas.

Smells like a bomb but I hope it makes money. I would definitely like this to be good but yeah feels like a bomb.

Budget’s just $125 million. Even if it does Flash numbers it would still break even after ancillaries.

I can't stand Chalamet. Don't know why but the guy is like a charisma vacuum to me.

I don't know if I'll see this in a theatre, but I'll definitely check it out some point. It looks like vibrant, colorful fun and Chalamet looks good in the role, but I'm mostly here for Hugh Grant as an Oompa Loompa lol.

Between The Gentleman and D&D you can tell he's having the time of his life in these roles and his energy/charisma is so damn infectious that it honestly makes it hard not to love the guy.

Chamelet I usually like but he felt really unnatural in this like he's trying to act crazy and wacky if that makes sense. His performance doesn't seem that good. Not terrible but very try-hard.

This looks fine though. Seems like a nice cute family friendly film. Prolly won't see it in theaters but I hope it's successful. We need more feel good moves. Other than Top Gun 2 (I swear this is the answer for so many movie related things) I feel like there aren't that many good feel-good movies. Especially well made ones. Hopefully this is it

Totally agree with the Chalamet comments. Gene Wilder wasn't this try-hard at being eccentric, as one of you pointed out. That's why that performance was so memorable and iconic. Chalamet is trying to be all zany, and it doesn't work (based on the trailer alone).

I’ll cut Chalamet some slack. Stepping into Wilder’s shoes as Willy Wonka is a lot like trying to step into Christopher Reeve’s shoes as Superman. A tall order, to say the least, and if he’s willing to try I’m willing to watch.

Going against the grain, I think Chalamet is perfectly cast - the whimsy doesn't feel forced to me, he's always had moments of lightness in his movies (some of his moments in Little Women feel very Willy Wonka), and I'd much rather this kind of performance than having the standard Gritty Reboot Sullen Jeans Model acting these types of movies often have. And beyond that, I like that they seem to keeping the gleefully nonsensical tone from both the book and the Wilder film and not trying to make it all dark and "realistic". Whether it'll actually all come together remains to be seen (I'll admit I laughed at the words "Chocolate Cartel", and I don't yet know how I feel about Hugh Laurie's Oompa-Loompa yet), but I think the ingredients are there for a fun movie.

The whole time I was thinking ‘wait why am I enjoying this trailer?’ and then it said from the director of Paddington, so of course that’s why :funny:.

Honestly, the concept of a Willy Wonka origin story starring Timothee Chalamet sounds beyond exhausting but looks like King might actually make it work.

Sorry but this does look fun actually. I wasn’t sure when I saw the picture of Hugh as an Oompa Loompa but the trailer looked like the right sort of whimsical

I hate to pile on... but yeah, Chalamet seems off in this one. Let's hope it's just the editing of the trailer.

Seems a weird property to revive in a way but yeah, people are into it for some reason.

Hugh Grant was the perfect choice, especially at this stage of his career. He looks and sounds great as an Oompa Loompa. :D

Not loving what I'm seeing so far. The Paddington guy was all wrong for this, I fear. Doesn't feel like Dahl at all - none of the creepy, slightly ominous mean-spiritedness that lurked in the corners of all his work. Maybe it's just the trailer, but I really don't like this new, overly sweet coating that they seem to be dunking Wonka in.
