I just love all 4 Defenders series (+ Punisher), and the "team" effort was fantastic. Even the criticism on 'Iron Fist' Season 1 is beyond me. The Iron Fist series was great, despite Finn was not a martialist (his stuntman was great anyway) and the plot was a bit far-fetched.

I just hope "The Defenders" was successful from a commercial standpoint, because NETFLIX managed to create these brilliant superhero shows that - in all regards - are vastly superior to the MCU.

No it wasn't. If it was they would've mentioned season 2 coming soon or something like that. You see how quickly they announced all the other 2nd series of the shows.

There were also the rumors that it was the least successful of all of the Netflix shows.

I'm so sorry about this. Even "Iron Fist" was far more successful - it was the most binge-watched show and it was renewed for Season 2.

We don't know the exact metrics of how it preformed. There were rumors it did worse of all the series and there are reports it was the most binged. I think it's possible that Netflix wants to focus more on individual series, getting them out faster and reduce time between series and perhaps build more anticipation for season 2. I think Defenders being more of an event than a reoccurring series works best so hopefully that's what they think. Or netflix could have been underwhelmed and canceled future plans. But if Iron Fist can get a season 2, I don't see why Defender wouldn't either.

If it didn't bring in numbers then that's why, but as you said we don't have the metrics. But from the lack of movement and Ritter herself saying she doesn't see it, I don't imagine it happening anytime soon

That's really sad, man. I'd love to see these guys all come together at least one more time. Their chemistry was a definite high point of the series even if it lacked and underwhelmed in other areas.

who knows it could happen. I just dont see it anytime soon.

I think also if the reception to it was better that would've helped also. It kinda just flew under the radar in terms of hype

I recall reading Luke Cage was the most viewed series while Iron Fist had the largest audience (during its debut week) but that tailed off quickly.

I imagine the Defenders got some nice figures but not many stayed around to finish the series.

DD S2 was the most viewed. Cage did well though. I'd wager the Punisher did better though, but I don't recall any numbers.

Netflix rarely releases the viewing numbers. I imagine The Defenders was popular, though we should wait until later in con season, as this is when announcements of renewals tend to be made.

...

Given the talk of no immediate plans, I suspect it didn't meet expectations. Now I have no idea if those expectations were too high or not. It's possible a disappointing Iron Fist lead in hurt it (although Iron Fist's numbers were apparently good) or it's also possible that people only watched it if they saw all five other seasons first.

Plus, what would the big, overarching threat be? At least with The Hand, they were in two seasons of Daredevil and the first season of Iron Fist. Now it seems like the heroes are more or less just focusing on their own threats, rather than something that could spill into another show. Had the show been a huge success, there'd have been an immediate green light for Season 2.

I read sources that say it was Luke Cage and I've also seen some that said Iron Fist was.

how different could THE DEFENDERS have been if they put more work into it and more $$$?

I dont know.
I dont' think money would've solved a lot. Maybe better fight scenes. But most of the other issues: pacing, mediocre side characters, annoying character actions, etc. have been mentioned by so many with every Netflix Marvel show.

I personally really enjoyed this show. My only gripe was Weaver's character was killed off too quickly and it seemed to be for more shock value than storytelling.

Not that it didn't fit with the story, but yeah.

The Punisher, Jessica Jones 2 and Luke Cage 2 are all big hits.
So I guess they will plan a better season 2 for Defenders.

I don’t think they’ll do another Defenders season.

It's pretty obvious that's all she wrote for The Defenders. I think the best you could hope for is a Heroes for Hire or Daughters of the Dragon spinoff.

I hope they address it in some small way. Defenders s2 won't happen because Daredevil is back to being a lone wolf who doesn't work well with others

That being said, they damn well better still have Jessica, Luke and Danny intermingling

Is it that big a deal? Danny and Colleen both showed up in Luke Cage. Misty is supposed to be in Iron Fist S2. I'm hardly holding my breath that Luke and Jessica are going to get married and have a super-powered kid.

Rather than cancel or change the shows, why not just it make a miniseries event?
