Tony Scott will next direct the 20th Century Fox thriller Unstoppable. Scott is working with screenwriter Mark Bomback to get the picture in shape to be shot later this year.

Martin Campbell was previously on board to direct.

The drama involves an unmanned runaway train that is carrying a cargo of toxic chemicals. An engineer and his conductor find themselves in a race against time.

Julie Yorn is producing, and Scott will board the project as a producer as well.

Scott most recently completed The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3, the Columbia Pictures action-thriller that will be released June 12.

Tony Scott usually brings a good flavor of entertainment.

The story doesn't sound the greatest, but let's see what star power they bring onto this.

sounds lame

me seeing this will completely depend on who is cast as the lead.

It sounds really lame. Scott has had a couple of movies that I like but overall I dislike his overly MTV directing style.

I hate Tony Scott('s epileptic editing style)

Denzel Washington is negotiating to star in drama "Unstoppable," the Tony Scott-directed that 20th Century Fox has on track for a fall production start.

Washington would play an experienced engineer who jumps in a locomotive with a young conductor to chase down a runaway train carrying a cargo of toxic chemicals. Mark Bomback wrote the script, which is loosely inspired by a true event.

Julie Yorn is producing "Unstoppable" with Scott.

The drama would reunite Washington and Scott for their fifth film together. Aside from "Crimson Tide," "Man on Fire" and "Deja Vu," the duo just completed another train-based thriller, "The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3," which Columbia Pictures releases June 12.

Washington has been filming "The Book of Eli" for Alcon Entertainment and Silver Pictures, with Allen and Albert Hughes directing the post-apocalyptic thriller that Warner Bros. releases in early 2010.

Chris Pine is Unstoppable
Source: The Hollywood Reporter June 4, 2009

The Hollywood Reporter says that Star Trek star Chris Pine is in talks to join Denzel Washington in director Tony Scott's action-thriller Unstoppable at 20th Century Fox.

The story centers on an experienced train engineer (Washington) about to be laid off as part of company cutbacks and the newbie (Pine) conductor hired to replace him. They find themselves in a race against time to stop an unmanned, half-mile-long freight train carrying enough combustible liquids and poisonous gas to wipe out a nearby city.

Mark Bomback wrote the script.

Working with Scott and Denzel is a good move for Pine but it's at Fox and sounds a little bland storywise.

I think if he does a role where he's more serious right after doing the comedic Just My Luck and the quirky and cocky Kirk, he'd be more of a lock for GL.

It sounds a little cheesy, but I guess it might be okay. Pine's involvement has me mildly interested and Washington is always good.

But seriously, do Washington and Scott really want to do another action movie about a train? They just completed one!

'Unstoppable' hits budget snags

Washington is an A-lister who earns as much as $20 million per picture at a time when studios say they want to rein in star salaries.
Hollywood execs are pointing to such star-driven projects as "Land of the Lost" and the Washington-Scott actioner "The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3," which have faltered at the boxoffice, while concept-driven pics including "Up," "Star Trek" and "The Hangover" have flourished. (Ironically, "Trek" star Pine was one of the actors who broke out in a concept movie; "Unstoppable" was to be a coming-out party of sorts.)
Known for their high production values, Scott’s movies tend to travel in a higher-budget range. But Fox is known for managing costs by examining budgets critically.

Washington Is "Unstoppable" Again
By Garth Franklin Wednesday July 22nd 2009 09:04PM
Two weeks after he formally withdrew from the film, Denzel Washington is now back onboard the Tony Scott-directed runaway train drama "Unstoppable" for 20th Century Fox reports Variety.

First attached in April, Washington is once again set play a veteran engineer who jumps into a locomotive with a young conductor ("Star Trek's" Chris Pine) to stop an unmanned runaway train loaded with toxic cargo.

The project hit a speed bump when the studio insisted the budget be cut back to $90 million, with Washington to cut $4 million from his salary. Washington was looking elsewhere but his and Fox have reportedly found a way to compromise on the deal.

Pre-production on the film has resumed in Pittsburgh for filming to get underway in the Fall. Mark Bomback penned the script.

Just found out that this is being filmed in Pittsburgh, so I'm interested in it. It's always good to see the Steel City on the big screen.

I think Pine and Washington will play off each other extremely well.

Shame on you for forgetting how entertaining Tony Scott can be as a director... :o

:funny: I'm always defending Tony Scott on here I just figured the premise had earnest but dull written all over it.

they edited the trailer like its a Bay sumemr blockbuster movie.

It actually looks like a typical Tony Scott trailer to me... :p

Who's driving the train ?

Mal. :cwink:

The trailer actually makes it look pretty good. Pine and Washington are both great, and it looks like they'll do well together in this buddy action-style film.

I'll be waiting for Netflix. The movie looks okay but Scott's last movie so freakin stupid.
