What are you thoughts on snooping or watching what your kids do on the pc?

Granted I have no kids, but I will install software that will tell me every key she presses on the keyboard...you damn well know I will know what she/he does on the PC

well this is kinda similar to snooping through your kid's room...

hmmmmmmmmmmm i dunno, I would like to bring up my child (if i was unfortunate to have one) in a society of trust. I would hope they would tell me what they were on...

heck, actually knowing how much time i spend hyping, they probably won't even get to go on it unless it was specifically for work...

:o

Hey guys! lol, you gotta see this fat kid pretending he's twirling with a litesaver. HaHaHa, it's smokin'

The child has not right to expect privacy.

I'd still give him/her a level of privacy that allows them to grow and as long as they didn't give me a reason to snoop, I probably wouldn't.

However, that doesn't mean they have the right to privacy. If they want the right to privacy, the rent will be due on the 1st of each month.

Exactly, except for, of course, the *basic* rights to privacy. For example, you wouldn't open the door and walk into the bathroom when your teenager is taking a shower. There's a certain level of privacy ALL young adults have a right to.

But when it comes to the computer, install every kind of snoop software you can. Your kids have NO CLUE what kind of dangers wait for them, I don't care if they're 15, 16 or 17.

And if they complain, the solution is simple - you can have it MY way or you can have NO COMPUTER AT ALL. Choose one.

Haha, Malice exiles us over to CS to fix the search feature, then totally ignores it :p

My guess is that this thread was spawned because of the other, not in spite of it.

While the subject matter is similar, one is a specific circumstance and one is a generality. This topic DESERVES its own thread.

Why not?

What if they're doing something wrong or harmful to themselves in the shower?...especially since they know that's the only place you'll never dare to spy on them???

If I lived with my parents, and I was going to

a) wakov to pr0n
b) smoke bluntz
c) sh00t up
d) cut myself
e) screw an older woman

I'd definitely do it in the bathroom.

So, please, if you care about your childrens, don't neglect them by shying away from watching them shower!

I was just joking.

A thread topic on this type of question already exists. Mods should stop being lazy & look before they post just like everyone else. But then again every single user on the hype is lazy & the search still sucks anyway

LOL all good points. Guess I now have somewhere to install those spycams I bought a couple of years ago!

IT'S A RATHER COMPLICATED MATTER. AT YOUNG AGES, YES PARENTS SHOULD AND MUST OBSERVE WHAT THEIR KIDS ARE DOING, NOT JUST ON THE INTERNET, BUT MOSTLY EVERWHERE :o

BUT ONCE THEY GET OLDER (SAY AROUND 15-18), IT'S TIME TO START ALLOWING THE CHILD TO GET SOME PRIVACY. IT'S AN ISSUE OF TRUST. THE CHILD HAS TO BUILD UP THE PARENT'S TRUST AND THE PARENT MUST SHOW THAT THEY TRUST THE CHILD. PRIVACY IS NEEDED FOR CHILDREN OF OLDER AGES AS THEY ARE ABOUT TO ENTER INTO ADULTHOOD.

Trust is earned, not awarded. I trust my daughter to do exactly what a 15 year old would ... which is to be very naive about the world and her surroundings pretty much half of the time, and make stupid decisions as a result. That's what kids do. If kids didn't ever make stupid decisions or miscalculations, they wouldn't require parents.

Further, on the issue of trusting one's parent - if a parent is doing a good job protecting his or her children, as well as maintaining a HIGH amount of integrity (I'll do what I say and say what I'll do consistently), the child ALREADY trusts the parent. If we're talking about a good parent here, that bridge is already built and cannot be destroyed by a little "over protectiveness".

what kinda harm can a 16 year 'stumble' across on the internet that they don't know is there already?

16 is a fairly old age to be wanting to protect a child from the outside worlds, not even that but from the 'dangers' of the cybernetic one...

:o

i say if you want to put up barriers, then fine. That's alright for a parent up to a certain age. However specifically spying is a lil too much, you might as well hire a private detective to follow them around all day long while you are at it.

<Wil's Mom>Wil? Honey? Who do you have in the bathroom with you, dear? Are you alright? You sound like you're both hurt with all that moaning. And what's burning in there? Wil? Can you hear me? *knock-knock-knock*</Wil's Mom>
