Watchmen Rating

How old are you?

I'm 16. And where I live, if you're under the age of 18 you can't see a rated R film without a person 18 years of age or older. Yeah, I really want to see it with my friends, but I doubt they'll come, they too haven't even heard of it since I told them and that they've seen the trailer. So I just don't know what to do. I haven't the luxury of comic book friends. :brucebat::csad:

So it is officially rated R, this is a good thing...I guess that means they didn't cut out the rape scene and the murder of the pregnant lady...or some of the nudity scenes with Silk Spectre II and Nite Owl...or Rosharch getting blown to a puddle of flesh and blood....yeah, Watchmen NEEDED to be R.

And an R rated Batman movie will probably never happen in any one of our lifetimes. The Dark Knight was as R-rated as Batman gets, all that was missing was the blood whenever Joker shot someone in the head or something.

You never know, if Watchmen is a hit at the box office, there is a possibility of TDKR making it to the big screen in full R rated glory.

One can hope...

And hope for someone to be intelligent enough to patch the mistakes of TDKR in a film, too.

What mistakes?

The only one I can think of is when Batman used the machine gun to kill the Mutant while rescuing the kidnapped child.

he uses rubber bullets though i thought

He used one of the perps machine guns in that scene. I always put that down to a 'no other choice' scenario. He would have been killed as well as the kid(eventually) if he hadn't acted imo.

Without meaning to sound idiotic, does anyone have any idea what this shall be rated in the UK? (I'm not too familiar with USA to UK ratings :o)

I'm hoping for a 15, as I'm a year short of the 18 mark and would really like to see it in the cinema :oldrazz:. Also I tend to prefer 15 movies, as I'm not really a fan of (over-exagerrated) violence :woot:. But I wouldn't mind an 18 if it means everything is included, of course :hehe:

Don't know if this helps, but an R in America becomes a 16's in Ireland. I seem to remember that on most dvd's here the English rating is one above the Irish, so 18's in Britain seems about right.

I don't think TDKR needs to be R.

Are we sure it'll be rated R? R rated movies make far less money. Granted, TDK has created a darker atmosphere for comic book films but this might be going too far too early. I could see WB forcing them to tone it down to PG-13, because they'll get so much more money that way.

That's funny. No R-rated film has an opening weekend of $100,000,000. If Watchmen were PG-13, there's no doubt it would be way past that.

But the story is more important than the rating and the story would be sacrificed.

Hey guys, I'm planning on going to see this within the next day or two, but here's my question. I have a few friends (myself included) who don't watch rated R movies. I know this one is and I've read the graphic novel so I can imagine why. However, I don't know what's made the cut and what hasn't. Can anyone give me a rundown of the "Rated R" reasons so I can prepare my friends and help them decide whether to see it or not? Nudity, Sex, language, Gore... etc. And how intense are each? Is it steeply rated R or just barely over the PG13/R line?

Thanks,
JH

sex, some language, quiet a bit of gore/blood id say steeply

Definitely earned the R.

Boobs, blue penis, severed limbs, chopped heads, sex, etc.

Thanks. My wife and I just don't like the R stuff but I can't go and not watch Watchmen. So we're going, my friend's going with us, but his girlfriend and sister-in-law's the same way we are so I want to give them a heads up going in.

if you don't normally watch more graphic movies this might be a shock to you.

Definitely earned it's R-Rating. I wasn't shocked at all but my friend i was with was squeamish at parts.

If you not a fan of gore (or nudity and some strong language) be warned, but if your like me and have no aversion to more extreme movies in terms of content, you'll be fine.
