Fox 2000 Takes Water for Elephants
Source: The Hollywood Reporter
September 9, 2008

Fox 2000 has bought the rights to Water for Elephants, Sara Gruen's best-selling historical love story, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Francis Lawrence is attached to direct, and Richard LaGravenese is writing the adaptation, which will be produced by Andrew Tennenbaum, Gil Netter and Erwin Stoff.

The book centers on a 90-year-old man reminiscing about his life and is set during the Depression, when he found work at a B-level circus taking care of the animals. He sees the brutality of circus life while falling for the wife of an abusive animal trainer.

I like Francis Lawrence and this is an interesting change of pace for him.

I've asked this question in the 'Tom Rothman' thread but..

What exactly is FOX 2000?

Just saw the thread and came in thinking, Hmmm Water for Elephants. That sounds like a Clint Eastwood film. So I come in and don't know anything about it and am proven wrong because I am not a psychic.

I am not a fan of either lead but the film looks beautiful in an old school fashion.

i cant wait for waltz next movie... this looks more serious than green hornet.. but i will see both either way ;)

Has anyone seen the film yet? I just got back from seeing it & I thought it was fan-freakin'-tastic! Totally loved it & the cast was great. Loved Waltz's performance but at the same time, I hated him. I wanna see it again.

The film does look solid but I can't get past the stupidity of the title. It also looks like Titanic, but with no sinking ship...and elephants.

I absolutely loved this book and I can't wait to see the movie. Didn't have time to see it this weekend but I'll be seeing it next week for sure.

And don't get all worked up about the title. It may be trying to be like Titanic, but i thought it was much better.

I just finished reading the book and loved it, but am uncertain as to whether or not the film is worth seeing in theaters. I heard that it was boring and that there was no chemistry between Rob and Reese. Any truth to that?

Went to see it with my girlfriend last week, she got tickets to some sneak preview of it. She read the book and really liked the movie. I thought it was awful, watching the movie without reading the book, it does seems like many things were taken out. The book may have made you care about the characters, but the movie didn't, every character and relationship seemed underdeveloped. Also Robert Pattinson showed just how much he can't act, he was absolutely awful, he's got two emotions brooding and happy, that's it, most of the time it looked like he was trying to do Zoolander's "Blue Steel". The story should have made this movie easy Oscar bait, but Fox knew the final product turned out to be a turd, that's why it's released now, the pretty much dead month of April.

Movie star electric shocked

Video released by Animal Defenders International shows the elephant that appears alongside Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson in the new film Water for Elephants being hit and electric shocked during training.

first video was filmed six years before WFE was produced but the elephants are still under the same owners/trainers.

...finally saw this movie for the first time last night. Very, very good.

Waltz bordered on disturbing in some scenes. He's definitely good at playing villains.

He was a snake. One second he was charming and the very next he was violent and disturbed. Even when he was trying to be charming he was off and it made for an unsettling performance.

This takes the cake for stupid reasons not to watch a film. There is nothing stupid about the title if you watch the film. It's about a circus and bringing water for the elephants is a base job in the circus. Watch the film and it will make sense.

Definitely.
