WB creating live-action Akira - Part 1

There's no excuse at all for WB to f**k up the casting. There are plenty of good Asian actors around in Hollywood. Instead, they're casting two terrible white actors to play Asian characters.

Well the characters aren't going to be Asian if a white person is going to play them, obviously.

Bumping this for the new thread.

Tetuso, Kei, and Kaneda.

Yes, Caucasians with Asian names... not being Asian. That makes no sense.

Personally, I would prefer Jon Foo for the Kaneda role.

well seeing how tetsuo is travis in the script not really asian names

Link?

If they are indeed changing or modifying the names of the original characters, then they might as well change the title of the adaptation too.

Watanabe as the colonel works really well. Especially since he can sport a mean stache and that he has gained a bit of weight lately.

Definitely, I could think of no one else to play the Colonel but Ken Watanabe.

A Caucasian person with an Asian sounding name is too out there for a movie set in the future about bikers with psychic powers?

Let's see. Akira is a Manga that takes place in a post-apocalyptic Neo-Tokyo.

You tell me.

Well, can anyone answer this?

Has there ever been an asian remake or adaptation of an American or European film/book with a primarily caucasian cast or characters, redone with a primarily asian cast? and if so, was there an outcry within the country to have the characters recast to fit there original depictions?

I'm certain there has been at one point, but Asians are a group in Hollywood that are shown little to no respect.

Oh, forgot about...
