WB is Making the Suicide Squad movie

Meh. We'll see. I'll see it as long as Deadshot's in it.

call me crazy, but I think this movie will be in development hell for a long time. Just a feeling.

I've always thought Suicide Squad had a lot of potential as a feature film - sort of a supervillain version of The Dirty Dozen.

Over on 'The Losers' thread, people including me were disappointed the Peter Berg didn't get that. I'd like to see him on this. As for characters I'm hoping that Rick Flag (of course), Deadshot (duh), Manhunter, Count Vertigo and Captain Boomerang are in it. Among others, of course. :)

Warner Bros. Pictures has set up the DC Comics property Suicide Squad for Dan Lin (Sherlock Holmes) to produce as a potential franchise.

In a departure from normal comic-based fare, Suicide Squad concentrates on a group of incarcerated supervillains rather than the usual focus on superheroes. The first version of the squad debuted in a 1959 DC Comic, and a series was launched in 1987.

Stephen Gilchrist from Lin Pictures will co-produce. Justin Marks (20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Hack/Slash) is penning the screenplay.

Suicide Squad will feature a mix of well-known and unknown villains recruited by the government to accomplish a task deemed too dangerous for superheroes. The historically independent operators must bury their own interpersonal conflicts and agendas to form a cohesive unit to take on a singular task.

AWESOME!

Suicide Squad is a great concept for adaptation. In fact, I long thought it would have made an ace TV series more than anything else, but I certainly won't complain about a movie. Deadshot to the big screen, baby!

And I'll say this now....SCREW Supermax! Let it rot in development hell. THIS is where Amanda Waller belongs.

Agreed, but I say just let Supermax develop into a true Green Arrow movie.

It would have been a GREAT tv show, but I'm happy with this news.

I always wanted to see Deadshot as an assassin hired by the mob to take out Batman, but I'm happy he'll finally make it to screen.

This really shouldn't have been surprising with the watchmen estimates. I have to say though, I prefer later versions of the team to the originals. Owen has so much more potential and personality than Digger but DC never use him.

There's a thread discussing this already. Maybe this could be merged into it.

Can't agree there. Digger's total scumbucket personality is what makes him a keeper.

I just want to say if the change the title to Task Force X, general audience might associate it with the X-Men.

Suicide Squad is a far better title than Task Force X - much more distinctive and attention-grabbing.

I'm guessing that if this film is actually made, it will turn out like "Wanted." In other words, the supervillain thing will be dropped in favor of ordinary looking people in normal clothes who can do some extraordinary things; basically "The Dirty Dozen" with eye-popping special effects.

Why else would they be digging up an obscure comic book that about 17 people still remember? Comics and graphic novels are now being viewed as the latest "untapped resource" for film ideas since Hollywood cant come up with anything on its own. But since using superheroes and supervillains is always a risk (unless it's a character that everyone is familiar with), they feel they can take something like this, butcher it completely, and still turn it into a cash cow without anyone complaining too much.

I may be completely wrong, but something tells me that's the direction that this is headed.

"It's like you were reading my mind..."

I just REALLY REALLY hope this gets made.

this film must be integrated with the greater DC universe of films... cameos from other franchises..

will be nice hopefully things dont fall to pieces like jlm(thank god) and green arrow/super max. I guess like everything else with dc/wb films we will have to see if this actually gets going. I am interested in which villains they decide to use since it could limit guys we cant see then maybe in the film series said villains should be in.

Its so one note though and its been done so much before. Owen has a more meandering character journey and the fact that he volunteers rather than being forced. (in his second stint on the team). I know we'll get Digger though. The only thing he ever did worth a damn is kill Jack Drake.

Could be great if done right showing that comics are not one dimensional tight wearing Holy rusted metal batman kind of movies....but I think they'll screw it up:D

How wrong will it be if Captain Boomerang gets a movie before the Flash:confused::D
