Superman Returns WB, Singer, and the Sequel

What people don't realize yet or maybe some do is that you're right. It's game over for superman as we know him. This is a new game.

It's Jason's story now. Yes superman's in it, but really the bottom line is that we will get a story in some form, some way about Jason and his own little conflict about his true parentage. It will happen in SR2, if there is one. Superman's story, his adventures are done. This is Jason's time.

i recognized that'd be the case since he was announced as the piano chucker back in moriarty's review. Yes oh it was so touching and sweet and nice, what a cute kid, but look to the future for Jason and what we'll be getting and you'll understand what I'm saying. Superman Returns, Or the Notebook: men in tights, as I like to call it, has really added something that will become a very significant part of superman's movie story. Are we ready for that?l

I can't take any more of your 'Jason is the Messiah, and way to the future' talk! lol

A Superman film is Superman's, and no one else claims it. No matter how good the kid was to the film (if that's your kind of view) he isn't a revolution of sorts to the Superman franchise. If they wanna focus completely on the kid, make a crappy spin off for his fans, but keep it the hell away from the SR films.

I liked Jason in SR, but I definitely don't want to see him prancing around in a cape as 'Superboy' or some sidekick. Never ever.

Sure. In my opinion, the inclusion of a son is great for me because it finally places Superman in a linear existence that could show his son grow to maturity and maybe one day take over the mantle of his father. Plus, Jason will be able to whip every kid's a** in school. I can't wait to see a bully pick on him. When that happens...it's piano time.

People think I don't mean it when I say I see great potential for Superman Beyond stories featuring Jason, but It's true, I do. However I'm still more interested in seeing supes have his story told fully before going there and imo Singer didn't think this little 'obstacle' through to its conclusion for superman. He added jason in as a plot device. That's not debatable. It's in every interview. "I wanted to give superman an impossible to overcome obstacle" Not exact quote but close enough. Well now that he's easily overcome it like every character on Days of our Lives usually does, Now what? That's the question.

I don't know why you had to make that bold but ok...

I loved Jason and maybe down the line he can have his own movie. That'd be cool, but unfortunately whenever you introduce something this big, it becomes the story. Superman AND superboy. Batman AND robin. Etc. It's possible to say "oh jason's at bandcamp" while supes return 2's story unfolds, but that'll leave audiences going HAY WTF! where's superboy? He's an interesting subject, way more than weeping, crying, superdick who leaves for 6 years and expects things to be great when he returns. I personally am looking forward to Jason's story more than the continuing adventures of Jesusman myself, but understandably a lot of people feel cheated out of Superman's solo adventures being givent the batman begins treatment thanks to giving supes a super family. Now all I wonder is whether Supes will take Lois back from Cyclops and begin making more superkids. Why not? That's more people to protect earth.

^Jason wont be the focus of the next movie, once again it will be Superman and Lois, Singer added it in to give Superman something he has never dealt with before, not as a replacement for him.

I didn't say he'd replace him but sure I'll go along with that. I mean why the heck does supes say "son becomes the father and the father the son" anyway?

Think what you will, but the fact will be unmistaken by me. This is no longer the story of one superman.

Well we know what project Singer is tackling next....a horror flick.

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- "Superman Returns" director Bryan Singer will make his first true foray into Hollywood's horror genre with the upcoming film, "Trick or Treat."

Moviehole.net said the 40-year-old director, who also headed the suspense film "Apt Pupil," will take on production duties on the Warner Bros. horror film and re-team with "Superman" writer, Michael Daugherty, who is writing the film's screenplay.

Daugherty describes the project as "a horror film with intertwining tales much in the same way that the stories in 'Pulp Fiction' and 'Go' intertwined. There are werewolves, zombies, and various other creatures."

The Web site said fans of the "X-Men" director will be able to see the results of his first attempt at horror when the film is released in October 2007.

Simple: Because it is exactly what Jor-El said to him. Singer's already said it: There will not be any superboy action saving the day stuff in the sequels.

That would simply be hokey.

Nonsense. His piano throw was the best part of returns so I doubt that. And where did singer say that? That'd be silly because SR2 is supposed to have more action, right? Well with two supermen you get twice the super action.

:super: :super:

i thought Singer said he's taking a vacation?

if he's gonna be working on that horror flick to be released a year from now it means he'll be working the rest of this year into the next. and didnt Singer say that if the SR sequel is greenlit he will start pre-production on that late 2007? i hope they're not delaying the SR2 production just so that Singer can take his break.

It could also be that he's not involved with the sequel and WB is looking for someone else in this moment...:yellow:

there are definite Pros and Cons to that ;)

or maybe because SR fell below expectations Singer is making a crowd pleaser that is sure to rake in the big bucks to make up for what SR lacked. also to prove to WB that he can make a brainless moneymaker if the bottomline is the only thing to be concerend about.

What's the deal with these dudes, are they married or something?
hahahahaha.

That's what Singer's life been about, attempts...
Will this one be another flawed attempt?

Maybe Singer will be able to pull off a "Snakes on a plane" kind of movie.
And, just for the record, Snakes on a plane is way more enjoyable than Superman Returns.

Gay joke #9,453.

Anyways, note that he's making a horror film for Warner Brothers. Apparently they're not too shy of hiring the guy that supposedly made a disappointing film.

WB obviously likes Singer.

Well if this film is released in October of 2007 he could technically be filming the Superman Sequel by the beginning of November, which would be late 2007. This is if there is a sequel with him attached.

You mean like Depp and Burton, or Scorcese and Decaprio? It's not odd for a director to go with a team of writers or make multiple movies with a particular actress or actor. :whatever:

the sequel whatever it is, needs better writers and Singer's head out of Donner's bum. seriously that's the only way, as much as I enjoyed Superman Returns... 200+ million dollars and not one bloody punch or major action scene (plane scene was alright, nothing too great), wtf did Singer spend it on? his parties? given all the reports that he'd be partying till wee hours of the morning in Sydney and come into the editing room the next morning all drained of energy.

If not for writing it, then at least for consultation's sake, bring aboard Timm, Dini maybe, and Berkowitz and maybe Riba... they're probably the closest thing to a fan with power in WB, i mean at least they work in some department up there in animation, i'm so hoping they at least come on board to draft and hammer out a story, like a decent fresh story.

Dan Harris and Dougherty are about as bad as Zak Penn and Simon Kinberg... maybe not as hacked, but at least Kinberg and Penn wrote amazing action scenes... what there needs to be is a fusion of these 4 writers together, then we'd have a more or less decent writer... come to think of it, there hasn't been a really kick ass solid decent writer of comic book scripts at all... it's always been a collaboration with the director using multiple writers and then the director himself to really hammer out a decent enough picture... Goyer's draft for begins was great but made much much better by Nolan (Goyer himself is moderately decent, not the best).

Hayter - after the first X-men? where'd he go? Mark Steven Johnson... the less said the better,

Andrew Kevin Walker, the man who's worked on dozens of marvel screenplays and comic scripts yet none produced

Jeff Vintar's Iron Man draft apparantly was decent but not put into production

Millar and Gough - father vs son this father vs son that, bla bla crap

Alvin Sargent - yes great, EMOize peter and make the love story bland, cheesy and ******ed

Mark Frost - go to hell for effing with Fantastic Four

Kinberg and Penn - uber suckage although great with action sequences

Sam Hamm - decent enough i guess but Burton really made the picture his own with his own style and improved far beyond the script apparantly

Tim Manckiewicz (sp?) - great writer imo... the only one who really stood out but again he had some crap in his screenplay like in the original Superman... his Iron Man draft had lots of gold in it but also lots of clunky lead garbage...

That's all the writers I can think of right now, but jeez, there is not ONE... really ONE OUTSTANDING writer who has come up with the ultimate Comic Book Screenplay... M Night Shyamalan did a damn close job with Unbreakable but then he became all up himself recently.

From what I understand the locked away never to seen Fantastic Four draft by Michael France and the Silver Surfer 1998 draft by Andrew Kevin Walker are the two best comic book scripts ever written... sad to see they'll never ever be seen in any form.
