I'd compare the Hippolyta casting to the Jor-El casting. They could have easily cast Jor-El as younger but they went with an older respected actor who when he had scenes with Cavill looked as though he could be his father.
It's just an easier way for the public to digest it.
Thank you. By all logic Jor-El probably should have been 30-35 years old but they cast a 48 (I think) year old Russell Crowe.

Movies are a visual medium that often goes by short hand. There might be a scientist whom looks like Megan Fox in real life but the audience wouldn't believe that Megan Fox was a scientist because she doesn't have the look and feel people associated with that kind of role.

With Wonder Woman we are not talking about a small or even mid-budget film here, we are talking about a huge budget film. These kinds of films usually aren't very subtle because they are for the masses.

Anyway WB and other studios like getting respected older actors for the mother and father roles. That's why I think a 36 year isn't going to play Wonder Woman's mother.

How could you compare the casting without it happening yet? lol

Pike finally had her breakout role in her 30's and probably doesn't want to be playing mothers to 30 year olds right now, even magical eternally youthful mothers. Why take herself out of the game for younger roles to play Gal Gadot's mother? That just doesn't sound like something that her people would let her do.

"Instead of a juicier Marvel or DC role, I'd advise you to play a 30 year old Gal Gadot's mother Ms Pike!" Not a chance in hell is that happening. You are going to have to at least pick a 35 year old actress whom career is on the ropes.

Because we already have an idea of who they are looking at if the Blanchett turning it down is true.

Especially when Pike is perfect age wise to fit into Batmans universe with the age they have given him. I'm sure she'd much rather play a Poison Ivy or Vicki Vale rather than a bit part as WW's mother.

I want CZJ as Hippolyta. She's talented, beautiful, and fits nicely age wise while still looking beautiful.

Even her as a villain in Wonder Woman would be cool. Hell even outside of DC I'd think she could work as Captain Marvel. I don't want to see her playing Wonder Woman's mother. I don't even remotely get that casting choice.

What about Julia Ormond? She was going to be Lara in MOS but pulled out because of working schedule's and Ayelet Zurer replaced her.

That is what kills me about Rosamund's position in Hollywood right now. She worked her ass off for years to breakthrough, and now it feels like everyone treats her like she is "old". It is BS.

That being said, I'd never say no to a movie featuring Eva, Rosamund and Gal. I'd be like, "get out of my head WB".:woot:

They both look young. They don't look related at all. And yet, kids managed to wrap their head around it. It certainly wouldn't be the most bizarre thing in the movie.

It's not as improbable a choice as it's being made out to be. Diana herself is supposedly 100s years old but god forbid Hippolyta be older and look just as young.

Cartoon is a different medium than a movie though.
Besides, like in the comics, age was never a subject in JL animated series, somehow, Bruce Wayne is able to have three Robins and decades of history as Gotham's protector and still be in his early to mid-thirties, Cyborg never ages past his teenage or early twenties years and characters like Batman, Superman, Green Lantern and such are drawn to always look like they're the same age.

On film, these characters age and have history that is limited by their respective ages. Despite being immortal, Hippolyta is much older than Diana and is a mother to her, so even though Hippolyta's immortality gives them an excuse to go for the route of "Byzantium" (where Arterton plays a mother to Ronan, despite being only eight years older in real life), I don't think it would work well for this film. They need someone who gives the impression of very experienced person and they need an established chemistry of mother figure and authoritative queen with her daughter, which would work well only if the age difference between the two is noticeable. In "Byzantium" such a small age difference serves the purpose, as it was made a point that the two could be sisters and it works well with the type of character Arterton plays. Here, the chemistry between the two and type of character Hippolyta is supposed to be calls for the opposite.

Sidenote - as for Blanchett, I am actually glad that she passed the role, if she was indeed offered to play Hippolyta. She gets typecast in such roles way too often, and I'd like to see someone else playing the queen without the thought of previous roles where an actress did the same.

lol

I disliked Pike for the longest for some vague reason but then I just started liking her some years back. She's a really good actress. Suggesting a hot young oscar nominee for such a role is weird. Why isn't Jessica Chastain or the like being suggested as well?

I wasn't a fan of her in Die Another Die... actually, I'm still not a fan. Something about her. Idk if it's her voice or the vacant look in her eyes, but her screen presence rubs me the wrong. It's weird how that happens

But it's not something will stop me from watching a film. It's just some unexplainable thing

I have adored her since I saw her in Die Another Day and the Bond Girl's doc. Her being Keira's big sister in Pride and Prejudice just sealed it. Watched her in everything she did for over a decade, waiting for her to breakout. A lot of less stellar properties and I feared Wrath would be her end at anything meaningful. But in 3 years she had Jack Reacher, The World's End, and Gone Girl. I was so happy to finally see it happen.

Actually, I think I get you. There is something in her screen presence that rubs me off the wrong way, as well. I can't really point my finger on it, though.

Funny how those things work. I love her voice and see a lot in her eyes. I have seen real convince me of true kindness and real evil with those eyes. It is so true that different people perceives things differently.

I loved Pride and Prejudice, loved it. Wrath of the Titans is horrible, nobody except Sam Worthington deserved to be in that film.

I understand how Pike can rub some the wrong way as an actress but I think that she is very good.

I liked the first film, even with all the missed chances. It had a great cast outside of Worthington, and had a some legit effects and action. But the sequel is one of the most bizarre films I have ever seen. It plays out like a cliff notes version of the adventure, and they just decided to kill off the female lead from the first after resurrecting at the end of the first. Poor Gemma. Actually, was probably best for Gemma.

That would make for an interesting thread "actors/actresses that bug us for reasons unknown" :oldrazz:

:lmao:

It's strange to wake up one day and find out that he was starring in 3 major movies. How did that happen

I'll never understand why hollywood unleashed Sam Worthinington upon us. I blame James Cameron.

I like the idea of a woman in her 40s. I would prefer not to go with someone who could be Gal's sister. And yeah I know about the immortal thing, which doesn't keep us from not having a 20 year old zeus :cwink:
