Homecoming Web of friends/supporting characters

I think Flash should be white and not race changed. This is for several reasons:

a) He needs to look like the typical, privileged Hollywood leading man and sports star who gets all the girls and makes everyone jealous.

b) Being the big man on campus and popular kid, he should almost be the school's poster boy.

c) Having the black kid as the bully might not go down as well. And he might not get away with as much as the popular white kid.

d) Having Flash as the arrogant and self-important star athlete who eventually becomes Peter's friend is more of a chalk and cheese situation (and leads to more of an arc) than an ethnic minority whom Peter befriends.

In the movie All Cheerleaders Die, the typical, privileged sports star, was the big man on campus and popular, and was arrogant and self-important jock was played by black actor Tom Williamson; pulled it off really well.

In the movie Dear White People, the typical, privileged, popular, big man on campus, who was an arrogant and self-important student was played by black actor Brandon P. Bell; Also pulled it off really well.

All your points have no merit whatsoever.

Again for me we don't need to have a white guy turned black when we have black characters to use. Same with someone like sha sha to be more ethic and what not. That is why I wouldn't want to see mj gwen or harry for examples to change for those reasons. When we can add more ethnic guys. If we change any one I rather it be like they did with tssm. Liz hispanic, kong asaian. Bring in sha sha for another. Then certain key guys should not be changed. Per there iconic image and what not.

Really if any characters are likely to be changed it is more likely going to be in the villains I feel. As spidey does lack diverse villains. He doesn't have to many ethnic foes.

And again, the issue with that is that it's only okay to race bend the background people because they don't matter, but keep them out of the spotlight. It's underlying racism.

For me what's the point to change someone like flash when we got randy to play eith. Yes things will change and yes we seen marvel change things. But it's really a fine line who should be changed and why they are changed. For me I am sure we will have a few. But they shouldn't judt be oh we need to be more diverse and political correct and what not.

Like I said I wouldn't want mj or gwen or flash changed judt to pull race card. When like I said if we want a diverse cast we can bring in more ethic cast members from the spidry world who haven't been used.

Still in my book if we change some I rather play it like tssm did. Made it feel organic and not forced. And what not.

I want the iconic images too. I feel we haven't even seen a proper MJ or Flash yet. And Harry in the Raimi films was too cool, while in ASM2 he was too weird.

But it's not the race card????

It wouldn't change a thing about who the characters are it would just be progressive. it's 2016. Those characters were created back in 60's you know where whites and black had their own water foundations, schools and public bathrooms ??

The society has changed and it's time the media reflects that.

Careful, you might be branded a SJW soon with that kind of logic.

Social Justice Warrior.

At least that's what I learned from that Iron Fist thread.

Man things goes nuts on race and gender change. Again we don't know what characters or takes will be. And judt going by marvel so far. They haven't changed race to big key guys yet. It's been more on villains and supporting guys. So I be it be case here.

I've only seen him in the horrible DTV movies of Wrong Turn 5 and Sleeping Beauty, and I'm way too behind to try to catch up with Game of Thrones anytime soon, but I don't dislike him in the role. Marvel Studios hasn't really miscast anyone yet, so I'm trusting this casting, I just would have preferred a different direction is all.

I just want a true representation of the diversity of high school this time around. I liked what little extra bits they gave to Flash in TASM, and feel like more can be done for the rest of the characters.

Some characters like Peter, Aunt May and MJ should stay white imo. Their looks are iconic. Bu some characters like Liz, Sally, Ned etc I wouldn't have a problem changing. Harry i'm okay either way, because we've gotten two great adaptions (excluding the Goblin stuff in ASM2). I'd prefer he stay white but I wouldn't fret if he got changed.

Overall, I think it's likely that Marvel will push for more diversity this time around.

Again, repeating a quote (that i think was from Weissman during he working in Spectacular), they aren't that much white kids in NY Preparatory/High Schools, there is much more diversity arround (and heck, that was during 2009/2010, now we are in 2016!) the same case on schools arround here in South America.

And we can have more rounded out characters and diverse thing played out while keeping the looks and takes of characters fans want to see and there true takes from 30 to 50 yrs worth of comics. While also using other ethnic guys to add more to world and developments. Then just going to let's change so and so just for the whole poltical correctness bs.

Like I said earlier there is no need for harry, gwen, mj or flash to change. More so if you want to turn any into African american when we can add randy and glory into cast. Guys like sally, liz, heck even ultimate kong are not as iconic as the bigger guns and that is why if they do change some are guys I be ok with and don't think it would change those guys much. But you start messing with the more iconic ones that is where things get into this whole race and gender debate.

Yep. That's the point right there.

The only thing iconic about MJ is being a redhead and sexually attractive. Nothing else. Any ethnicity can bring that.
Kind of sick of people trying to say she's soooooo iconic. She's not.

And this debate is going to go around and around folks saying x characters race or story plots are not important. Blah blah blah this is going to grt no where pretty fast.

Disagree, that's the way MJ has been portrayed in the last 60+ years, she's the second most important character in the mythos imo, and her red hair, ethnicity and model look are iconic and shouldn't be messed with.

Shame she's 23, though.
