Dead Rock Star's identity assumed by Murdered Man
Express said:
Detectives in Brittany had been told that the 65-year-old man, gunned down in his converted farmhouse, was a retired guitarist called Glenn Miller.

But they have now discovered that the real Miller died of natural causes in Toronto three years ago.

The musician played bass guitar for nearly 30 years for cult Canadian rock band Chilliwack which had its heyday in the 1970s.

I remember Chilliwack. I had one of their songs on a 45. :p

Vendor Admits Serving Probably Delicious Noodles Laced With Opium

q6gxwbcu8tbf9d91k6w3.jpg

A noodle vendor in the Shaanxi province of China has been detained after police discovered that he'd been lacing his noodles with powdered poppy, a move that kept his customers coming back for more.

Police had stopped a vehicle being driven by a 26-year-old man who tested positive for opium. The man was taken into custody for 15 days and was finally released when his family members, who had also tested positive for opium, explained they'd all come from the same noodle vendor.

Via CNN:

The owner said that he bought 4 catty (2kg) of the substance for 600 yuan ($98) in August. He said he added it to his food to make it taste better and to improve his business, the Huashangbao paper reported.

The likelihood of becoming addicted to opium through the powdered poppy over a steaming bowl of noodles is not high, Chinese media reported. The noodle vendor was detained for 10 days for the drug manipulation.

Was going to put it in the stupid thread but damn this is weird and hilarious

Man Beheads Coworker in Oklahoma Factory Attack

aanjlbvlusdai1n39oba.jpg

A man allegedly beheaded a woman following a workplace dispute at a Vaughn Foods processing plant in Moore, Okla., Thursday afternoon, KFOR reports. The man, identified as 30-year-old Alton Alexander Nolan, apparently tried to kill another woman on the premises, but was shot by an off-duty police officer employed by the plant.

Officials told KFOR that there are "no immediate indications of a link to terrorism." According to the Daily Oklahoman, one woman was pronounced dead at the scene, the other was confirmed as having suffered multiple stab wounds, and taken to the hospital in critical condition. Nolan is expected to survive.

Well that is crazy

I know it's gruesome and violent but does every crime have to be pointed out with the same "no links to terrorism" disclaimer?

I assume they felt it necessary because of the recent beheadings from ISIS. I'm sure if they didn't tons of idiots would be spouting off about false flag attacks and yada yada yada

I know it's gruesome and violent but does every crime have to be pointed out with the same "no links to terrorism" disclaimer?

It's sad but I think its a necessity now. They had to put that disclaimer on that suicide attempt near Chicago today that pretty much caused all airports to scramble to redirect or cancel flights. It's the age in which we live now.

I know it's gruesome and violent but does every crime have to be pointed out with the same "no links to terrorism" disclaimer?

No....just the ones that are done in the same way that the terrorists do them.

In this case, maybe. This isn't the first time a crime has been committed where they rule out terrorism even though it should be obvious it never was or else I wouldn't have mentioned how they seemingly disclaim several crimes that clearly aren't terrorist plots. Are people really so gullible or frightened to think that ISIS has infiltrated the United States and begun randomly beheading people at food processing plants? Or anywhere in the country for that matter?

Is it that farfetched? Honestly, I'm not being facetious.

I think so, yes. Since 9/11 made the country **** itself in terror of terrorists (which is a point to them I suppose), there hasn't been an attack by an outside group since. Plenty of attempts allegedly foiled and a handful of home-grown attackers but no group has succeeded since then and before that such an incident wouldn't have warranted a "terrorism not suspected" disclaimer.

iPhone Users Fall for Hoax and Microwave Phones
Business News Network said:
A fake Apple ad making the rounds online claims that iPhone users can charge their devices wirelessly in the microwave.

The ad, which shares many design characteristics with official Apple advertising, describes a new 'Wave' feature in iOS 8, the latest mobile operating system released for Apple's mobile device users.

"You can now Wave-charge your device by placing it within a household microwave for a minute and a half," reads the post. "iOS 8 contains new drivers that interface with your device's radio-baseband allowing it to synchronize with microwave frequencies and use them to recharge your battery."

If that sounds too good to be true, that's because it is. Putting your phone in the microwave could ruin both the phone and the oven within seconds.

Nevertheless, some people have posted on social media about their failed attempts to Wave-charge their phones. Rather than quick-charging their devices, people claimed the results were a burnt phone and a microwave fire.

The prank appears to have originated on the online bulletin board 4chan, where people wrote posts suggesting they had successfully charged their phones in microwaves.

Texas College Softball Bus Hit by Tractor-Trailer in OK, Killing Four

r0g5bux2lezvzgxob6cr.jpg

A bus carrying the North Central Texas College softball team through Oklahoma was struck by a tractor-trailer late Friday night, killing four and injuring fifteen. The tractor-trailer had allegedly crossed over the center median of highway I-35.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Captain Ronnie Hampton spoke with the Oklahoman regarding the accident:

"What we do know is that the semi (truck) was headed north on I-35 when he departed the roadway and entered the southbound lanes," he said.

"When it impacted the bus, it just kept going and went off the side of road. ... We knew we had a two-vehicle accident by what we saw at the scene. ... But it took about an hour before we found the semi," he said.

The team had been returning back to Texas after a scrimmage with Southern Nazarene University. One witness described the destroyed bus as being "opened up like a sardine can."

Hampton told the Oklahoman that both drivers will be tested for drugs and alcohol, saying that the accident "is being investigated like a homicide." North Central Texas College is expected to hold a press conference this morning regarding the accident.

Uber Driver Charged for Bashing a Passenger In the Head With a Hammer

a3xb9lppb9ggfs2i15li.jpg

An Uber driver has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon and battery with serious bodily injury for hitting a passenger in the head with a hammer in Bernal Heights, reports the San Francisco Chronicle.

The 26-year-old driver, Patrick Karajah pled not guilty in San Francisco Superior Court today and was released on $125,000 bail. According to the Chronicle, which broke the news:

Karajah allegedly picked up the victim and his two friends from a bar at about 2 a.m. Tuesday. While driving the two men and one woman to their destination, he got into a dispute with the victim over the route he was taking, according to court documents.

Karajah, who was driving for the basic UberX service, stopped near the intersection of Ellsworth Street and Alemany Boulevard and forced the victim and his friends to get out, according to documents.

Once the alleged victim was out of the vehicle, Karajah struck him on the side of his head with a hammer, and then drove away, authorities said.

The victim suffered severe fractures and trauma to the head.

Yesterday the district attorneys from San Francisco and Los Angeles sent Uber and other ride-sharing companies a legal threat and possible injunction over inadequate background checks for its drivers and false marketing that implies otherwise.

SFWeekly has the company's comment on the charges:

Uber has issued its own press statement, saying it has suspended Karajah's account, as it would for any driver facing serious allegations, per company policy. "We stand ready to assist authorities in any investigation," spokeswoman Eva Behrend says.

Update: During a press conference this afternoon District Attorney George Gascon said that the driver is also facing attempted murder charges, according to ABC7's Cornell Barnard.

Gascon is the San Francisco district attorney who sent the legal notice to Uber this week. SFWeekly says Gascon "has emerged as an outspoken critic of these companies." His office charged UberX driver Daveea Whitmire with misdemeanor battery for allegedly hitting a passenger; Whitmire had prior felony convictions.

I think something like this was bound to happen sooner or later

Walmart Security Guard Shoots Alleged Beer Thief in the Back

rpptf6muam8bbo98frhx.png

A Walmart security guard in Nashville, Tennessee shot a man last night who was allegedly trying to steal a case of beer. According to WSMV, police are now investigating whether or not the guard was "justified in using his weapon." The guard hit the man in the back.

WKRN describes the incident like this:

The security guard was patrolling the parking lot when he confronted the suspect as he was getting into a car.

Shots were fired by the security guard into the car as it began to drive away.

The suspect was shot once in the back. ... A female passenger in the car was unharmed.

The man is in serious but not life-threatening condition at Skyline hospital. WKRN reports he drove himself straight to the hospital.

What at Walmart warrants an armed security guard?

Walmart sells guns so that alone should warrant it although I think they should have proper security in place too if they insist on selling firearms... I just don't know who. Cops are liable to shoot you as well. :whatever:

Brooklyn Postal Worker Hoarded 40,000 Pieces of Undelivered Mail

ks3ezce7rp6p2zmjob0u.jpg

A USPS postal worker who reportedly struggled with alcohol addiction and depression was caught hoarding over 40,000 pieces of undelivered mail that were intended for the Flatbush neighborhood of Brooklyn, N.Y. over the course of ten years.

The postal worker, 67-year-old Joseph Brucato, admitted to stashing the 2,500 pounds worth of mail in his car, his home, and in his locker at work. When postal agents went to remove the mail, it took almost five hours to remove the letters from his apartment.

Via the New York Post:

A postal supervisor became suspicious that Brucato was up to something weird when he noticed his personal car was stuffed with undelivered letters, the complaint said.

Investigators pressed Brucato about the letter cache, and he copped to hoarding more than a ton of mail — a total of 2,500 pounds — over the past decade.

The haul included priority, first-class and regular mail that had once been headed for Brooklyn businesses and residents in Flatbush, according to court papers.

Brucato admitted to hoarding the mail since 2005 and has been suspended with pay until the case is settled.

A spokesperson for the USPS said that the organization will undergo the daunting task of delivering Brucato's stash, so if you've been waiting for that Pottery Barn catalog since 2005, it might still be coming. Don't give up hope.

Well that is bizarre

How does this qualify as weird news? It was just an accident. Tragedies like this happen every minute all over the world.

Well I figured the combo of softball team and tractor trailer qualified it so but some may not agree. Any news I post has to go in one of my threads per the mods so I figured it fit this one the best.

Kidd: I check on the weird news and technology threads often. Thanks for all the posts!
