I thought it'd be cool beans if I started working on character concepts and show the progress as I went along.
Ok I have a team in mind and I have two members in mind but I need a tough guy...
After rolling some ideas around I came up with this.
Alien_concept_1_1.jpg

Not solid on the powers yet and the skin might end up being shiny metallic.

I didn’t like the head so’s I gives it another go, refining the hair too.

So far so good…

Next: The convoluted story, powers, and designs of the male lead.

Taking longer than I thought here is some filler

Crucible

Ok here’s the back-story for now. The character starts our as a villain of sorts seeking revenge when it all gets over the heads of all involved. The characters main power is to accelerate himself and other objects using a limited form of telekinesis. He also has a limited ability to intuitively understand machines he touches. Using this ability and some stolen technology he builds a power suit.
As I said all hell broke loose. And in the grandest anti-hero tradition when it really matters he saves the day, giving his suit to save his enemies teammate and seemingly sacrificing himself to save the earth by accelerating the alien ship and himself through space.
Barely surviving using his powers well beyond their supposed safe levels and gravely wounded after a trip through space without a proper suit. He’s got to fight for his life on an alien world while suffering from the genetic damage that’s affecting his powers and slowly killing him.

Here’s the first suit

Vag?

Here is the lead's bioarmor in all its fanged splendor, a minor spoiler if I ever get the time to produce the comic (here's hoping I flunk out of college!).
Lead_concept_1_2.jpg

It keeps him alive, gives him new powers, lets him steal powers by rewriting his genetics and all that groovy stuff.

Not done but my hand hurts and I think this is closer to what I was going for with a Half-Orc Dwarf.

not to bad, but try working on some detail in there. it would make it "pop" more.

I will, carpal tunnel forced me to quit halfway through.

Sure, I'm just trying to mostly post finished work from now on.
I really appreciate your interest though so I'll see what I can get done in the next day or so.

I like this guy/gal. its got a nice look. your dessigns are pretty interesting.

so far the "bat-vag" as someone unfortunately called it is the strongest design imo. I love the concepts for the bio-tech weapons/suits/accessories, too. For your characters, the anatomy is under-developed... the heads are small and proportions off in some of your drawings, which distracts me. The ghoulish dame in your last post is solid awesome though.

How are you doing with backgrounds and locations? I'm trying to do a comic myself, and I'm finding this to be the most time-consuming (and least talked about) part of comic-drawing...

The heads aren't small, they have giant bodies...
I treat backgrounds like a character, whether or not you like them or not is subjective, to date nobody likes my pictures for what I think are the best points, but I guess that's why it's interesting to hear from other people.
The most important part in my opinion is making sure your characters and background are in the same space and interact with each other so you don't get that blue screen effect and they don't look like they're floating. If you don't love the background you're probably better off not drawing one in the first place.

Well, large bodies can work. I've seen it in comics before, sometimes I hardly notice when it's fully inked and colored. I guess it's just not my cup of tea.

Yeah, I notice the same sort of feedback pattern with my drawings too... the ones I'm really proud of and feel a "kinship" with no one cares about, but the ones that I don't have any investment in everyone loves. It's kind of discouraging. But if you're going to be selling something to the public, it might as well be something they enjoy.

Good advice about backgrounds... never thought about it like that before. Are you going to be putting up pages sometime?
