Riverdale Welcome to Riverdale: General Discussion

That is amazing news!! Riverdale is easily my favorite show currently on tv! Its just so enjoyable!

While I really want them to bring in Sabrina, I'm not sure how to do a more grounded take on witchcraft that won't be at odds with the show.

They've said their take on Sabrina will be more Rosemary's Baby than the original show. Whether that means the supernatural elements will be implied like Rosemary's Baby or not is unknown yet. But they've said that the villain of Season 2 is a well known Archie character it's probably Sabrina.

woohoo! :woot::up:

maybe its gonna be a nod to more Twin Peaks and X-Files, where its more paranormal-y than magic-y. heck they could even borrow some Star Wars elements the way Jedi and Sith do their Force abilities with Sabrina, because i also cant see this show having Sabrina swish things around with a wand.

Could this Riverdale fan theory about zombies come true?
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: What do you say to that theory that Riverdale might do Afterlife with Archie?

ROBERTO AGUIRRE-SACASA: Well, I can tell you a few things: Obviously before I worked on Riverdale, my passion project was Afterlife with Archie. When we were originally talking about doing a show about the Archie comic characters, one of the takes we debated pitching was Afterlife with Archie and it being not a descendant of Dawson’s Creek as Riverdale is, but a descendant of Buffy. That was an idea that everyone was passionate about. Ultimately we ended up going for Riverdale and starting with a more grounded, less supernatural version of that because we thought we could always go there, but if we started there, it would be hard to take that away. So start a little more grounded and normal, and then introduce something supernatural as opposed to, once you’re supernatural, it’s going to be hard to go back to non-supernatural, so that was kind of the thinking behind that.
In my mind, the mythology is this: Riverdale is a non-magical grounded town with weird stuff happening. Then there’s Sweetwater River, where Jason died, and on the other side of that river is Greendale, where Sabrina and the witches traditionally live. On one side of the river, there’s no magic, there’s no supernatural — that’s where Riverdale is. And on the other side of the mythic river, which is sort of like the River Styx, there’s magic and witches and dark Lovecraftian horrors.
Can you say whether Sabrina is going to appear this season?

I feel like I can say two things: One is, we are constantly talking about Sabrina and how to update her character and introduce her to the TV audiences, whether it’s part of the Riverdale universe or it’s alongside the Riverdale universe. Hopefully sooner rather than later, there will be something to do with Sabrina. And the other thing I will say is that in the finale there is an appearance of a character from the Archie mythology that has a darker origin and backstory.
If and when you guys do decide to do Afterlife with Archie, would you put a twist on it since so many fans have expectations from the comics?

Yeah, for sure. There’s already an amazing zombie show on TV, a couple of amazing zombie shows — probably actually three or four. There are a lot of zombie shows, so if we did go there, I think we’d more lean into the Lovecraftian horrors or it would be more like the Evil Dead zombies rather than the Night of the Living Dead zombies, if that makes sense. Night of the Living Dead right into Walking Dead, it seems like they’re biological warfare or they came from science or extra-terrestrial, whereas the Evil Dead zombies are very much about the Book of the Dead and the Necronomicon and demons possessing the bodies and stuff. That’s where I gravitate toward anyway. I’m more horror than sci-fi.

Well KJ did let it slip way back when that Sabrina was supposed to appear in the finale...

Good Golly Miss Molly!

Figurestoycompany or Funko should do a line of retro style figures, based on the likeness of the new TV series.

I don't see anybody reallly upset that Jughead isn't asexual and that he's with Betty. Maybe it's because him and Betty are cute together and that it makes sense in the context of the show. I love it.

I love them together

Those are great!
And they are great.
I want to vote for Lili Reinhardt as Barbara Gordon and Camila Mendes as Helena Bertinelli in Batgirl and Gotham City Sirens.

I love both, also the amazing red-head Madelaine Petsch that should be an amazing Poison Ivy or even Batwoman (Kathy Kane)

is there anyone from the supporting cast not yet seen on-screen yet?

how are the personalities of Josie & the pussycats portrayed?

Midge, Nancy, Hiram, and Sabrina are the only ones I can think of who haven't appeared on screen yet. Hiram's presence is definitely felt though, Midge is mentioned and so is Greendale.

Josie is pretty much the same but more driven; she disappears in the middle of the season though. Valerie is [BLACKOUT]basically just Archie's love interest. [/BLACKOUT]. Melody is just there.

Riverdale Recasting Reggie for Season 2
“We love what Ross did with the role of Reggie [this season], but because of his commitments to other projects, we couldn’t use him nearly as much as we would have liked,” series creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said in a statement to TVLine. “[Next season], we want more Reggie on our show — he’s Archie’s rival! — and because Ross is unavailable to come back to Riverdale, we’re looking for a new Reggie. Those are big shoes to fill, but we’re confident we can find an actor who is as funny and sexy as Ross. And of course we all wish Ross the best.
I like the actor, but I do hope they re-conceive the character to be nastier, like the comic character, rather than the jock stereotype they've gone with thus far. Aside from being a dick to Jughead, he really hasn't been that bad.

I'm glad they are recasting rather than cutting Reggie and replace him with Chuck like they seemed to have done.

i am so sad Ross is leaving :( i was really looking forward to seeing more of his work as Reggie but looks like that 13 Reasons really took off. i understand the career decision for prioritizing that but still disappointed though, specially of what little we saw of his Reggie performance promised to have been really awesome in future seasons.

so any suggestions who can be our new Reggie Mantle? i was thinking they could try to get Ki Hong Lee (Minho from the Maze Runner movies). he's not as tall as Ross but he can do the intimidating bully down pat. but a loveable jerk, which is how Reggie is in the comics.

I love the Betty/Jughead relationship.

Also, Jughead :ilv:
