September 15th was the begining of National Hispanic Heritage Month.
It goes until October 15th (weird "month"), so it's not too late to give it up for La Raza.
I love Mexicans. I don't like illegal immigrants, well, I like the ones who can speak English okay.
The cleaning girls here, I hate how they don't even bother to learn "one, two, three, four,...", etc.
But we always end up having a good laugh while we're miming what we're trying to say to eachother.
Of course I think they're talking s*** about me on the elevator ride up, till I get to "know" 'em. One time I swore a girl said "blah blah blah blah MARICONE", and I said, I thought you just called me a maricone, and we laughed.
This one was pretty cute and got a painfully obvious crush on me
( Do you know any Mexican cleaning ladies that start wearing skin tight black bell bottoms w/ thong and huge hoop earings and bare midriff shirts with faux rhinestone designs on 'em.....when they go to clean condos?
), so she started learning some words.
(sometimes they have Asian chicks on the cover, but, very nice...)
I saw this documentary about these "Corridos" they have in Mexico, which are awesome 'cause they're musically speaking, these really cheezy polka-like folk songs, but nowadays the lyrics are often about gang-banging and drug running....so you have this harmless, happy little polka tune, and the guy's singing stuff like,
"I'm the panther...I have the fastest boat in my village.
I'm the panther...no gringo can hope to catch me.
I lived in poverty.
I will die painfully.
Probably in jail.
But until that day, I bring kilo after kilo of meth and weed to the gringos.
They are happy my boat is so fast."
and they have little shrines to Mary, Jesus and then a famous gangster/drug runner who used to sing corridos but was shot in retaliation for shooting the guy that raped his sister, and they pray to all 3.
You can't generalize, but culturally speaking, I like how down-to-Earth they seem to be, like, I can not f***ing stand hoighty-toighty, uptight FRENCH people.
So they're going to be doing some traditional dances from various states of Mexico outside my work this afternoon which is cool. I dig that Mariachi kind of stuff......and the chicks in the dresses like:
Also, right after Japanese, Spanish is my favorite language. I got straight A's in Spanish. Way sexier language than French or Yiddish. Way.
So, Go Hispanic People!
