My answers are pretty direct.

I came here to flame the casting of Topher Grace as Venom since Eddie Brock was, and still is, my favorite Marvel character. 12 years later, I still uphold my duties as the official Blowpher Basher of the Hype.

What keeps me here is an enthusiasm for comics that has lasted for nearly 40 years. Comics and their related properties never lose their shine for me.

I was lurking since 1998 or so, but an old poster by the name of Lord Snipe recommended I actually sign up to this place. Great group of people back then, Snipe, Batman's Iron Fist, Clerk, Motown Marvel, Joker and El Payaso (The wrong Joker titled poster is still around that's for damn sure).

I stick around because too many people would be better off if I did go.

thank you to everyone who has responded so far. I've really enjoyed reading these stories about how all of you have come to find a home of sorts here.
I'd like to give a huge shoutout to Anita18 for her diligence with the Batman Viral Campaign. It obviously was a huge hit with the public, and the reason for quite a few members joining here, and she was an integral part of it

I first found the Hype around late 2002-2003 that I can remember for sure, but it's quite possible that I was reading here as early as 2000-2001. When I was little, I was big into the comics and the X-Men cartoon of the 1990's and used to watch it with my nephews. We would pretend to be x-men, spend days drawing them and creating our own stories and I remember saving up $1.25 to buy comics up at the convenience store up the road at my house. i remember watching F4, and Spider-Man cartoons too, naybe even an Iron Man one? And I of course watched Batman: The Animated Series.
As I got older, I kinda forgot about them, and besides, girls weren't supposed to be into that sort of thing. It wasn't cool
Then one day I was was about 14-15 i think, i was browsing a flea market with my Dad who was off buying power tools and I was on my own. A guy was selling a bunch of comics really cheap and I bought a ton. He even recommended titles to me like X-Factor, X-Force, Deadpool, Excalibur, Cable, Generation X! I hadn't even known there were off-shoot titles from the X-Men. I read them all, and then pretty much every 2 weeks, I was back buying more.

We finally got the internet in my house sometime in the early 2000's and I decided to look up X-Men stuff again. There were tons of fansites and the like. Geocities, Angelfire, remember those? lol. That's also where I learned about fanfiction and how some people had taken to writing their own stories for characters. I know i've read 100's of them in my life lol.
But one day while browsing, I came across a link for the Hype and thought it was awesome. It was almost like a chatroom with tons of topics and tons of people talking about comics. I didn't know much about forums or how they worked and I lurked a LOOOOONG time before joining on my own.

And now, here I am.

Around 2007, I used to check the main page daily for news regarding The Dark Knight. Eventually, I drifted into the forums to read updates on the ARG and stuff, if I remember right. I created an account named <Starscream>, but posted like one time in 2 years. In 2009, another user PMed me, thinking I was someone he knew from another forum. He was told to recognize this person by the name <Starscream>. It wasn't me, but that kinda soured me on the name. I didn't know you could change your name, so I created a second account (oh no) named James T. Kirk. That's this account. The name went James T. Kirk > SlackBrian > Perfect Cell. Wee, history! And I've been sporadically posting ever since.

Everyone was geeking out with happiness. Those were the days. I miss a lot of the old school posters from the early years who have vanished over time.

What keeps me here is continued interest in superhero stuff, especially Batman and Spider-Man. There's some great people here, and great discussions to be had. Plus a lot of laughs.
