could get away with wearing tights onscreen? so far, only Superman has pulled this off. (I started this thread b/c I have one on the Marvel boards).
And please don't say Batman. That ship has sailed. I'm thinking more towards characters who have yet to see Hollywood.
I say Flash, Green Lantern & maybe Black Lightning.

Green Lantern yes. good call.
Nightwing... acrobat, going to need a suit that allows him to move.
Martian Manhunter. Going mostly naked is fine for Dr. Manhattan, but I want to see J'ohn wearing a bit more.
Red Tornado. he's robot he can wear whatever he wants
Huntress do I need to elaborate?
Harley Qinn (I know she is a villain, but she is so cute)
Aquaman swimming in armor? more like sinking
and Flash(again going to need to move) are the only other ones that come to mind at the moment.

For the non spandex crew here are a few that I think could get away with it.
Azrael
Mr. Terrific
Lobo
cyborg
green arrow ( i would be fine with the smallville costume. believe it or not)

Why would anyone want to see that tights retro look with the draws on the outside. I think Superman "pulled it off" in the old movies 1978-1987, but not with Super Returns.

apples to oranges I guess. I personally don't want to see everyone armored and leather clad.
That almost sounds sketchier than spandex.

Don't defend picking villains; I said characters.
I'd see Nightwing in something armored just b/c of his history w/Batman.

Green Lantern yes. good call. - The costume's material should be similar to Routh's costume in SR
Nightwing... acrobat, going to need a suit that allows him to move. - True but it must be spandex which looks very durable as well as flexible
Martian Manhunter. Going mostly naked is fine for Dr. Manhattan, but I want to see J'ohn wearing a bit more. - His costume was always dorky. Spandex could work but it might make the audience laugh at him even if they make a CGI/make-up which is excellent
Red Tornado. he's robot he can wear whatever he wants - not if he looks silly wearing it
Huntress do I need to elaborate? - Nah, she needs something like leather, same with Black Widow
Harley Qinn (I know she is a villain, but she is so cute) - I can this working
Aquaman swimming in armor? more like sinking - Aquaman isn't a normal person. An armor's weight could not slow him down in the water at all.
and Flash(again going to need to move) are the only other ones that come to mind at the moment. - Or they could use the fabrics Spider-man had or similar variant.

Azrael - Should be like a suit of armor
Mr. Terrific - possible but his costume could very easily be adapted with other materials without the risk of looking silly in live action
Lobo - not sure

Spandex needs to avoided unless the film makers can do a very, very good job translating the character with them.

Unless they're making comedies the characters will need to look like people the audience could believe are serious. Wearing spandex would undermine that very easily.

Spandex should be avoided at all cost.

So are you saying that Superman should wear rubber?

I think Green Lanterns costumes can play around with other fabrics and styles.

Flash is a definite.

Flash definitely needs the classic red suit. Wonder Woman and Plastic Man also require their comic book appearances.

GL, J'onn, Ollie, not so much.

flash would need something streamlined though. could you see him trying to run in the batman begins costume, or the niteowl costume?

I always saw Flash wearing something similar to a speedskater with a little more durablility for friction.

I think The Flash should use the Spider-Man or Fantastic Four type suit

WW needs a costume that looks very impressive in live action, her swimsuit is not going to look good there. Always thought it would be like her armor being that she is a warrior.

They should update it similar to Nolan's Batman.

A tunic like in the movie Troy or Gladiator is an easy fix or WW

I think a little more is required than just adding a tunic.

like what? Tunic might have been wrong word. i dont really know what to call it. But I find it hard to believe that taking what Brad Pitt wore in Troy and fashioning it for a woman and Wondys colors isnt enough

I forget who did it and i dont want to post it without the artists permission but ibelieve someone made a great manip of this exact style costume under the Fan Art section in the DC redesign thread

Not sure what they're called, but I think your talking about a battle skirt (as I call them anyway). Something like this (modified of course to be more inline with the comic design).

jmc:

Yeah, all they need is a good costume designer to make WW look good. Spandex would make her look like a joke.

I believe Flash, Captain Marvel and Aquaman would all look great in the thicker, Spiderman/Superman Returns material. Since they have superpowers to defend themselves, I think the audience will accept that look. Green Lantern could honestly go a few different ways, but the aforementioned material could also work for him. I also think the Atom could also go that route, explaining it in the same way as the Fantastic Four films did.

i think its called a hauberk.

I think Plastic man and Ambush bug could pull it off.

I think if they ever brought the Golden Age characters. That's the kind of the material that was around back then and the only people who dressed up in costumes were circus preformers; plus its not like any of them planned on being heroes for the rest of their lives they just didn't want to be recognized.

Look at how they pulled it off for the Watchmen film:

Aquaman should wear tights like in smallville. Flash and GL could pull off tights too as long as they had raised insignias.
